  • Hey Everyone!
    I picked up this awesome little Echo PB-260i backpack leaf blower not to long ago... seemed to be in great shape, but it wouldn’t start!
    It had been sitting for a while so naturally I thought it was a carb issue, as the fuel diaphragms dry up overtime, especially if improperly stored or used with ethanol added fuel.
    Watch as I go step by step in this how-to bring this blower back to life!!!
    Cheers!
    -Dave

    Hey Dave,
    I’m just a retired guy doing this for a hobby. I haven’t had much luck with 2 stroke carb kits. Maybe it’s because I don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner yet. From a labour perspective I find it easier to just replace the carb. However I also prefer to play it safe and use OEM parts vs playing Chinese roulette. So it can come at a price. I recently had to pay $65 Canadian for a Stihl carb.
    Cheers Bud

      Ahh yes, I have experienced that game of roulette before too. I too prefer playing it safe with OEM but often that means paying more than the unit is worth... just for a carb!

    Dave’s Small Engine you should use 91 octane premium unleaded non ethanol gas. You can get it from Stewart’s gas station it cost little bit more money but it’s worth it. Ethanol damage the carburetor kit

    Hi Dave. What a great video. I do have a question about the ultrasonic cleaner though. I am wondering, how often should you change the degrease solution and also, how do you discard it? Does it get thrown in the trash or can you take it somewhere where it will get recycled? I dont know anything about ultrasonic cleaners but I would like to try it out if I need to take apart my lawnmower or motor scythe.

    • @DavesSmallEngines
      @DavesSmallEngines  3 роки тому

      Hi Guiya! I actually use heavy duty Simple Green mixed with water... It is non corrosive and biodegradeable, so I pour it down the drain. I change it whenever it gets murky or leaves behind dirt on parts. Usually about 10-20 carb cleans depending on the level of dirt.
      Go for it!

    When you feed an engine external fuel , it known as PRIME for a Good time . this test show you that compression is good , trimming is good , Ignition is good in 10 second . this can be done through the carb as well . Should be the first test done before anything else . Saves time .

    Nice. But for an additional ten dollars or so, you could just order a complete carb and swap it out much more conveniently it would seem to me, especially if you're not the second coming of Thomas Edison, like me. I do admire your skill. Liked your vid.

    pro tip: if you are trying to thread a spark plug in through a tight housing try pushing a rubber hose to the porcelain part of the plug. Way easier to thread in and prevents cross threading.

    Dave:
    What's a good place to get those carb kits (other than Donny LOL).
    A place that would likely have one or can get one for all those Walbro carbs ?
    I've fixed a couple and luckily they didn't need parts. Perhaps a dealer in the Toronto area.

    Yep, she's a no starter. I didn't remember that you had an ultrasonic cleaner, I still need to get one of those, but its a low priority item for me. Sounds like Donyboy saved the day once again ha? You realize that your super lucky being so close to him, most have to struggle getting parts these days. And with Briggs & Stratton in its current state of affairs, I'm lucky to get any parts for even my equipment. Sad to see it needed a full carb job, but you got it done, and now she's running real good. I'm surprised the Echo is idling so smoothly, normally they only do that if they are a 4-cycle like my Honda trimmer.

    I have an old echo pb 200, its pretty withered but it will fire if you spray ether in it. i know the problem is the carb because its completely withered and the metering diaphragm is definitely brittle, and the rest if it is pretty much clogged up with stale gas. is it worth trying to clean the carb and replace the metering diaphragm or is it better to just replace the carb outright? and if so, can you post a link to where i can order a new carb for this model? also being that the engine is 21.2cc, could I use a carb from a different unit that uses the same engine, like an srm-225?

    • @DavesSmallEngines
      @DavesSmallEngines  3 роки тому +1

      Be careful spraying ether - it lacks the necessary oil lubricant for a 2 stroke engine. I have a spray bottle with mixed gas for this very purpose.
      I’d try to clean the carb and replace the kit. It will cost a fraction of a new carb.
      In my experience, most of the carbs are a similar size and there is plenty of crossover.
      If I were you, I’d do some web searching on eBay, Amazon etc for your specific blower. I just did a quick search “pb200 blower carb” and a lot of aftermarket carbs as well as carb kits popped up.
      I ALWAYS prefer staying with a cleaned OEM carb vs an aftermarket unit. The quality is much better, but they do fail as well eventually.
      Let me know how it goes!

    Working on one can't get spark. Installed two new coils, two new spark plugs, bypassed the switch, sprayed starting fluid directly into the carburetor & no start. It will throw ' one ' random spark from time to time. I can't figure it out.
