Vintage Rusty Lunch Box & Thermos Restoration
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 чер 2024
- In this video I decide to give an old lunch box and thermos a makeover. I start by disassembling the box then sandblast and powder coat the parts. I noticed the cup was missing off the top of the thermos. I thought it would look great with a custom wooden cup. At the end I made a delicious sandwich using power and hand tools! I hope you guys enjoy, if you do leave a like and a comment. Subscribe if you would like to see more awesome content ;).

If my granddad was still alive, he would definitely buy this from you.
He worked at the steel mill for 40+ years, and during that time, he carried the exact same lunch box ( except his was grey). After he retired, he used it as a toolbox.
Sadly, it got lost in a tornado.
Sad it was lost! 💙
@@DrRestoration yeah. I would have loved to have it
The cup really made this restoration for me. I loved it!
Watching the sandwich being made was very entertaining!
It was the sandwich that saved this video for me...
😂😂😂
Superb video skills on top of very talented tools and maching techniques- brilliant!
Thank you
Nice restoration. Loved the making of that infamous BLT sandwich!
I had a lot of fun! Thanks
I am really getting hungry watching you use your tools to make a sandwich and quite amused as well
😂🥪
That wooden cup is a great addition. Ps love the bunny ears on your horse skull ❤️
Excellent job, I love the "lunch box test"... 😂
Glad you liked it! 😆
Love your work and your quirky sense of humour. Very informative and entertaining. Cheers mate.
Awesome video doc! A true magician, you brought back a piece of history that would have been dismissed and thrown away.
I loved the innovation of the wooden cup! It looks gorgeous. Curious, would it take hot tea or coffee? Anyway gorgeous restoration!
Back in the day you could buy replacement glass flasks for popular thermos sizes. They came with replacement gaskets for top and bottom so there was a bit of shock absorber action and to keep liquids in the flask and out of the metal cover.
This is my new favorite video of yours, thank you. Great job on the restoration! And I'll never look at my kitchen utensils with quite the same amount of respect. 😄 #workshoplunch
Thanks Tim!
Soo cool! And unique I love vintage and old items! They truly made them more stylish and stronger back than.
Thanks! I agree! 🙂
Great job Bro, love the new wood cup. Now I'll use my tools to make a sandwich 😄
Thanks bro! Yes slowly we will become cooking channels 😂

Great restoration and watching you make the lunch was fun!
Glad you enjoyed it Jim! :)
The sandwich and the end 🤣 ffs🤣 haaaaahahahaaaa that’s awesome

Thank you Mary! 😊
Obiwan has taught you well!!!
Thanks Michael!
Love it, great video and great restoration
Thank you! 🙂
Beautiful restore and Iike that really well.
elle est magnifique!
Have to admit that is a cool idea with the wire wheel and especially the cup! Great restore!Just an FYI if you scour Facebook market place you can get a good vintage wood lathe pretty cheap. I got an old Craftsman tube lathe for 100 bucks with chisels, and a Craftsman Dunlap 101 Table top lathe for 75 bucks. Both had motors but I went and scoured for some free/cheap treadmills and used the motors in them.
I’ve had my eye out for a nice lathe, I have one available to me but it’s in another state.
@@DrRestoration might be worth the drive. I took a 3 hr drive to pick up a hardinge metal lathe for 250. Fully restored its worth about 1,300. I'm in the process of it now.
Good video bro!Greetings from Germany
Thank you! Greetings! ✌️
Enjoyed the show
Awesome restoration! Plus a very fun video! Happy Easter!
Thank you, Happy Easter! 🙂
It's so funny when the cheese is getting cut
OMG love the way ya make the sandwich nice rusty scissors to cut the lettuce got to get your daily Iron
🤣
The cover for the flask is metal not wood. Also the flask is supposed to fit it the cover of the lunchbox that's why the cover is that shape and that's why the bracket is there. The bracket keeps the flask in the cover.
not gonna lie. I'd eat that sammich. 10/10
Same 🥪
I think you missed this time. Colors didn't match any of the original ones. The vacuum bottle was an Aladin brand (likely was a dark green plaid) and had a Thermos cork. Aladin used a different system with a flip lever. If I seem to know about these it's because my father carried one when I was a child in the 1950's.
cool lunch box, unfortunately there was no such thing in Germany, good restoration 👍👍👍Best regards from Cologne
I had a lunchbox just like that when I was in grade school except mine wasn't metal, it was plastic and it was orange, not yellow. Shape was different too 🤔 now that I think about it....Winona Ryder is a terrible actress 🤭
Nice! Who doesn't love a good tetanus toast for lunch 😃
Held my breath everytime I saw you "juggling" with the glass insert from the flask 😱 if that breaks you're screwed 😁 You could have done a bit more effort on the cup (make the outer diameter exact as the rest of the flask and threaded it) but hey, who am I to comment on that 😄 overall a good job !
Haha thanks!
Beautiful job man. I'm subscribed!
Dud! If you're that hard up for kitchen utensils, I'll go visit a thrift store and send you some!
😂
Отлично сделано 👍
Очень нравятся твои видео, ты молодец
Тебя смотрят в России 😉
...не только Оля но и Вадим!!!
Couldn't help it but the design strongly reminds me of Fallout
Awesome 👍
Fallout vaults civilian hate me
😑
looked up the patent # on this. its a circa 1912 patent by Hamilton metal products but looks to be a 1940's era miner's lunch box.
That’s awesome, thanks for the information!
@@DrRestoration your very welcome! :D
well done! But yellow? Scary color for an antique kitchen utensil!
Hahaha it was Easter special
Doesn’t a Dole banana sticker belong on that thing somewhere ??????
By the way great restoration work
Hello, I watch your videos very nice and constantly but your videos make me sleepy and sleep so sometimes I can't see the end of the video, I watch the videos when I want to sleep.😂☺️☺️
And now I got used to it so that I can go back to sleep even if I just woke up watching your videos.😴😴☺️
Now I'm watching this video and trying not to sleep because I wonder how perfect it will be in the end, but I constantly yawn while watching.☺️Greetings from Turkey🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
I always watch restoration videos to go to sleep, this is what got me interested in doing it myself! Greetings from Florida, US 🙂
You are great my friend, you are loved 🖐🤜🤛
Looks nice but I don't want to trade lunches with you though LOL
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thank you! I had fun making it!
@@DrRestoration You're welcome! Yeah it looks like you were having fun

Nice job but I would have picked the blue color.
Sir Dr, thank you for the medicine.
I have a 70's lunch box with pictures on it with some rust. How do I remove the rust without affecting the pictures?
It looks awesome! Brilliant color ❤
I loved the video but the yellow color. That kills it for me.
The lunch box was nice. The sandwich? Ehh. Lol
Your channel landed on my feed and I happily subscribed. That was my Easter gift!
Awesome, welcome to the channel 🙂
The lunch box and jug is actually green but yellow is a good color choice...... I suppose 🤔
Was an Easter special 😂🐣
@@DrRestoration
oh oh-ta the yoke🥚 🍳 is on me . 🤣
Not enough bacon or mayo! Come on man! Lol.
Nice work.
Green would have been a better color. Otherwise good job
Extra Mayo for me please
😃👍👍👍👌
More than a little disappointing you didn't do traditional green hammertone
My Grandma picked the color ☺️
@@DrRestoration well, mad respect then for giving your gramgram what she wants
👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻❤🇬🇷
But I didn't say yellow I said blue.
I have one complaint, why yellow??? Man, why not blue or green? You could have done blue and paint the lines to be white and have it like a car man. At least you saved every piece of history to the lunch box, but I still don't like the yellow.
It’s a yellow Ferrari 😂
@@DrRestoration That sounds about right lol, but good work keeping everything original. God bless you man.
Ok, I’m gonna say it. The U shaped metal holding the handle have been massively weaker buy bending them out then back. I would’ve thought the best bet would to have kept the handle and all metal work together.
I’d have thought orange but the yellow isn’t to bad
Not a fan of the color.
you have left dents and pits. You have not used primer to cover the defects. What a mess..
Great at restoration,bad at cooking
😂
Dents and dings remain, lid doesn't shut square, metal polishing was substandard....I'm sorry, but this was not done well. Guess I got spoiled watching 'my mechanics' channel.
Hopefully I will get better with practice 🙂
