@@lunarvision I have the same issue. One piece is now MIA. I could not find any replacement springs at the major stores. You can however take you chances at buying a kit for door latches/stoppers in hope to find something usable. That could be over the top though. Finally I found a local mom and pop hardware store that sells several individual springs. I purchases several that looked like they could work. I still had to cut them to fit. Happy hunting
I got the G1 Jetfire as a gift from my father. That Varitech model is ahead of its time. It’s displayed on my desk to this day. What a sexy piece of Japanese engineering.
Great restoration video. A thought that might help: if you take a toy apart, it's a great opportunity to clean it and put some grease (I use facial cream) on any parts that turn and you might be afraid of breaking. This also ends any squeeky sounds when turning a part.
Looking into making models to 3d printing parts for my G1 Soundwave. As a kid I liked to take apart my transformers on occasion lol. Like this video though my Soundwave was missing his head, battery cover but also the chrome buttons in front, eject switch and chest cassette cover. Wish me luck :)
I would suggest getting some zipper-lubricant (used for fixing sticky zippers) to lubricate the joints where plastic rubs against plastic. This will make sure that friction build-up doesn't add stress to the surrounding plastic parts (like the neck area around the head.) The lubricant is not oily and won't damage the plastic.
I liked Soundwave cause of the cassettes as a kid. I have the Master edition Soundwave that comes with 5 cassettes. Now I want to get Blaster but TF collecting can get expensive.
Looking at the ground up plastic powder on the replacement Soundwave's neck makes me wonder if it could be a good idea to try to use some plastic safe lubricant to reduce wear on joints. I've seen such lubricant's in model railroading stores
its crazy how every kid put the stickers meant for the weapons on the sides of the tape deck. almost every SW i have ever seen has those stickers in the wrong place so weird
I had to rebuild a G1 Grimlock(and G2)and with a transformers you have to be very meticulous. So this video was flashback hell but great neither the less.
Galvatron had reused some of Soundwave's old parts, along with some other new parts and has reconstructed another Soundwave, and has renamed him *NEW* Soundwave!
When I was a kid I found a Soundwave that had a working cassette player and was fully transformable...do you think it would be worth tracking down one?
G1 Soundwave is still the best Soundwave for a CHUG collection in my opinion. I hate the door on the reissue figure, so I'm in the market for a nice pre-toys R us soundwave.
The arms on my SW G1 reissue are loose at the shoulder joint, so i can’t get him to hold his gun in a firing position, is there a simple way to stiffen the joint without making it completely immobile?
I need help I’m reassembling my soundwave now I’ve put a new head in but can’t figure out why the seam near the cassette door hinge isn’t going in place?!?
***** Oh, the Mirage broken at the waist -- that is a cursed toy. I actually broke one just like that as a kid...and it wasn't mine which made the break all the more awful. I'd love to find out how to replace the plastic pin with a metal one.
I still have my Jetfire & Soundwave from back then. Nothing is broken but I have lost all the accessories. A few stickers are peeling and Jetfire is yellow but I never had issues with my toys breaking. But then again I never let anyone else touch them and as a kid I was careful.
You should have a channel called RestoBlasting haha great video. As brittle as these can be, Popy blue plastic was even worse. Ever have the blue Voltron/Albegas robot? Any popy/godaikin bot with that blue plastic suffered. The worst offender I have ever come across is the Takatoku M-Lover figures which LITERALLY shatter like glass if you breathe on them the wrong way.
RocketPunchArmy haha! How did I miss this comment?! Good call on the name! I'm stunned by the problems of longevity with Japanese robot plastic! Given the quality of the toys otherwise, you'd think the materials would be better too!
actually if you have a broken buzz saw some of the parts can be removed.the heads , off really easy. The legs are generally difficult but sometimes you can get them off without breaking them. Never really taken a look at one to see how the wings come off .i have a rather strange soundwave and grimloke .i have a grandma that is apparently a robot Godzilla quite a few parts of it are modeled after Godzilla where it has green instead of robotic parts and it has Godzilla bikes down it back. One of the soundwaves that I have is copyright dated 1974 four 1978 with a bunch of writing in Japanese characters after the copyright date .
Noob question, my brother had Soundwave as a kid and I snuck the bird away. But when he had it, It was Laserbeak not the other one he had. I thought when you bought Soundwave you got Laserbeak instead? Just wondering. But its really nice to see the G1 transformers getting such respect so many years later.
Hey, love your videos. I have a generations Thundercracker that came out of card with the right arm cannon unable to stay firmly in the shoulder and just wobbles loosely and falls out. Are you capable of fixing it and how much would that cost? I've been a Transformers fan sense catching a glimpse of a g2 bumper on TV at 2 or 3 years old/ Hard to remember exactly but it's one of a few memories strong enough for me to remember. Rest of my early years are hard to due to me having to have brain surgery at 6 months old due to head trauma.
***** Oh wait, you mean both or just the Thundercracker or Prime? Because we've been in contact recently before you replied to this comment about the Prime.
my soundwave is from 83 does not have the rub decepticon logo but a sticker and has the 1983 date and takara co ltd inside the battery compartment , also i think he has a more darker blue color then your soundwave , but it might be the lights you use ... how do i fix the legs , arms and head ...they are so loose atm , hard to make him stand well
Lego Forestman It's the lights. My Soundwave is very dark blue as well. As for the legs, there's no cure -- you just have to twist them out slightly a bit and pigeon-toe him to get a better standing position.
What do you guys think of Soundwave's portrayal in the Transformers movies? I think they did an okay job in making him a major tool in the villainy plot. He was a satellite. A major communications device.
When I was younger the one thing that made it salvageable/more enjoyable was reading the movie tie in comics which in a way gave me an imaginary subtext/more character to the Transformers since their roles are pretty much backseat.
After watching this I regret having sold my original Soundwave for parts. Bright side I got parts for my original GI Joe Dragonfly helicopter with the money.
HEY WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?!? I am repairing a G1 Soundwave and the springs and metal spring part came out and I have no idea how/where they go! Please help.
The voice of Soundwave is identical to that of Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget(they are both voiced by Frank Welker). It's just put through a synth a lot like auto tune used in music today.
I winced! You are talking about how fragile Transformers can be, especially Buzz Saw/Laser Beak; and literally doing the thing with the wing/leg that leads to most of those breaks. Ugggh. Don't open the wings without the leg fully transformered. That leads to most of the joint loosening on the wings, stress on the metal post the leg is attached on, and stresses all the plastic.
I got a mib G1 Soundwave 4 years ago on ebay and the cassette door wouldn't open and I had to fix it.It's legs are so stiff I was afraid to transform it.
i have a complete one in box, got it for christmas, didn't want that one i explain to my grandma . I told her i wanted megatron , but she said i couldn't have it cause it was a gun .so i skipped transformers and went to gijoe mania
I keep forgetting Soundwave came with Buzzsaw, considering how Lazerbeak got all the screen time in the G1 cartoon.

This was my fav transformer growing up. I have about 5 versions of him now in my collection.
Soundwave was the first Transformer I got....thanks Mom....
Really digging all these restoration videos. Looks like I'm set for the rest of the day now.
I got the G1 Jetfire as a gift from my father. That Varitech model is ahead of its time. It’s displayed on my desk to this day. What a sexy piece of Japanese engineering.
Always great to see you guys bring another toy back to life! Particularly when it's from one of my personal fav. cartoon series :D
JokerFett Thanks Joker!
Best voice of any transformer.
I miss these videos! Still love the current direction of the channel.
Great restoration video. A thought that might help: if you take a toy apart, it's a great opportunity to clean it and put some grease (I use facial cream) on any parts that turn and you might be afraid of breaking. This also ends any squeeky sounds when turning a part.
hofquarters Very interesting. I will keep that in mind for the future.
The coolest character. You too Michael.
Great video... this is why I'm pleased to have the option of official re-issues.
Very cool. Love Soundwave. He's one of the coolest Transformers ever, both in figure and character.
Nice work Doc.. Ratchet would be proud!
smoluk1 Thanks man!
smoluk1 and first aid
Ahhh This reminds me of when I was first getting into transfromers back in 2007. My first one was swindle
Soundwave was cool. Frank Welker did a great job as well.
I have to say I actually get giddy when I see a new video posted by you guys. Thanks!
You’re awesome, bro. Keep tha inner child alive!
Great resto bid as always, M&M. In my Sound wave voice, '' it was HEA-VEN!!! ''
derrick hollis HAHA
If i had to pick voices from the transformers, soundwave would be in the top 3 . Reminds me of the cylons . Keep up the good work love your channel ✌️
Excellent, just picked up a G1 soundwave and wondered if there's any good videos to take him apart (hes really loose) Was glad to see it was you guys.
Does taking him apart cause him to be less loose?
When I did this nothing worked!!!
The spring loaded cassette deck is totally broken. Why don’t you even mention all the springs?!?
Very nice! Turned out good and it look to be one of your easier restorations.
John Gaither Thankfully!
A transformer barely alive. We can rebuild him.

The first Transformer i ever bought in 1985 from min birthday money, 75 Dutch guilders
Cool information you passed out to us

Michael I know you're not a big transformers fan, still jealous of that soundwave!
I liked Soundwave cause of the cassettes as a kid. I have the Master edition Soundwave that comes with 5 cassettes. Now I want to get Blaster but TF collecting can get expensive.
So this is how soundblaster was born.

its crazy how every kid put the stickers meant for the weapons on the sides of the tape deck. almost every SW i have ever seen has those stickers in the wrong place so weird
Huh? I guess I was too much of a rules-abiding kid that I always put labels in the right places.
I had to rebuild a G1 Grimlock(and G2)and with a transformers you have to be very meticulous. So this video was flashback hell but great neither the less.
i have to say it,soundwave supirior, constructicons inferior, another great restoration vid, also it looks like your stickers held up well over 30 years.
I always thought of Soundwave being pretty sturdy. I had a problem with the eject door on Blaster though.
My personal favorite transformers as a child. I thought his voice was so cool. And how he rejected all those cassette transformers
Galvatron had reused some of Soundwave's old parts, along with some other new parts and has reconstructed another Soundwave, and has renamed him *NEW* Soundwave!
Are you talking about the headmasters anime? If so, his name isn't New Soundwave. It's Soundblaster.
When I was a kid I found a Soundwave that had a working cassette player and was fully transformable...do you think it would be worth tracking down one?

great job
The arms on my SW G1 reissue are loose at the shoulder joint, so i can’t get him to hold his gun in a firing position, is there a simple way to stiffen the joint without making it completely immobile?
A light touch of crazy glue and keep rotating the arm so it doesn't stay glued. It will make the joint stiff.
I need help I’m reassembling my soundwave now I’ve put a new head in but can’t figure out why the seam near the cassette door hinge isn’t going in place?!?
I like this vid hey is there any tips for fixing a g1 mirage thats broken at the waist (I got it on ebay a few years ago and it broke afterwards)
***** Oh, the Mirage broken at the waist -- that is a cursed toy. I actually broke one just like that as a kid...and it wasn't mine which made the break all the more awful. I'd love to find out how to replace the plastic pin with a metal one.
01:44 I'm so sorry your brother's head fell off. That must have been rough... :-/
kranktank HAHA
Nice! Great video.
Misfitforever 76 Thanks misfit!
impressive !
So this is how Soundblaster was created
How do you remove the clear cassette door? It looks like it doesn't come out without bending or something. How do I get it out.
Soundwave superior!
So good
Damn, I wish I had his parents in 1984.
I still have my Jetfire & Soundwave from back then. Nothing is broken but I have lost all the accessories. A few stickers are peeling and Jetfire is yellow but I never had issues with my toys breaking. But then again I never let anyone else touch them and as a kid I was careful.

GarouLady Inexplicably, you got Buzzsaw. Laserbeak was sold separately... :(
do you still have the broken buzz saw?

What size is the hardware in the event I need to replace some screws ?
Hi I have a g1 hook and every time I transform him his arm gals off and the “extendo-putronum” part is loose af do u know how to fix?

Do you ever consider using a little WD-40 on the plastic?
blaster is fun to repair as his eject button stops working after awhile check it out
Megatwon Mo skeet tee That's the truth. The eject button always seems to get stuck.
Thanks got it
I am curious because I got a g1 Hun gurr today and I see some rusted screws I and wondering what to do
What do you guys think of Soundwave's portrayal in the Transformers movies? I think they did an okay job in making him a major tool in the villainy plot. He was a satellite. A major communications device.
Also being Megatron's most loyal, he was the coolest Decepticon in my opinion.
When I was younger the one thing that made it salvageable/more enjoyable was reading the movie tie in comics which in a way gave me an imaginary subtext/more character to the Transformers since their roles are pretty much backseat.
WoW that's a Bad Ass Original G1 Soundwave" what can they Go for in mint Condition??
You should get laserbeak or rubble and frenzy or ravage
After watching this I regret having sold my original Soundwave for parts. Bright side I got parts for my original GI Joe Dragonfly helicopter with the money.
HEY WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?!?
I am repairing a G1 Soundwave and the springs and metal spring part came out and I have no idea how/where they go! Please help.
My soundwave is the after rub one and how would u tighten the legs on him?
dude, I love your video, but in case you forgot, the legs has an R and an L on them.
How do you fix loose legs?
Crazy thought here but does anyone know how they got the voices to sound like that in the original transformers cartoon? it sounds awesome!
AlphaTrion92 I know the distortion sounds awesome! definitely sounds robotic.
The voice of Soundwave is identical to that of Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget(they are both voiced by Frank Welker). It's just put through a synth a lot like auto tune used in music today.
awesomefanger Oh COOL! and yet when they had Soundwave voice clips I thought it would sound awesome if it was put to music.
Finn McCool I will have to look that up!
Michael, I get nervous every time you torque a screw in a G1 Transformer, LOL
So do I
Well then, since you fixed your childhood Soundwave, I bet you don't need the reissue Soundwave to replace it.
I winced!

Be glad it's stiff
Soundwave superior autobots interior
Hi retroblasting
I loved Transformers as a kid, but yeah, a lot of them were not very well-made. I was always gentle with my toys, but Transformers ALWAYS broke
Buzzsaw: please fix papi :(
Man wish I'd taken better care of my Transformers, or at least kept the parts when they broke.
Where does the little V shaped looking piece of metal go?
it like soundblaster
So not restoring, just replacing.
Timothy Ward
Well on the way to a grandfather's axe.
i have a complete one in box, got it for christmas, didn't want that one i explain to my grandma . I told her i wanted megatron , but she said i couldn't have it cause it was a gun .so i skipped transformers and went to gijoe mania
valo smoke Valo, that was an excellent choice on your part.
My G1 Stalker is loose at the panel that covers his left leg
Does anyone know how to fix it?
Is your brother a fellow collector or could he not care less about these things now?
Does anyone know where I can have someone restore my G1 Toys R Us Soundwave for a decent price?
Domo arigato Mr roboto
The only flaw with my Soundwave is that he no longer ejects. Kinda sad.
Soundwave heads are the worst! I gave up trying to transform mine because I knew he would break
where do you live? can I come help?
