      Thank you so much. My best friend, the same one who suggested I start a channel, also suggested the longer format videos. It’s weird making videos that hi myself don’t want to watch , but if others enjoy them, I’ll make them.

    I like the longer format videos like this one. Follow the repair process from beginning to end.
    It would have been nice to hear the problem (4 stroking) before the repair and the sound after you fixed it though.

      @@35andRetired The reason I mention letting us hear the sounds is that I have this exact blower. It runs and blows OK but in my mind it doesn't seem to blow as hard as it did when new about 5 years ago.

      You can also clean the unit, and loss of vacuum could also cause loss of power

      Yes adjusting screws is okay, but it’s best to first understand why you have to adjust the screws if a part of becoming wore out it’s best to replace, and with echo it’s best to go with oem on most things

    Man, if someone in my area was this amazing at fixing small engines for $80 I would be all over it. But most charge $150 or more and adjusting the carb screws gets the blower running well enough to keep it going until it dies (usually will get 10 years on residential use before other parts start breaking off). And for only $375 for a brand new one, that makes the most sense.

    Common mistake with the Echo backpack 500 and 580 is misconception that the carb is always the problem and the reason for throttle bogging and running out of fuel. It usually is NOT. When it bogs or shuts off immediately check the primer bulb. If dry...it is always the fuel inlet line and fuel filter. Replace both at the same time and install a few tiny wire ties at the junctions and problem solved.

    Outstanding explanation. I’ll never understand how people take these carburetors apart with a drill. I tried that once and the thing flew out of my hand and across the garage. I guess it takes practice like everything else.

    Straight larger OD fuel port is return to tank. Curved smaller OD fuel port is fuel intake line from tank.

    Mine just stopped suddenly and won't start. Carburetor, air filter looks good. Any suggestions?

    • @35andRetired
      @35andRetired  2 місяці тому

      The first step is to remove the air filter and spray a small amount of carb cleaner, 2-stroke fuel, or starter fluid into the throat of the carb (do this with the trigger at WOT so the mixture gets passed the carb). If the engine "coughs" or sounds MORE like it wants to fire or actually fires for a split second or two, then you know the compression and ignition of the engine is fine and it is fuel related. If it doesn't try to start at all, slowly increase the amount of fuel you are spraying (since you might not be spraying enough) and see if that works. If still nothing, remove the spark plug and with a flashlight look carefully to see if there are any scratches inside of the cylinder all. Horizontal scratches are normal but vertical scratches are not.

    Great video. Curious if you could diagnose my same blower. Quick background, the blower is 6 years old, only used on smaller residential yard, and I always run fresh fuel and oil mix and drain the carb every winter. Until last week, it ran perfect. All of a sudden, when running wide open throttle it would almost stall out. Idle is perfect and quarter throttle is good too. I checked the fuel and oil filter and both are perfect.

    • @35andRetired
      @35andRetired  Місяць тому

      Only at WOT? That sounds like a plugged fuel filter or lines (filter is way more likely than lines). Try removing the fuel line/filter and inspecting, removing, or replacing the fuel filter. Have you messed with the carb adjustment screws yet? If not, try loosening the screw which is closer to the air filter and further from the engine. Any change in behavior?

    • @logdon17
      @logdon17 Місяць тому

      @@35andRetired Thanks for the reply, filter is clean and even ran Sea Foam and replaced the spark plug but same issue. I'd try and adjust the carb screw but have no luck getting the tool to do that since Echo uses a very strange tip (something called Micro D tip, not easily found due to EPA rules apparently).

    Hey, how are you? I’m having a problem with my echo Backpack Blower. I can’t get full power out of the handle. I put a new carburetor on it. I had to put a new spark respirator and I still not getting is there anyway you can help me out and tell me what you think it may be.

    • @35andRetired
      @35andRetired  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi, well...it could still be several things. Here is my suggestion:
      1. Remove fuel filter and see if condition changes
      2. Did you tune the carb? If not, you will need to make adjustments to the high speed screw. I have a video on this topic on my channel but youtube is full of plenty of other videos that can help you through that also.
      3. Spark respirator? I assume you mean the arrestor in the muffler, right? If so, good.
      4. With the air filter removed and the engine at WOT and the problem happening, try to spray a little carb cleaner into the carb throat. If it increases the RPM, you know you have a lean condition not getting enough fuel.

    • @brucetirado5042
      @brucetirado5042 2 місяці тому

      Yeah, everything’s brand new brand new carburetor. I cleaned out the muffler brand new carburetor every like everything you said it just can’t get no power.

    • @brucetirado5042
      @brucetirado5042 2 місяці тому

      Oh actually, I change the air filter and as I was trying to idle it up, I had a lot of oil on the air filter brand new air filter and now it’s just all covered in oil. What would that be from?

    • @35andRetired
      @35andRetired  2 місяці тому

      @@brucetirado5042 Well, that is an important observation. There could be a lot of oil/gas in the crankcase (the area underneath the piston). Sometimes this happens due to an issue (which you might have fixed already with the new carb) but needs to be cleared out. I would recommend removing the spark plug, putting the machine upside down so the spark plug hole is facing straight down and pulling the starter cord many times. If gas/oil is pouring out of there, you are on the right path. In theory, nothing should come out at all. If fluid is coming out, keep doing that until it is dry as a bone, then reinstall the spark plug and see how it fires up and runs. Sometimes a bad carb can dump fuel/oil into the engine and flood it so bad that the crankcase is full and needs a lot of pulls to be cleared out.
