"Deliciously surreal..." love it. Great video folks. As in previous videos, this is another playset I've seldom seen or heard about. Thanks for sharing.
The amount of care that Michael puts into this work is amazing. I don't think anyone loves 80's toys as much as RetroBlasting. Amazing work once again RB Team!
Wow!!! What a walk down memory lane!! Talk about vivid flashbacks from forgotten times!!!! Damn....a straight up blast from the past!!!!! LoL ty bro. Great video.
We had tons of GoBots growing up...once I got into GI Joe, I repurposed mine into 'drones' to fight Cobra. A friend had this Command Center, and we used it later on as Dr. Mindbender's laboratory. Great video, and thanks for reminding me of the GoBots Cafeteria! We made all sorts of comments about the different 'foods' offered.
On breakage during shipping: recently I received a G. I. Joe lot with no packing whatsoever. My heart jumped when the postman handed the box to me and it rattled. One item-- the Cobra Water Moccasin-- had a broken tab, and there was a part from another item rattling around inside it-- that was a bitch to get out. I really had to take a time out before sending an email that may have subjected me to criminal liability. I feel your pain. I feel... your pain.
Love this! This is a playset I'd been wanting to pick up, a few second hand stores near me always have one or two, but this is the first time I saw anyone really go indepth on the interior components. Thank you! I was also recently at a retro convention where a vendor had a very different Gobots base they were offering (not realizing it was the Machine Robo base), and now my hope is to complete this Gobots one for myself, and track down that other Machine Robo playset.
Another great video mate. Remember having this as a kid. The lights worked but not the sound, but not surprised as the guy who owned it before me left it outside all the time rain or shine. Really wanted the AT-AT Walker but the Hasbro one was hard to find in the UK at that time (1998). The only shop near by that sold it was a shop called Kool Collectable in York for £150. No way could afford that at 11 and my parents weren't willing to pay that sort of money for a toy. Use to know a guy who had this playset and asked him if he wanted to swap it for a game I didn't like. He said yes. Knew it wasn't an official AT-AT but though better then nothing. When I managed to get a Kenner one by part exchanging a vintage 12 inch Boba Fett (which cost a £1 at a table top sale). I gave this to my cousin, as he wanted to use it as an ATAT. When the guy I traded with found out he was well annoyed. He asked why, told him it wasn't from SW or a ATAT he been the person he was, convinced he was always right and 99.9% was always wrong and very nasty and aggressive with it, kept telling me it was. He was a complete idiot and he wondered why no one liked him in the end and I can't believe we were mates once I must have been mad. Also he use to take a mick out of mw for been a Star Wars fan, but recently I was working at a Sci Fi convention and he was there and a crap attempt at dressing was wearing a black dressing gown over normal clothes with goth boots carrying a lightsaber was so tempted to comment but pretended I didn't recognise him, though I can't be bothered.
I didn't have this playset as a kid but I did have the fuel hoses in my toy collection. I must of ended up with those from a hodge podge garage sale buy or something. I remember using those pieces with my Joes. Another great vid, RB. Thumbs up!
I had this when I was a kid (i was born in 98) and never knew what it was, and I don't know how I came across it. Seeing it pop up in the thumbnail just brought me back to so many play sessions with my star wars figures and this thing!
Glad to see love for the Gobots! I had the command center back then but don't know what happened to it, probably a garage sale (thanks a lot Mom!!). I kept the individual Gobots though. Their toys and cartoon were a favorite as a kid and I was oblivious to the Transformers comparison. If everyone gave it a chance on its own, it was really a great toyline and show
I don’t know why it took me this long to finally watch this episode of RetroBlasting considering The fact that I’m a big fan of the Gobots toy line. Personally, I always found the Gobots to be the better line between the Transformers only because there were a lot more options on how you could play with the toys. Yes they were much simpler in design compared to a lot of the Transformers but I found that it gave the Gobots a much more unified look and feel. Before I got into Gobots I was a a big fan of Hot Wheels and so a lot of the look and feel to Hot Wheels translated very well to Gobots and as a young child I found that to be very appealing. It was great seeing Micheal put this Gobot Command Center together. It makes me wish I still owned mine. That was one of the toys that got lost in one of our moves despite its large size. So as of now I’m leaving vicariously through Micheal And RetroBlasting!
Seeing this unlocks very old memories. As the youngest of 3 boys I remember vaguely playing with something that was kind of an AT-AT but NOT an AT-AT :) the one we had was either discarded (likely played with until it fell apart) or given away by the time I was maybe 5 or 6. Kind ot sad remembering a lot of my old toys. I had a modest collection of GI Joe tiger force vehicles that my mom gave away :( I loved playing with those. We definetly also had an ewok village and an AT-ST that got played to bits.
I had this as a kid. When I discovered that you could fit all of the Astro Marines vehicles from Starcom inside of it and use it as a troop transport, Leader-1 and the Guardians became homeless
I definitely would have re-purposed this as an Imperial Walker when I was a kid. I would pretend that the back opens up so Storm Troopers could fire from it like an APC.
Awesome I was waiting for Gobots, most of us 80's kids had Gobots, who often cross pollinated with our Transformers. They were actually cool and get a bum rap as being inferior toys. Underdogs yes, but uniquely cool in a simple way. Good times.
Really love these restoration videos , great work guys! I've got one of these in the attic and must dig it out. I'm going for heart surgery in the morning but this will be a project for when I recover. Can you talk about the puzzler ( great toy) and look at the powersuit sets in your Gobots video..... Question, the command centre - is it a vehicle or a play set in your opinion ?
Do people ever store their vintage toys with those little gel packs that help to maintain moisture levels? Wonder if they would help with rubber tire deterioration?
I never used the Command Center with the GoBots. I used it as a troop transport ship for the old Starcom toys. The Starcom mini-vehicles fit in the Command Center perfectly when it was in "ship mode."
Another awesome restoration! You mentioned about M.A.S.K. vehicles and their rubber tires cracking with age, I recently purchased a loose Manta (my only 2nd MASK to ever own) from a local toycon and I am fortunate to find it in almost pristine condition, especially the rubber tires. Do you have any tips on how to store it properly so the tires will last longer?
best part the ending ,loved that cat and mellinda anyways i suffer all the time with the genius people from ebay and u tell them and they even get mad they act macho behind the computer i feel u all the way mike
I always wanted this as a kid, but it's no longer a toy I wish to own even for retro purposes. Maybe because Transformers ultimately won out for me in a big way? Really looking forward to your GoBots review. I remember renting the Rock Lords video many times back in the day.
The US GoBots vehicles were made by Tonka, and are nice. Are you familiar with some of the foreign GoBots and Machine Robo vehicles made by Bandai? Like the two versions of the Battle Base and the Varigale-X?
Hey Michael. Will you be doing a video on Thruster as well. I got the base today, boxed and it says to lower the thruster legs and they don’t move. Looks like they’re screwed into it but you can see, when you starting taking it apart, that it’s mean to slide up and down. Curious! Lol
Are you ever going to do more episodes on the Gobots? I'm one of the few people in the world that truly love them and I have an enormous collection of this toyline. They always get such a bad rap and I hate that. At the time, we loved them equally with the Transformers and all of our other toys. I really enjoyed your video but I would enjoy seeing more from this toyline. Thank you.
I don't think it was cheap or cheesy looking, aside from the face. I think it made for a nice base/carry case for your figures. Huge Transformer fan but have a lot of respect for Gobots. At the very least the Gobots most often looked EXACTLY like how they did in the toon unlike Transformers which more so did not look like how they did in the toon.
I've only got one Go-bot left in my collection, a dark green Apache helicopter. I could'nt remember his name so tried to look it up, in some places he's called Wrongway and in others Warpath. In your opinion which one's right?
Has anyone figured out a way to remove/open the head without breaking it? My has one eye that doesn't flash. It might be a simple fix, but I don't want to risk snapping/breaking the plastic if I do something wrong. Thx.
"...and we plan to talk about the Go-Bots in a multi part feature very soon"... Ten years later... Did I miss it, and it was taken down or something? I'd love to see your coverage of this toyline and it's various tie-ins someday. Or... Did that just become your Transformers vs Go-Bots panel video?
The Go Bots Toys were a cheaper alternative to Transformers. I knew plenty of kids that had Go Bots figures and the Command Center. The Go Bots cartoon however, was a big disappointment compared to Transformers. As a kid, I remember watching a few of the Go Bots episodes, thinking how bad it was, and never watching it again.

My cousin had that toy as well, and we used it as some sort of GI Joe and GoBots HQ place.
Nice seeing some Go-Bots love....Thanks guys and what a great job you did with the Command Center.
On breakage during shipping: recently I received a G. I. Joe lot with no packing whatsoever. My heart jumped when the postman handed the box to me and it rattled. ***** Makes me glad all I collect is Robert B Parker's Spenser series in hardcovers guys. lol
keep up the good videos i love themshows a lot of good toys i ues to play with in the 80's
Job well done Michael and Melinda!

the kid definitely put the stickers on themselves. The interior gives it away. :-)

The parts on that toy must be so difficult to replace. Good work anyway Michael.
had not heard that command center sound in 30 years, f'n awesome!
Amazing video, just that there was a readily available playset for the GoBots period is awesome!
I didn't have this playset as a kid but I did have the fuel hoses in my toy collection. I must of ended up with those from a hodge podge garage sale buy or something. I remember using those pieces with my Joes. Another great vid, RB. Thumbs up!
I won one of these in a Corn On The Cob eating contest in 84.
I had this when I was a kid (i was born in 98) and never knew what it was, and I don't know how I came across it. Seeing it pop up in the thumbnail just brought me back to so many play sessions with my star wars figures and this thing!

Love it, never saw one of these in the wild back in the day.
I have more nostalgia for the Gobots than the Transformers. Had lots of both as a kid, had both the Guardian and Renegade command centers. Good times!
Seeing this unlocks very old memories. As the youngest of 3 boys I remember vaguely playing with something that was kind of an AT-AT but NOT an AT-AT :) the one we had was either discarded (likely played with until it fell apart) or given away by the time I was maybe 5 or 6. I used to own that. Traded it to one of my friends for his pre-hasbro "Omega Supreme"...
Cool review you lot sure like the 1980's! Plus give Retro Blasting 12,000 more subs. For their epic work
Gotta love how that kid at the end of the commercial is like, "Did I really just say that?" No advertising like 80's advertising!
I had this as a kid. When I discovered that you could fit all of the Astro Marines vehicles from Starcom inside of it and use it as a troop transport, Leader-1 and the Guardians became homeless
Looking forward to more gobots videos.
I still have my Command Center.
I definitely would have re-purposed this as an Imperial Walker when I was a kid. I would pretend that the back opens up so Storm Troopers could fire from it like an APC.
Beautiful cat!

brings back memories!
Thx ! will start a restauration soon !
sweet big fluffy cat! :)
I see a cafeteria lol. I didn’t think robots needed to eat.
I'm currently restoring one now sadly the stickers cost more than han the command center lol
I loved how the kid rolled his eyes when he heard that Coptor was grounded. Best laugh of the day.

Lets be honest. That thing is clearly inspired by the Imperial AT-AT.
How they managed to avoid a lawsuit is beyond me.
Cool, I happen to have got a Gobot recently. I got Cy-Kill.
another great video,i will look foward to the feature go bot video. i may be in the minority but i think its an underated toy line.
Would some kind of mineral oil work for those hose parts, something like what gets used on baseball kits?
Another awesome restoration! You mentioned about M.A.S.K. vehicles and their rubber tires cracking with age, I recently purchased a loose Manta (my only 2nd MASK to ever own) from a local toycon and I am fortunate to find it in almost pristine condition, especially the rubber tires. I couldn't find your GoBots episodes beyond this. Have you made them yet?
After watching this video, I now want a Gobot Command Center... and I never even really cared for Gobots!
best part the ending ,loved that cat and mellinda anyways i suffer all the time with the genius people from ebay and u tell them and they even get mad they act macho behind the computer i feel u all the way mike
The flashing eyes and buzzing sound is suppose to be a security system. On the box, I believe Cy-Kill is just walking through it.
I always wanted this as a kid, but it's no longer a toy I wish to own even for retro purposes. Maybe because Transformers ultimately won out for me in a big way?
Really looking forward to your GoBots review. I remember renting the Rock Lords video many times back in the day.
kitty-cat! hey buddy!
Awesome! Job
The Command Center looks like a robot flasher opening his coat and showing the junk.
The US GoBots vehicles were made by Tonka, and are nice. Are you familiar with some of the foreign GoBots and Machine Robo vehicles made by Bandai? Like the two versions of the Battle Base and the Varigale-X?
will you talk about the Gobots dvd's. I read there is a season 1 set coming

Hey Michael. Will you be doing a video on Thruster as well. I got the base today, boxed and it says to lower the thruster legs and they don’t move. Looks like they’re screwed into it but you can see, when you starting taking it apart, that it’s mean to slide up and down. Curious! Lol
Supernaturals by Tonka !!!!! Please do a segment on them
Nice care bear stare reference
In the few first minutes of this video I noticed on the top shelf in the background a white and blue tower looking playset of some kind, what is that?
Are you ever going to do more episodes on the Gobots? I'm one of the few people in the world that truly love them and I have an enormous collection of this toyline. They always get such a bad rap and I hate that. At the time, we loved them equally with the Transformers and all of our other toys. Dude do the GOBOT review already !
Do you want me to do it half-ass now? Or do it correctly when I'm ready?
+RetroBlasting Half-ass...now...
+RetroBlasting Preferably correctly. A delayed review has a chance to be good. A rushed review is forever bad.
I like dinosaurs too.
Kirby likes dinosaurs!!!!!!!
Nestle Quick had a Go Bots giveaway..I used to have a container
19:21 - KITTEH!
Oh, and Melinda as well.
I've only got one Go-bot left in my collection, a dark green Apache helicopter. I could'nt remember his name so tried to look it up, in some places he's called Wrongway and in others Warpath. In your opinion which one's right?

"...and we plan to talk about the Go-Bots in a multi part feature very soon"...
Ten years later...
Did I miss it, and it was taken down or something?
I'd love to see your coverage of this toyline and it's various tie-ins someday.
Or... Did that just become your Transformers vs Go-Bots panel video?
I kind of wish Hasbro would do an updated re-release of this since this was an original Tonka toy. Havetie in to one of ther TF toy lines
Is it okay to use WD-40 on toys to loosen wheels and joints?
S ooo ooo ooo is go bots still happening
I had Cop-tur..brittle plastic rotor blade..then there was Super Cykill
I watched this just because I bought one and it did not come with the instructions so thanks
The summer before the cartoons aired I thought the GoBots toy line was better. Then the cartoon came out and Scooter.
Try to repair it with Black Milliput
Retroblasting are you going to be doing any thing with classic Lego as such as space, castle, and town
can't wait to see it!
***** you ever plan on showing the ol' Bandai Godaikin line? just wondering
oh yeah I remember that one. Sorry^^;
i use to have one and a thruster
Your parents put it together...LOL.
they kinda look like atats.
Sure I have no clue
Always great content found here.
I have one for restoration
First like!
