Wow this video really took off! I want to thank everyone for their continued support! I enjoy making these videos. Not only do I get to learn, but I also get to share some knowledge with all of you! Stay tuned more to come! Much love, Dr Restoration 💙
I absolutely love this, especially with that handle, nevermind the other guy's comment about it. My husband actually has this exact toolbox but he's treated it very well and has never left it in the rain, so it's in great shape, minus several dents in it though. lol - fantastic job. I love unique features on restorations. 👍
A wonderful tribute to my late great grandfather, William the first, as he used this when he did his job as an early electrician. I just wish my dad (William III) were still here to do these projects with you. I'm in love with the turn out and appreciative of my help in choosing how the restoration turned out! XO
Hello again! Congratulations on the new equipment. This turned out decent in the end. The powder coating looks like it turned out well. While it was sad to see the original hardware go, it was incredibly pitted, and would have possibly failed fairly soon. I also suspect that those d-rings may not have been original to the box. For constructive feedback, work on paying attention to the smaller details to take your projects to the next level. For example, when using pop rivets, they should all be installed from the same side, preferably the exterior, for aesthetic reasons. Backing washers can be used to reinforce the interior side, if needed. Any excess shank can be filed or ground down for extra clearance, if necessary. You definitely have talent, and good instincts. I will enjoy watching you progress, and hope my feedback is useful to you. Thank you for sharing your craft with us.
Hey James, thanks I didn’t think to use a washer at the time! The holes were too big and a washer would have allowed me to put the rivets in the same way. I’ll have to go fix that! Thanks again for the advise!
Great job I used to powder coat for Black and Decker many moons ago they had a line where we could have up to eight colours being painted. I used to hand paint the underside of the workmates they built. I like to watch it being done. I was also an agricultural fitter before that so this project reminds me of the two jobs I worked at right from being a fifteen year old apprentice. Until I had an accident at work. Keep up the good work. 👍👍👍👍👍 From the UK 🇬🇧
That’s awesome Ken! Thank you for the kind words, I’m sure you could teach me a thing or 2 😂, but I’m enjoying every minute of this journey and I can only get better!
I’ve 4 rusty dented boxes similar to yours. Loved the video, great ideas, great technique. Got to find someone with a blast cabinet and away I go. Let’s see more restorations. Great video. Thanks
Great job, very nice work on this toolbox. I really liked your techniques, but really prefer regular painting rather than powder, in this case I'd use filler, sanded, than primer, wet sanded and final coating. This would give you a very, very nice surface. Powder coat is very nice when you don't have souch pitch on your surface, so the final quality is assured only with one coating.
Besides, not everyone has powder coating equipment, and since I don’t do this type of thing on any sort of a regular basis I’d be hard pressed to justify buying it.
Just discovered your channel. Literally the amount of these boxes you see in car boots and jumble sales for a couple of pennies in the UK! Man you could make a fortune!!! Love the handle BTW!
You just appeared in my feed. great job(says me!! a senior lady who has never done anything like this). I just love the handle. Now I have to go & watch the rest of your videos.
I found a tool box very similar to this one I plan to restore it like this one. I just need to find someone to sand blast it and then powder coat it, I think I'm gonna go old school and sand it , then paint it. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it. i
Fair job. With practice, your work will improve. Prep for painting is crucial. The finish coat is determined by the primer coats, with rub downs in between. Consider using an epoxy filler with metal content to help with the powder coating or use a rattle can with build up.
Beautiful restoration! I was worried about the wrench handle at first, but it really came out wonderful. You've got a like and a subscription from me out of this restore!
Probably the coolest looking toolbox handle out there. Probably not the most comfortable to grab with weight, but really unique. Great save on this old box !
I realize this is an older video. However, I just hope you don't need either of those wrenches for doing another project. Very nice refurbishing by the way... Thumbs Up!
When you're putting the pin in the hinge, a nice tip is to leave it in the drill like when you sanded it. Spin it and push it into the hinge. Painless and takes 20 seconds
Nice. I just redone an one and I painted it with Buick Green Engine Paint. Engine paint is oil and grease resistant, cheaper than Powder coat and will last just as long and if I scratch it I don't have to do the entire thing over again, I can just feather out the scratch and shoot some more paint on that spot.
LOVE the handle. You have the exact same set up as I do, sand blaster box, powder coater equipment. I was amazed that you spray the powder in a box with a filter exactly as I do for my channel. lol, Great job!
awesome old toolbox! I've got 2 of them, one red & one blue. I love them because they get beat to hell everyday and take the abuse like a champ...must be built by Ford lol.

Thanks Chris!

Sensational job of the old toolbox! Hope it will serve for many more years.

How about paint color
Purple x pink for aesthetic
Excellent job on a very good presentation. I really like the innovative idea of using a twisted up wrench for a handle. Outstanding!
Thank you 😄
Not crazy about the handle. Almost looks bigger than the box. Lol. All in all, satisfying video. Thanks.
Nice and calm.No stressful music! Nice filming!Looking forward to see more of your clips!

A lot of those old toolboxes were made by students in shop class long ago. I have an anvil that my uncle made in 1939!

You could try powder coating primer, there is one that fills holes and such for a smoother finish
Great job like that you painted the inside not often showed
I wanted to contrast the inside with black, I love how it came out. 🙂
Mind blowing
awesome old toolbox! I've got 2 of them, one red & one blue. I love them because they get beat to hell everyday and take the abuse like a champ...must be built by Ford lol.
