davidevgen Kind of like Alice in Wonderland. Conker wants to get home mostly... but his hangover causes him to end up anywhere but home, and his greed for money keeps the journey going. It is an excellent plot for how well thought out the randomness actually is.
Freddy Pasta Yooka Laylee looks amazing, but i think the ending of the video is right, dont think there will be anything like conkers bad fur day. A game that is a charming platformer with nsfw comedy material and violence. I think with the way the media has become sensitive to stuff like that, even if a game like it was being made, it might receive backlash/censoring.

The key point in this video is the game's developed by spontaeneity, which is essentially what humor/comedy derives from: You reflect on your day, write down notes and suddenly humor's created.
Such honest words from Chris at the end. He could have easily left it out and given us hope for a possible sequel, but his compelling truthfulness to say "we're not the people to make that game"... i can respect that. Beautiful.
Seemed to me that they were talking about more of doing a remake of the original in that statement. They would be right, since references to the Terminator or Clockwork Orange probably wouldn't work for today's youth.

We dont care though, and support the idea no matter what, which leads us to ruining great franchises (lotr, star wars for example) Just accept that magic was made, and that you can always go back to it
Funnily enough if you check Chris Seavor's Twitter page, he put up design documents on the rejected sequel, Conker's Other Bad Day. A lot of what was cut from this game was going to be in that. Including the back up singers.

Maybe it's for the best that we Rare didn't force themselves to make another Conker. Bad Fur Day was a game that they had a lot of fun making at the time and it shows. A sequel would have just felt like a job, and the quality would have surely suffered. Plus, it'd be hard to top all the raunchyness and audacious humor they got away with in the first game.
I dunno dude, I think they could have taken the violence and obscenity to a whole new level. But I don't think they quite knew how to advance to the next generation. As all of their games post N64 prove.
they actually had a sequel in the works at the same time so everyone on the team was still in the same mind set and were still as passionate, you can read the wiki on the idea for the beginning of the game, but Microsoft are the ones who axed the idea of a sequel as soon as they bought rare.
There's been a script and pre-production material of a sequel since 2002 back when they were planning one for the gamecube. And there's also tons of unused/uncut assets on a hard drive at Rare with the cancelled Live & Uncut and initial concepts of a sequel. Nintendo and Microsoft just weren't interested. So they'll languish in Seavor's desk forever.

They are so ashamed. It was such a creative game and i truly loved it. Rare stole my heart with this game and banjo Kazooie. Major creative influences in my life. Today's audience definitely coulnt handle this with a streight face. Still emulating on my phone to this day.

I have nostalgia for the starfox 64 game, i played mario 64 to death and i could not go back to that and appreciate it, now. Conker was a funny game. That is a game i can go back to, even though the controls of it wasn't perfect, the swiming on it was awkward to get used to. Appart from that it was a good game the humour made up for it.
The problem wasn't people reaching the game, it was the game reaching people. The marketing for BFD was neutered by Nintendo who grew worried that parents would accidentally buy this game for their kids due to the cutesy look of the characters and the big Rareware logo. Despite the big M rectangle and a notice on the box indicating this game was absolutely not for anyone under 17, Nintendo got cold feet and gave the game a very limited marketing campaign. I bought BFD 3 months after launch for $19.99 and nabbed 3 copies of the official strategy guide for a penny each! That's how hard the marketing screwed over the game. Most of my friends hadn't even heard of it, and the ones who had seen the commercials on late night TV were confused as the ad had no gameplay or plot synopsis.
I haven't played this game in years and as soon as they showed the great mighty poo and i remembered all the lyrics of the opera and sang along. Damn, i love this game
Honestly a lot of people saying the end to this video sucks and is painful etc. Honestly I feel kind of relieved. Like some 15 odd years of constipation finally came to an end. Finally some fucking Closure. You know? And honestly that's a reason why no sequel that's much more acceptable than the one we've been assuming this whole time. As the other lad put it elsewhere in the comments: If it was Microsoft who were stonewalling the Conker sequel, I'd be pissed and annoyed as I have been since the original ended abruptly and we never saw the likes of it's sheer genius again. However the truth? That they just don't think they could pull off this sheer level of quality and awesomeness again. And I can respect, and more importantly, understand that. I don't know why Chris Seavor was more honest about that to begin with. Could have saved me an entire decade of mourning for this so called "series" that showed such amazing promise and potential which was just, as I already said, abruptly ended. Rare is great at doing that aren't they, leaving me with more questions?? Questions like "What the hell happened with Conker's Big Reunion then?" I gotta be honest, I got hyped as fuck over that game. It's RARE (pun huehue) that I literally count down the days to a game's release. I did. I counted down every last day. I marked that shit on the calendar. And what came out was... just a jumbled mess. The return of Chris Seavor as a voice actor for all the characters being the biggest draw in it's craptastic animation and texturing, lack of innovation and laughs and complete lack of a greater plot. "Tediz are back.... Yeah that's all we've got." ^^^ The entire Plot of Conkers Big Reunion Really sad, all of it. But, I feel a bit of closure with that final statement of Chris Seavor. A man I've respected immensely as the "brains" behind this game. He's grown. And it's true. To try and release a sequel nowadays, with anything less than the best efforts they can humanly muster, would be nothing more than a nostalgia wank. What we LOVED about Conkers Bad Fur Day in the first place: State of the art animation, (some of the system's best, frankly) tons of clever pop culture references, tight controls, legitimately fun gameplay... all of that. To pull that off again would be a miracle by any measure. Conker was a true gem of it's time. I have my doubts a sequel, nowadays, would have the same kind of love and attention it needs to be successful. Now, gentleman, I must go and research what the fuck happened to the sequel. I wash my hands of this, and finally put this old game to rest. Rest in peace, Conker.

Conker's bad Fur day is my absolute favorite game of all time, without it I probably wouldn't be as I am now, it showed me how different games could be and nothing has matched up with this masterpiece, knowing that I'll never see my favorite orange mascot really thrones my sadness...LONG LIVE CONKER THE KING

I don't see how it's Microsoft's fault at all, same for what also happened with Banjo. They didn't force Rareware to do the stuff they did in the mid 2000s. They gave them creative freedom and just wanted them to make some good exclusives. Its the devs faults for bungling it all up. They were all butthurt that Nintendo didn't buy them, and they were so strapped for cash that they sold themselves to Microsoft. They made that call, it's not like Microsoft maniacally swooped up Rare like Grunty stealing Tooty. I don't get this whole demonization of Microsoft stigma when it comes to Rareware. I think the devs actually did what they did on purpose to sabotage the company before they all jumped ship. Nuts & Bolts 4th wall humor heavily hints at the notion that they KNEW they were doing a bad job. That level of self awareness means they were taking the piss out on their buyer before they fled. So the reason why there haven't been anymore old Rare IP revivals is because the OG devs who made them good aren't there anymore because they got bitter sentiment towards what happened. Blame the higher ups in Rare for the downfall. Not the devs, not Microsoft.

I know this is a year old, but you hit the nail on the head. I was thinking how easy it would be to make a game with raunchy humor now, but it just wouldn't be as funny. It was funny because it didn't fit. It would be like if there was an official blues clues movie that was 18+... All the content prior was kid friendly, this was very far in the opposite direction.

I've been playing this game since I first rented it for the N64 and beat it and have been literally playing it my whole life on every system from computers to phones and OG XBOX live and reloaded, I will beat this game tomorrow on a N64 emulator on a tablet with a PS5 controller tomorrow, I will play this game forever, game on gamers 😁🎮✌️
Phil Spencer did say he’s not stopping rare from making a new Conker or Banjo kazooie, but sadly I feel if they do decide to make a new game they’ll lean more towards banjo. I hope a new conker is released man they can finally release that story they came up with a long time ago with beautiful modern graphics. And an online multiplayer

Played this on an emulator recently. Because it randomly popped into my mind while trying to sleep one night. Old memories of my nan buying it for me for the N64 and her thinking it was a game about a cute squirrel going about his day. She watched me play 15 minutes and tried to take it off of me. 😂
This game was such a wild ride. O loved this game. Honestly wish they could have made a sequel with conker going on another adventure to find the devs and get Berry back or some shid. Hearing that Nintendo dropped support in this game too is a complete shocker.
It really feels like Tim and Chris Stamper had achieved everything they ever wanted with Rare by the end of the N64 era, to such an extent that they just went "Fuck it, we've got nothing left to lose. Let's get Chris Seavor to write the most mad platformer ever conceived and see if we can get away with it."
Honestly, if Conkur is all about that modernist spontaneity, I wouldn't mind a sequel that's super different. The edginess is marketable, but the theme of tragedy is what gets me. I feel like that could translate across games pretty well, even if other stuff wouldn't. Not that it matters, but yeah.

The ending makes sense. A sequel to Bad Fur Day just couldnt happen. There wasn't a cliffhanger in the slightest. Conker doesnt need to be a series, because his only well known game was a masterpiece in its own right. He makes a point. Just go play Bad Fur Day. It will be well worth it.

Update on previous post: Big reunion was cancelled because "Project Spark" is pretty much free, along with all DLC. And no more paid DLC support. "Young Conker" for the Microsoft Hololens looks likes absolute shit. Go hate it.
This game is coming to PC. Someone needs to take Chris's blueprints and prove him wrong in a mod that acts as a sequel. It can be a little different if it's made with love by fans
Conker needs to be one of the last fighters for Smash Ultimate so he can get some recognition again! Banjo and Kazooie are in it so it only makes sense for him to be in it too. Also, there are M rated characters like Bayonetta, Snake, and Joker; so that makes it possible. Well, here's hoping. They should at the very least remaster it for the Nintendo Switch.

Funnily enough if you check Chris Seavor's Twitter page, he put up design documents on the rejected sequel, Conker's Other Bad Day. A lot of what was cut from this game was going to be in that. Including the back up singers.

Strange how the "feminism army" is so often said to take games down when all of these games exist without a peep, with hundreds added daily to those marketplaces. Maybe it's for the best that we Rare didn't force themselves to make another Conker. Bad Fur Day was a game that they had a lot of fun making at the time and it shows. A sequel would have just felt like a job, and the quality would have surely suffered. Plus, it'd be hard to top all the raunchyness and audacious humor they got away with in the first game.
I dunno dude, I think they could have taken the violence and obscenity to a whole new level. But I don't think they quite knew how to advance to the next generation. As all of their games post N64 prove.
they actually had a sequel in the works at the same time so everyone on the team was still in the same mind set and were still as passionate, you can read the wiki on the idea for the beginning of the game, but Microsoft are the ones who axed the idea of a sequel as soon as they bought rare.
There's been a script and pre-production material of a sequel since 2002 back when they were planning one for the gamecube.
And there's also tons of unused/uncut assets on a hard drive at Rare with the cancelled Live & Uncut and initial concepts of a sequel.
Nintendo and Microsoft just weren't interested. So they'll languish in Seavor's desk forever.

Just look at the diminished returns of Live and Reloaded. As much as I would love a proper sequel, I can’t imagine it being able to recapture that appeal at all.

They are so ashamed. It was such a creative game and i truly loved it. Rare stole my heart with this game and banjo Kazooie. Major creative influences in my life. Today's audience definitely coulnt handle this with a streight face. Still emulating on my phone to this day.

I have nostalgia for the starfox 64 game, i played mario 64 to death and i could not go back to that and appreciate it, now. Conker was a funny game. That is a game i can go back to, even though the controls of it wasn't perfect, the swiming on it was awkward to get used to. Appart from that it was a good game the humour made up for it.
If more people had reached this game at its release time, it would have been a massive success. Bring Conker back, please.
The problem wasn't people reaching the game, it was the game reaching people.
The marketing for BFD was neutered by Nintendo who grew worried that parents would accidentally buy this game for their kids due to the cutesy look of the characters and the big Rareware logo.
Despite the big M rectangle and a notice on the box indicating this game was absolutely not for anyone under 17, Nintendo got cold feet and gave the game a very limited marketing campaign.
I bought BFD 3 months after launch for $19.99 and nabbed 3 copies of the official strategy guide for a penny each! That's how hard the marketing screwed over the game. Most of my friends hadn't even heard of it, and the ones who had seen the commercials on late night TV were confused as the ad had no gameplay or plot synopsis.

I haven't played this game in years and as soon as they showed the great mighty poo and i remembered all the lyrics of the opera and sang along. Damn, i love this game

Honestly a lot of people saying the end to this video sucks and is painful etc. Honestly I feel kind of relieved. Like some 15 odd years of constipation finally came to an end. Finally some fucking Closure. You know? And honestly that's a reason why no sequel that's much more acceptable than the one we've been assuming this whole time.
As the other lad put it elsewhere in the comments: If it was Microsoft who were stonewalling the Conker sequel, I'd be pissed and annoyed as I have been since the original ended abruptly and we never saw the likes of it's sheer genius again.
However the truth? That they just don't think they could pull off this sheer level of quality and awesomeness again. And I can respect, and more importantly, understand that. I don't know why Chris Seavor was more honest about that to begin with. Could have saved me an entire decade of mourning for this so called "series" that showed such amazing promise and potential which was just, as I already said, abruptly ended. And to be honest, what they did with the ending of the game was mainly to blame for this.
If they had just taken the time to give the original game a cheery, definitive ending instead of ending with the brutally sad, depressing ending they had, coupled with that goddamn post-credits scene suggesting a possible sequel, I would have led a happier, more care free existence.
However another commentator (sorry I can't be arsed to remember your names) had a very good point that brings me a lot of hope when they mentioned Stick of Truth as a good example of a great, modern game packed with solid gameplay and hilarious adult humour. I've been so caught up in the nostalgia of this game that another game with the same qualities completely slipped under my radar.
Yet, that just leaves me with more questions. Fuck. Rare is great at doing that aren't they, leaving me with more questions??

I gotta be honest, I got hyped as fuck over that game. It's RARE (pun huehue) that I literally count down the days to a game's release. I did. I counted down every last day. I marked that shit on the calendar. And what came out was... just a jumbled mess. The return of Chris Seavor as a voice actor for all the characters being the biggest draw in it's craptastic animation and texturing, lack of innovation and laughs and complete lack of a greater plot.

Really sad, all of it. But, I feel a bit of closure with that final statement of Chris Seavor. A man I've respected immensely as the "brains" behind this game. He's grown. And it's true. To try and release a sequel nowadays, with anything less than the best efforts they can humanly muster, would be nothing more than a nostalgia wank. What we LOVED about Conkers Bad Fur Day in the first place: State of the art animation, (some of the system's best, frankly) tons of clever pop culture references, tight controls, legitimately fun gameplay... all of that. To pull that off again would be a miracle by any measure.
Conker was a true gem of it's time. I have my doubts a sequel, nowadays, would have the same kind of love and attention it needs to be successful.
Now, gentleman, I must go and research what the fuck happened to the sequel. I wash my hands of this, and finally put this old game to rest. Rest in peace, Conker.

Ah, back when games were developed by relatively small groups of people with creative freedom. Now a days a major game can take ten years to make and these kind of absurd ideas probably don't make it past pre-production.
Conker's bad Fur day is my absolute favorite game of all time, without it I probably wouldn't be as I am now, it showed me how different games could be and nothing has matched up with this masterpiece, knowing that I'll never see my favorite orange mascot really thrones my sadness...LONG LIVE CONKER THE KING

I don't see how it's Microsoft's fault at all, same for what also happened with Banjo. They didn't force Rareware to do the stuff they did in the mid 2000s. They gave them creative freedom and just wanted them to make some good exclusives. Its the devs faults for bungling it all up.
They were all butthurt that Nintendo didn't buy them, and they were so strapped for cash that they sold themselves to Microsoft. They made that call, it's not like Microsoft maniacally swooped up Rare like Grunty stealing Tooty. I don't get this whole demonization of Microsoft stigma when it comes to Rareware. I think the devs actually did what they did on purpose to sabotage the company before they all jumped ship. Nuts & Bolts 4th wall humor heavily hints at the notion that they KNEW they were doing a bad job. That level of self awareness means they were taking the piss out on their buyer before they fled.
So the reason why there haven't been anymore old Rare IP revivals is because the OG devs who made them good aren't there anymore because they got bitter sentiment towards what happened. Blame the higher ups in Rare for the downfall. Not the devs, not Microsoft.

Clark Kierstadt on chris’ personal channel, which is called something like “the real conker” or something like that, he did a playthrough of BFD with chris marlow and very briefly spoke in conker’s voice for a short part in it. Oh, and Marlow did a live performance of his opera when they played the GMP level, it’s pretty spectacular

I know this is a year old, but you hit the nail on the head. I was thinking how easy it would be to make a game with raunchy humor now, but it just wouldn't be as funny. It was funny because it didn't fit. It would be like if there was an official blues clues movie that was 18+... All the content prior was kid friendly, this was very far in the opposite direction.

@@Tlplgyt Rare confirmed that the censorship was they're idea. In the original the swearing was shocking in the context of an N 64 game. On the Xbox not so much, so Rare felt the swearing was pointless now.

Played this on an emulator recently. Because it randomly popped into my mind while trying to sleep one night. Old memories of my nan buying it for me for the N64 and her thinking it was a game about a cute squirrel going about his day. She watched me play 15 minutes and tried to take it off of me. 😂

This game was such a wild ride. O loved this game. Honestly wish they could have made a sequel with conker going on another adventure to find the devs and get Berry back or some shid. Hearing that Nintendo dropped support in this game too is a complete shocker.
It really feels like Tim and Chris Stamper had achieved everything they ever wanted with Rare by the end of the N64 era, to such an extent that they just went "Fuck it, we've got nothing left to lose. Let's get Chris Seavor to write the most mad platformer ever conceived and see if we can get away with it."
Honestly, if Conkur is all about that modernist spontaneity, I wouldn't mind a sequel that's super different.
The edginess is marketable, but the theme of tragedy is what gets me. I feel like that could translate across games pretty well, even if other stuff wouldn't.

The ending makes sense. A sequel to Bad Fur Day just couldnt happen. There wasn't a cliffhanger in the slightest. Conker doesnt need to be a series, because his only well known game was a masterpiece in its own right. He makes a point. Just go play Bad Fur Day. It will be well worth it.

Conker needs to be one of the last fighters for Smash Ultimate so he can get some recognition again! Banjo and Kazooie are in it so it only makes sense for him to be in it too. Also, there are M rated characters like Bayonetta, Snake, and Joker; so that makes it possible. Well, here's hoping. They should at the very least remaster it for the Nintendo Switch.
