Simon is absolutely right about healthcare. I am a health care professional and former leader. I left leadership because of the reasons Simon talks about. The difference starts at the top who then collaborates mid level (nurses, doctors, registration, call center, etc.) for the outcome of quality patient care.
This is one great interview. Thank you for sharing. The thing with the U.S. military is that they are stacked deep and have been doing it since the Civil War. You can't just walk out on the job if you want. Work train work train and repeat is a way of life NWakava
What a great interview and discussion! Thank you! It also feels great to be among the leaders - the first ones who watched this video and being among the first people to leave comment /in fact # 1 after first ten ;)
Great conversation Simon! That's a great point about misstrust. I've seen that situation in the Hospitals also. And do you know what is interesting? Those hospitals have great values, and amazing personnel, at the same time their mission, vision, and values can be seen in every single office and hallway. The problem is - they didn't live those stated values. When I saw that situation I decided to make a culture assessment in one of the hospitals. After we had a conversation with the HR Director of that hospital she was really curious about my assessment. The challenge I've realized they had wasn't people or values but is exactly what you have discussed, it was a broken leadership structure plus their willingness to change based on their values.
I think that many times leaders have teams that work well in their own individual teams, but what's missing is the synergy to truly work towards the mission vision, and values which takes the entire organization working together.
I see two things in Simon he is a great motivator wants people to do well inspires them to become better version of themselves achieve greater things and that is a great quality a leader can have but I also feel like he lacks the aspect of understanding the underprivileged population or in simple terms the “poor” if your poor and your life circumstances don’t allow you to do things you want to do Simon would say it is up to you and maybe because he never lead a poor life. That’s my assumption if I didn’t lead a difficult life I probably wouldn’t know it myself. But after the war we became one of these poor folks when we used to have our personal chauffeur.
He doesn’t lack on understanding of underprivileged or poor populations! It’s you who lacks the knowledge and understanding of how powerful your mind works it’s you who always tells yourself that you’re underprivileged or you don’t get chance of living life and guess what you get that and that’s where you’re living where there’s lack not abundance! You’re living in a blaming society where you criticise not look for opportunities in any situation it doesn’t matter who you’re or what you’ve you can get be wherever you want to be but guess what you just want to be poor and blame the world you gotta look inside and change yourself 1st then you will see miracles
I would invite people to think about the circle of influence vs circle of concern. I try (and sometimes fail) to remember that if i pour my energy into what is within my circle of concern...BUT outside my circle of influence...I'm am boiling the ocean...and my circle of influence shrinks even more. Our level of privilege is something that Simon invites us to look at whenever he speaks of leadership as "Helping those about your rise"...and when he says "you can lead at any level". He really is saying a similar idea...where i am now, I have the ability and opportunity given to me every day to help someone around me rise. No matter how poor my circumstances. True...I have less influence...but I have a circle of influence and by focusing on what I can influence no matter how tiny...I do indeed expand my circle of influence. In the same light...if I'm focusing on that which I cannot influence and even if I'm focusing on where I see others (privileged) are failing to lead...I'm once again boiling the ocean. I'm failing to lead. I'm pouring my energy into that which I cannot change...and maybe feeling a sense of righteousness...but ultimately wasting my opportunity.
@@astadtodiwala744 and it is me who tells I am woman in this society and it is me who tells that age , race discrimination doesn’t exist and it is me who tells power doesn’t play a role in this society. It is all me and my mind what a great and non making sense way you have put this into wording.
Circumstances do affect a person who is in a country that doesn’t even have water and would not have same circumstances with someone in a country living a comfortable life no matter how much talent they have. There are great talents that get lost daily because they are not discovered due to lack of life circumstances. Yes it is great to inspire but if a person has to worry how to put food on the table versus someone who got all the resources it does effect you wanting to do and achieve something greater.
Hello simon I am a 17 yr old from India and want to ask you a question that : Q. In a "high performance" podcast you told the co hosts why regarding on his childhood and professional experience which he loved the most but in my case of childhood I have two experiences lived in school period which was in 6 and 10 th that made me happy and engraved a deep memory if it in my brain but I have no professional career till now so how to find my why ?
First you have to try many things have different experiences with that you can start getting to know yourself what you’re great at and what you’re passionate of doing! When you said you had 2 experiences in your life which moved you you have to see what was that you were doing what was that pure joy coming out of and what was that you were giving while your doing that thing you gotta link up you gotta look in the small things and details of the things your living at that moment
Leadership in healthcare, this is a worldwide problem.... absolutely the same everywhere in the world. And at the end of a medical leader's career, you can diagnose them with "medical chief acquired sydrome".
I have an idea that anyone dealing with human should be a leader regardless his position , and anyone who deals with documents is not necessary be a leader.
Health insurance is overpriced. I worked for Blue Shield of Iowa and the Equitable in Des Moines, Iowa. Des Moines, Iowa is the insurance Capitol of America. It's a PAC center. Politicians love the money. Until that changes, expect more of the same. Spindustry on steroids.

Thank you Simon. This solidifies I am not thinking incorrectly about strategic planning, setting goals, and tracking status.
Smooth conversations that everyone can understand. Legacy is the word. It’s the best thing we can leave on this planet!
Leadership and helping serving and humility and confidence. Here to there and better.
Thanks Simon / Complex issues elaborated in a very simplistic manner/ great 👍 endeavour 👍 indeed
I agree with Simon and I see where I contributed to this kind of culture in the past.

Simon je suis au travail. Tu me suis depuis toujours. J’attends que tu me dises ton désir
Unfortunately Simon is a drawing on a napkin guy talking to folks that cannot function w/o a full blueprint.
I feel like he stole my material lol most of everything he says “I say that”! 😮 to me it’s not new nor is it rocket science 😊
On dit quoi Simon ?
Tu veux quoi exactement Simon .
Penses tu que sans toi je ne peux pas avoir un homme sérieux et intelligent?? Qui t’a fait croire cette pensée médiocre??
Simon il y a quoi ! Tu veux quoi ? Je m’en vais au travail
