At least this video confirmed that the data of the game is not lost. I remember hearing rumors and stories of how the last remaining rom was deleted, or sold to a guy who died, with no where abouts on the rom's location. I always felt those stories sounded too fishy to be true, but Louise O'Connor pretty much confirmed that Rare still has the game in their archives. It's believable too, since the footage shown is without a doubt the highest resolution imagery and footage of the game, ever released to the public.
That's clearly not the case anymore, since Rare was able to dig out the game through their archives, and give us those clear quality gameplay clips. Whether the game is finished or not, I want Twelve Tales: Conker 64 to get released as either a rom, or as dlc for Rare Replay.

I think that different hats mechanic is still in Conker's Bad Fur Day. In this part where Conker had to swim in this underwater place in a safe while avoiding these robo fish (I think it's a parody of The Abyss), he wears a torch hat and in this stone age part, he wears a black saber-toothed tiger hat.

Wow! I love these Rare Revealed videos. I've kind of been a Rare fan boy ever since I was little and realized that people actually made video games and that games didn't just appear out of nowhere. Seeing the kind of planning process that goes into things like this is really interesting to me. Seeing this early beta footage is really fun too. I'm sure at least someone at Rare is aware of how much money people have offered for Twelve Tales-related things. This video is like dangling the game itself in front of them and giggling.
The orginal conker actually looks really fun, imfact if that version was kid friendly it probably would have sold more then banjoe kazooie, but as somome who loves conkers bad fur day i'm glad we got the more ranchy version
My guess is that both versions could work really well. It's so disappointing that a game that was almost finished got cut just because some idiot wrote a bad review. The fact that they put so much work and detail in a promising game that got never released is just bad. Twelve Tales would become another hit, maybe even better than SM64 or BK. Don't focus on the cuteness when the title itself is full of pure fun, great ideas and innovative gameplay. Rare made a big mistake here. They still could have released BFD for an older audience later.
I'm just glad you guys didn't throw your cancelled games away. Speaking of which, would you guys mind showing the gamecube version of grabbed by the ghoulies or Donkey Kong racing if you guys still have it?
you mean conker other bad day? oh that got cancelled due to rares buyout from Nintendo you see the game was made for the GameCube with other games and due to Microsoft buying out rare they had to remake conkers bad fur fay
By this video showing these betas/demos/prototypes in high resolution (meaning that these videos were recorded recently) we can absolutely tell that they still really got all of these roms safe and sound. I recognised almost all the video game scenes seen from early VHS footages and photos from magazines. It would be amazing if those roms leaked. Unfortunately I think they can't release them officially because of the logos/trademarks and other copyright material of Nintendo and other producers/artists. So a leak would be the only way of getting us to play these prototypes.
Guys please release another Conker game!! Amazing video by the way, it looked pretty fun, still the one that actually came out is amazing, finished it today for the first time thanks to Rare Replay.

H4mm3rSp4c3 ya I get that, but once they're at a point where they're creating scenes from the story board or concept art, game designers could be working on the next game; that's if they're not busy with making sure their vision is seen.
***** Never been a game developer, however I do read a lot about the process thus I disagree. I truly doubt a studio will make 2 games at the same time (unless they're really huge) until one of them is very near completion.
H4mm3rSp4c3 same here, and ya true. I did hear the voice of conker said that, the team that made donkey kong 64, didn't do a great job of optimizing the game, compared to the conker dev team. Granted this was 10+ years ago. their dev team is pretty small now.
Young Conker is terrifying. The fake one, most of all. He has a terrifying face and body. Real young Conker, is terrifying because of the realistic design.
FINALLY, we get to see footage from Rare themselves. Allow me to say those of you up there at Rare, if there is still a build of this game lying around, I would LOVE to get a chance to play this! Its not something you would have to spend much money on to get out the door since it already exist. Just putting a nice polish on it and throw it up on the Xbox Live store, I would buy this in a second!
What happened to Berri at 2:30, why is she pink all of a sudden? I can tell the creators were experimenting with her appearance frequently. One minute she's all brown, then she's grey with blonde hair, like her final design from Bad Fur Day, and then she's pink with blonde hair.
Yes... just wait and this will leak... Maybe they will even leak Conker's other bad day... (the canceled conker GameCube sequel that turned into Live and reloaded)
You could say that "Conker's Twelve Tales" turned into "Conker's Twelve Steps," am I right? See, because he's an alcoholic. Eh? Eh? I'll go to face the corner and think about what I just did.
I'd love to see someone take some inspiration from this old idea and mesh it with Wind Waker's art style and such. It almost seems like the two games were long lost kin.
Conker's Bad Fur Day had fantastic humor and a super multiplayer mode but I think the single player campaign was too linear and too short and after replaying it I think it's not even a good platformer because it has some issues however I have fond memories when I think about it. I wonder how Twelve Tales would have turned out because it looks very promising.
You tease me with telling me that the game is still in your archive and you still don't give us the rom of the game T~T I have always wanted to play Twelve Tales and even more so since the game was technically finished and just delayed and delayed until they just scrapped the release because of Banjo and other platforming games coming out. I find it saddening to hear about gaming being canceled to release because of other games coming out. If you have the rom Rare, can we please have it? I would love you more than the 100% I already do....
At 0:57, you can tell that this game is being played on an emulator, just look at the sky! And the footage isn't blurry! I couldn't describe how excited I'd be if this rom were leaked or available for download some day... It happened with Star Fox 2, so..
This game looked almost finished it's a shame they decided to change it. Don't get me wrong I love bad fur day but I would love to see this game be released as well it looked fun and cute. No graphical update would be needed I just want to see the original vision
Oh god tell me that's footage of a Twelve Tales ROM, because this is too high-quality to be a video that was uploaded 8 years ago, or 30 minutes worth of footage given to different magazine publishers like Nintendo Power, in the form of a VHS. Besides, we have so much fun playing all your other unreleased games that are found, dumped, and let loose and free for other players to enjoy, such as the cancelled Battletoads GBA game, Diddy Kong Pilot, and that's about as much as I can think of. If that is a ROM, please release that ROM, because it's been too damn long, and Conker's Pocket Tales has gotten a bit boring, not to mention CPT wasn't well-recieved, but that was because of it's top-down perspective. It has been 18 years since Twelve Tales' reveal, and 14 years since Conker's Bad Fur Day came out. Besides, ever since Twelve Tales' cancellation, I desperately dreamt day & night about playing that game (not all the time, but when it popped into mind, I did). I mean, even if it's just the E3 1997 beta, and not the one from the half-hour long footage, we'd still play it, give it a 12 out of 10, and wait for the other one. Basically, no procastinating, dump the ROM now, and let all out lives be complete. That, or Twelve Tales as Rare Replay DLC.
Renzo Ugarelli Not to mention, to further prove that the footage is emulator-quality, the emulator is a bit glitches, so although the footage doesn't look too bad, Berri uses Conker's eye graphics, and the clouds in the main area is all glitched up. It might be something to point out that they might've used Nemu64, as that emulator's known for having graphical messes. Just look at Super Smash Bros. running on Nemu64. It looks like puke compared to running it on Project 64, a much better and handier N64 emulator. What other N64 emulator has widescreen?
+Nunof Yerbizness With further inspection, the resolution actually looks to be 494 by 360. I'm not sure why it would be such an obscure resolution let alone aspect ratio, but that's what I'm seeing.
tbh, looks better in this select footage than what (I've played at least) we received in regards two versions of the game that we did get. If the humor doesn't grab you its kind of like the same feeling you get when you are sitting on an overcrowded bus and people are constantly whittlin' down your seat space.
Rare please give us the rom for twelve tales conker 64. Add it to Rare Replay i will upgrade from my old pc to an Xbox One just to play Twelve Tales Conker 64. Please!!!!
Really saddening to see what Twelve Tales was shaping up to be. From the look of it, that could have been one platformer I'd have very fond memories of had it come out in my day - so much that it could have been the Crash Bandicoot that drew me to the Nintendo 64 rather than the PlayStation. Alas...
Well, it's a console that is no longer produced and has no games produced for anymore, so I don't think Microsoft really cares. Microsoft also doesn't care much for the portable gaming market, which is also why Rare was allowed to create games for Nintendo's handhelds.
+Poketto if u bothered to read my comment u would of relized i said anytime soon i never said the old games were bad i love the old games so read before u comment
How would this compare to Bad Fur Day? Let's actually look at BFD first. Bad Fur Day is a much more linear game than other Rare platforms, such as Banjo Kazoo and Donkey Kong 64. Rare clearly wanted to scale back the amount of collecting in the game. Instead, BFD focuses on a variety of gameplay types, from bull-riding to third-person shooting. This makes it much more of an action-platformer than other Rare platforms. However, this comes at the expense of length; BFD is definitely shorter than both Banjo games and DK 64. Conker 64 looks to have had a similar collect-a-thin design to Banjo. Thus, it would have likely had more worlds to explore and more quests to tackle. However, this would have come at the expense of the parodies and cutscenes in BFD. Basically, both games would have featured drastically different gameplay styles. Seeing that there's a dearth of 3D collect-a-thin platforms today, I wouldn't mind being able to play Twelve Tales.
If Rare ever does a second Replay, they seriously should consider adding a graveyard/cutting room floor section, where these unfinished games can be played. (obviously put a warning that they're not completed/fully playable and are prone to crash) but it would make a fascinating addition and something no one has ever really done before.

Conker had probably some of the best animation in any of Rare's older works. BFD is one of my favorite games of all time. Thanks for sharing Rare!
If they could finish this game and make it a DLC for Rare Replay
I would definetly buy an xbox and RR, just to play that one
Young Conker is terrifying. The fake one, most of all. He has a terrifying face and body. Real young Conker, is terrifying because of the realistic design.
at least the game is in good hands and it has not been destroyed
I find it interesting that they have such nice high resolution footage.
Brandon Klopp the footage your seeing is actual gameplay tryst they dug up to show us.
FINALLY, we get to see footage from Rare themselves. Allow me to say those of you up there at Rare, if there is still a build of this game lying around, I would LOVE to get a chance to play this!
Its not something you would have to spend much money on to get out the door since it already exist. Just putting a nice polish on it and throw it up on the Xbox Live store, I would buy this in a second!
this looks really cute with music it has lots of gameplay variety i eouldnt doubt that it could have been one of the best 3d platformers of that era
WE WANT A NEW CONKER GAME!!!
Super Lucky's Tale is probably the closest thing that we'll get to this game.
1:57
I wish that ability was added in BFD
Because that would have been cool
Thanks so much for sharing this new footage! Rare Replay is really worth the purchase specially for Rare fanatics.
The unreleased version should be put on Nintendo's N64 Virtual Library.
I’M BEGGING YOU!! RELEASE THIS GAME, I WILL BUY IT INSTANTLY
Release de BETA Conker ROM Please!
All I can really say about this is thank you. Rare really does go the extra mile.
Did Louise do voice acting work in the game? Her voice sounds a lot like Berri's,
C-Rex yeah
C-Rex she voiced Berri and the Sunflower.
That would be amazing if Rare made a prequel to Conker showing how Little Conker from 12 tales turned into what we know him as today
2:51"Chris Allcock" poor guy! :/
+Kniffel101 It must be terrible for him.
+Kniffel101 He must be a good friend with Steve Noballs
Adam K 😂
What happened to Berri at 2:30, why is she pink all of a sudden? I can tell the creators were experimenting with her appearance frequently. One minute she's all brown, then she's grey with blonde hair, like her final design from Bad Fur Day, and then she's pink with blonde hair.
"What the damn-diddly squat are ya doing in my barn!?" 😂
Hey we found a prototype of Dinosaur planet, who says their isn't one out there for this beauty.
Yes... just wait and this will leak...
Maybe they will even leak Conker's other bad day... (the canceled conker GameCube sequel that turned into Live and reloaded)
I FOR ONE, Prefer Twelve Tales: Conker 64 to Conker's Bad Fur Day
New3DSLUIGI364 Because you're probably like 10, right
New3DSLUIGI364 your not alone
One of the best of all time and one of my favorites for sure. Incredible game.
You could say that "Conker's Twelve Tales" turned into "Conker's Twelve Steps," am I right?
See, because he's an alcoholic.
Eh? Eh?
I'll go to face the corner and think about what I just did.
hall9111 no here is the door.
Marco Fantasy 😂
That would make a funny meta-reference, actually.
Patrick: I don’t get it.
I wish Rare was money hungry like Concker so we can get the sequal
To be honest, I still wish we had gotten this Conker instead of the mature version.
please PLEASE make a remake of Twelve Tales EVERYONE NEEDS IT
I reckon this game should be on the N64 classic edition like there was starfox 2 on the SNES classic edition
That would be cool! But definitely not the final game. As uh...
IT'S RATED M
@@renewings yeah, it's not like nintendo has released any m rated games before
Glad it turned into Bad Fur Day but wouldn't mind playing this. They really need to release more Conker games.
....the Horror............the Horror...................................................
It's dreadful, isn't it.
You gotta talk about it man, you can't just avoid it for the rest of your life. *pats shoulder*
for Christ's sake's,Chris...
I'd love to see someone take some inspiration from this old idea and mesh it with Wind Waker's art style and such. It almost seems like the two games were long lost kin.
1:38 Before they left it to make CBFD.
Please consider release these roms to public, any of us we would love play the lovely cute conker sounds very fun to play.
The game was finished before they made the change to bad fur day so why not release twelve tales?
i just find this a slap in the face, kts like they're saying look at this awesome game we've made and you will never know how it feels
This game would've been ahead of it's time
Why couldn't Conker have stayed this way?
I honestly much prefer how they've handled him in his games.
Thank you rare!!!! For all these!!
I still wish we had gotten this Conker instead of what Rare gave us.
I was thinking the same , it's too polished to be a video from years ago.
+Nunof Yerbizness
With further inspection, the resolution actually looks to be 494 by 360. I'm not sure why it would be such an obscure resolution let alone aspect ratio, but that's what I'm seeing.
The FPS of the footage seems to be Proyect64's. And there's almost no shadowing so im guessing it IS P64
I wouldn't know exactly, because I use v1.7 of Project 64. I looked at v2.1, and it somehow acts crappier than v1.7.
I love how the threat of Rareware's own internal competition (in the form of Banjo-Kazooie) was what spurred them into reinventing themselves
I want to play this Beta-version too!
tbh, looks better in this select footage than what (I've played at least) we received in regards two versions of the game that we did get.
Please!!!!
loving these vids Rare
but then young conker came along.......
good job microsoft
I hope you're being sarcastic.
Still release it 😢
Hi, Rare. Can you revive Twelve Tales: Conker please? I'm just asking. It's just a suggestion.
Really saddening to see what Twelve Tales was shaping up to be. From the look of it, that could have been one platformer I'd have very fond memories of had it come out in my day - so much that it could have been the Crash Bandicoot that drew me to the Nintendo 64 rather than the PlayStation. Alas...
She said game boy color... is she allowed to say that on xbox?
Well, it's a console that is no longer produced and has no games produced for anymore, so I don't think Microsoft really cares. Microsoft also doesn't care much for the portable gaming market, which is also why Rare was allowed to create games for Nintendo's handhelds.
This is a yt channel. For example, you CAN say Minecraft without licensing, AND the game isn't copyrighted by Nintendo, so yeah.
Wait .. she did the voice for Berri didn't she?
Like, that's totally awesome.
are you guys gonna make a good game any time soon
+my dad Of course
+my dad What an ungrateful thing to say. Are you going to bother playing a Rare game from the past decade before spouting nonsense anytime soon?
+Poketto if u bothered to read my comment u would of relized i said anytime soon i never said the old games were bad i love the old games so read before u comment
my dad I read it, it has a very clear implication.
+Poketto Rare games from the past decade have ranged from bad to mediocre and I say that as a huge Rare fan.
twelve tales conker would be a success if it were released
Sir p-please... th-th-the b-beta r-rom?
SuperHankinsBros Is there articles or anything on google about THE ROM😭
vopervictory.weebly.com/conker-twelve-tales-rom.html maybe this is the game I don't really know my pc can't download it and i don't know why
I wish this game was unlockable in Rare Replay similar to Star Fox 2 on the SNES Classic Edition.
Seeing that there's a dearth of 3D collect-a-thin platforms today, I wouldn't mind being able to play Twelve Tales.
i would love to see this game released.
