Well done, I can definitely tell you put lots of time into this and I can relate to finding next to no info on African weapons. That's why often times I just kinda add a few interesting tidbits here and there.
Thanks! Yeah weapons are for sure a difficult art to research. I believe it is partly due to the fact that they are not widely covered in art books and it also seems like most of the few comprehensive weapon books are written in French. Which again I do have Google translate available but often times the Google book preview is incredibly limited.
I'm happy you liked the line. I was a little worried about how people would react to that. I'm glad you appreciate me being frank about the sword. I'm only human, I can't know everything. Thanks for commenting 😄
Thanks my friend this video was a lot of work but definitely worth it. Plus, I've already laid the groundwork for a lot of the future sword videos so hopefully those ones will be a bit easier to make. For tomorrow though I'm gonna do what I always do after a video upload. Take a break lol maybe I'll even get me a senzu bean to recharge :D
Indeed. I have some other videos in this series as well. Although it's been a while since my last sword video, I am committed to doing more eventually.
Yeah its amazing how much storytelling and extra details fans can see just by analyzing the game worlds and stuff within in Zelda games. Personally my favorite is Majora's Mask. I don't think they need to do another Termina adventure but I would like them to try another Zelda game like Majora that has masks as a core element.
The word 'vagina' is actually Latin for 'sheath' 'hull' and 'husk', while 'vaginae' means female genitalia . This makes it more interesting that Swedish words are equal to this same subject. Great video on a topic that deserves greater discussion.
Thanks, V for Vendetta is one of my favorite graphic novels and movies. I was hoping to publish this video on the 5th of November but I still had a lot more work to do at that point.
Wow so much detail I have a Pinterest collection with images of some of these swords. Indeed its hard to categorise and find indepth sources on them as there is so little information but, wow you did alot of research most of this I had no clue about. Keep up the good work can't wait for the upcoming episodes. Seriously you deserve alot more subscribers. (Won't be able to reply unfortunately youtube has shadow banned my replies to comments under threads for some reason.)
Good to see you again Admire. Yeah I knew you would be familiar with some of these swords. I'm glad I was able share some info you hadn't heard before. Thats an odd situation UA-cam has put you in. Unfortunately, UA-cam does a lot of weird crap that makes no sense. Lately they stopped notifying me about new comments, now I have to manually check when new comments come in.
lol Thanks! As for why you only found me today, its probably just because the UA-cam algorithm doesn't do a good job of recommending smaller channels. Anyway, I'm glad you found me!
One of my favorite West African swords also shares the general leaf shape (though its distinct in a lot of ways too) but it'll be a long time before we get to that one since I'm focused on Central Africa for now.
The Baule are one of my favorite cultures so no worries whenever I get around to West African swords, I'll be sure to talk about them. If they're one of your favorites too, I recommend the book called Baule: African Art Western Eyes by Susan Mullin Vogel. I can't recall if the book delves into swords though, its more about sculptures and masks and culture in general.
@@redspiritmask in my case is more personal because one of my pals is Baoule descendant, despite him being completely ignorant of that part of his heritage.
You may want to look at Kane Shen ,he custom ordered two african swords ,one like you have shown, one a Konda, since they are reproductions and not originals they are more practical to usage and testing,so they can give precious insight.
It depends on whether "it is never wrong to call a sword a knife" etc. The construction is typically different in most places/periods. So much so that it was a basis on whether or not a knife maker was allowed to make/sell his a certain style blade since it was regulated by guilds. Whether it had a peened pommel vs slab handle construction for example.
It’s interesting how these artifacts that should be in Africa, are all in Europe, I just wonder how this happened and why they don’t just return them now... 😒

That was so well researched yet down to earth.
"I don't know SHIT about this sword."
Best line in a documentary EVER!

Standing Ovation for blunt honesty. 👏👏👏👏
Seriously YOU went over 9000 with this upload!
Outstanding Dude!!!
From martial arts to swords Africa is highly forced kept in UNDERratedness

Interesting video. Rarely found information

Great video
I can't wait for the next video you do. UK
Thanks Jenjen, the next video will probably be a smaller video but another sword video will come in time.
Aweeee snap, subscribed! First the Zelda videos, now this, straight fire 🔥🔥🔥
Nice! Always good to meet fellow Zelda fan. :D
The world building in Zelda is immense, learning about the African inspired weapons just furthered the love!

I love the V for vendetta homeage.

this is amazing! look foward to the next parts.
Thank you! The next one will probably be focused on the Republic of Congo.
Aye, Mitsogo descendant over here!

Hell Year !!!
Glad you enjoy the video!
HOLY ALLITERATION BATMAN!!! Also...why am I only find this channel today!?

@@redspiritmask meant to say "finding." Also, if not for a Facebook group, I wouldn't have!"
I like the leaf blade and Fa blade.

It's very telling that in a video about African art and artifacts, you have to translate so many random European languages.
Very sad
Looking forward to see what this becomes... and more alliteration.
Glad you enjoyed the alliteration its been a long time since I've written anything like that.
If you need pointers for Ivory Coast look up the swords of the Baoule people.

V would be very proud of that intro lol.
Thanks! I used to write poems every now and then in high school and college so it was nice to revisit that old writing style.
❤

I finally got some time to see it, good video. Thanks for sharing.

Can you talk of swords from congo
Yes, I will eventually make videos about both the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
It’s interesting how these artifacts that should be in Africa, are all in Europe, I just wonder how this happened and why they don’t just return them now... 😒
