Dear Mr. The box for the tools of socket wrenches, as you just made, have given me ideas, but I also have to make the box for various tools myself. But you make it all very beautiful and I not only enjoy it but also learn from it.
This is just a tip. A peice of foam would be nice for the lid. It will cushion the tools and keep the tools from rattling. Just a tip. Nice restoration though. Have a good one.
On that oak board, I would’ve made a u-shaped groove across the entire board across the horizontal pieces to better facilitate removal of those pieces. This would give my thumb and index finger a place to be able to go to aid in pulling out those long horizontal tool pieces. Otherwise, nice job!
The insert was too deep. You'll never be able to grab anything out of there but the sockets without using a magnet or something to pry them out. Great video to watch though.
Nice project. Just remember the final finish will ALWAYS depend on the prep work you put into it. Even powder coat will never make a questionable surface look flawless. But nice project all the same. Any time you save a tool is a great thing...
Now That is a proper restoration, and not just buffing it up, are painting a tool, and declaring you restored it. Very very nice work, and you've made yourself proud🤟👍 Green is my flavor color 😍
Great job!!! Love the wood insert. I work in a FOD environment and have to have individual shadows, but I’m going to do this. I prefer my old tools to new. They have character. Again. Great job!
Nice job. I liked the blue finish. It kind of looked like a hammered finish. A tip for filling the pitting if you want a smoother finish before painting or powder coating, use bondo. Dries quickly and easy to sand smooth.
Love your work and this restoration, especially the wood insert. - I was struggling to think of what I could do on my own restoration and the answer is now solved, many thanks
You can tell that this tool box sat in the same place undisturbed for a very long time. I think the only change I would have made would have been to retain the plastic tray. It didn't look like it had become brittle or was falling apart. Could have also used it to create a mold out of silicon and made a new tray that way. Something possibly to try for next time. Still. Any save is a good one!

The work on creating the insert to replace the plastic interior was great. But being a nit picker (it's genetic), I could see some of the box edges were separating from other edges when you were measuring. The light was coming through the gaps. I am surprised you did not seal those to be safe. Sure the whole box is merely folded metal but a little reinforcement after the great job patching the letters in the top would have been the cherry on the top of such nice work.
Should sand off or paint the lettering on the case. Couldn't see how much relief there was in the insert to allow removal of the rachets. Nice project.
I really like the green, it makes it look more classic. However, I wish you would have painted the letters white to make them stand out. God bless man ✝️
It came out pretty good. Next time try a coat of primer and instead of powder paint, just a simple “baked “ enamel. The primer covers a multitude of sins, and the enamel will flow under heat very nicely. Also a chemical rust remover might do a slightly better job of rust removal... although the blaster looks like it did a good job. (The solution can get into micro-cracks a bit better). Also a router might have made the wood removal process a bit easier and faster for you. But everything looks great. Good job.
Love the wooden replacement tool holder! Novel idea! Well Done Mate! One thing you can try on another powder-coat project is to use black as a ground coat for the candy blue.
When I die you’re more than welcome to bring ME back to life like you did this box!
Reincarnation as a tool set, got it!
@@DrRestoration 😂😂😂
@@DrRestoration I'd prefer a tap and die set. You know, anything associated with screwing.
@@Desmodus1958 hahaha I’ve got one 😉
@@DrRestoration 😂😂
The most impressive thing about this video is that box got that way with none of the original set pieces being lost or incomplete
I have another the same way I’ll be restoring soon!
The green looks nice
I'm not a huge fan of how the wood turned out, but overall you gave it new life. I hate throwing out old tools, so you definitely saved them here!

I really enjoyed this video, no talking, just showing. How cool is this guy, with a bit of humour thrown in!!
U r the world best all-rounder..
Very nice restoration !

Very nice idea I will add some foam or felt!

Keep on keeping on,my man!
Thanks for your kind words Torb! There’s some great stuff coming! 🙂
@@DrRestoration Thanks for your answer! You are very kind.
I like the green, too. It reminds me of the classic S-K tool boxes I remember from the 70s.

Not dead...just very sick.
Great job!!
I liked. Good job.
Definitely better with the green! Close to John Deere green? Great work on the wood inserts!
Blue paint looks like there are stars
Awesome
Green is a winner in this case , one pass over the face with epoxy putty , sand and new finish , I still like the transformation
VERY impressive!
ottimo restauro
nice job.
Thanks!

👊Thank you!! I knew I should have went with green to start! 😂
Not really a restoration when he destroys the original plastic insert
Way cool 👍 😍
you restore the box is very beautiful. I will learn your way.
Thank you! We never stop learning 🙂
Great job... thanks!
Amazing videos. Youve got my sub/like, man. I hope to one day acquire a makers lab like yours. Keep up the interesting videos bud!
Thanks for the sub!
Excellent!!! The wood was a very nice touch!!!
Thank you!
What do you think is the minimum size air compressor for sandblasting?
I’d say ideally you want 30 gallons or more.
Way better than ever.....
Looks very good
I liked the bumpy blue !
Beautiful restoration job. Love the oak interior.
Your skills and ingenuity are to be admired Sir. Thank you for sharing !
Thank you! 🙂
This restoration was the most "meh it's fine" restoration Ive seen so far
Other restorers would be embarrassed to post half-assery like this.
This is very well done!
Thank you!
I like the backwards blade trick you did there
Thank you ❤️👍🏼🇺🇸🌵
"I'll bring it back to life".
Very cool...
Good job like always. Big fan of powder painting 🤗
Nice color
Thanks Ab 🙂
turned a cool old vintage socket set into a heirloom. good job!
Thanks Steve

The blue looked awesome in my opinion, not as neat as the green but way more interesting
Hello mister beautiful restoration good job
Thank you!
Love the green well done
What is your table made out of to where u can see writing that well
It’s a chalk board paint.
Looks good, great job 👍
Totally amazing
Really loved the colour
Nice choice 👌

Good stuff
So satisfying! Thanks for the video
Very nicely done. But BLUE is better
Great work just subscribed
Thank you John! 🙂
I had just that set there about 1982 and steel was very soft! The sockets striped out and the ratchet end sheared off.
No I was not abusing the tool.
Yep, These are dollar store quality.
Excelente trabajo 👍 y la base de las herramientas quedó genial 👍 en madera. Muy bella caja. Saludos desde Venezuela ciudad de Maracaibo.

What was the wire for when you spray painted the box black?
It provides a current so the powder coat sticks
Why did you not bondo the pitting on the outside of the box?
Nicely done! Very cool restoration and I love the wood insert idea.
Thanks again bro!

I will have to try that blue on black!
11:21 are these bubbles in the black paint inside the bottom of the box?
i would have never have thought to use wood for the insert i would have gone straight for foam but it looks great
well done sir...you can make sell them again.i.like the quality of your video.
Great job, I want to do as you do👍
So glad you ripped up that extruded plastic insert. You made a new one
Are some of the sockets 8point?
Yes I found that interesting, they are all the same brand, made in Japan. Maybe the previous owner had 2 sets?
@@DrRestoration for square nuts and bolts. Just caught my eye since I dont come across those as offen. Nice video
@@rushedscheduledfun3963 ahhh I see, thanks for the info.
Very very nice! Great job, like always!
Thanks DC! Proud of this one 🙂
A CNC or laser cutter would have been helpful on this project. I wish I had a sandblaster so I could do this too!
Me gustaría más si hubiese aplicado merula a la parte con imperfecciones.
I think that is an old SK tool set , used to sell those decades ago was one of my first sets I got as a teenager ..
did you not use any power coat primer before the first blue application?
Wow, that’s now magnificent! That wood insert really sets it apart from the normal socket set. 👍🇦🇺
Thanks Mate!
3:40 what is this tool/process?
Sand or media blasting 😀
Good work. If you paint the letters, it will look better.
Thanks for the tip
It's going to be hard to grip the tools for removal when they are recessed that deep into the wood.
5:03 OH GOD MY EARS. Hahaha, great job as always my dude!
Haha my bad! Thank you 🙂
Why did you destroy the moulded insert......????
Nice job. The wood part needs some finger cutouts so you can pull the tools out easier.
I didn’t think of that, great idea!
уровень дворового умельца...
y u no router bro
Hopefully I’ll have one soon. 🙃
That was a great restoration! New subscriber!
Thanks Jim!
Where on earth was kept that tool box ? I think it was stolen and hidden outside under the leafs or rotten woods ...
