Before going to India, I kind of imagined this really distant, strange, unwelcoming, dangerous and scary country, mostly due to what people had been telling me recently and basically, all of my life. But the minute I stepped off the plane in Delhi, the second I walked out of the airport, it felt like home. Everyone had been wrong, at least from my experience, because this is the most welcoming, beautiful, diverse and special country I've been to. Even now, people almost praise me for having lived 3 months in India, like it's the most challenging thing in the world but honestly, these were the easiest and happiest days of my life. Travelling India felt like coming home.

I miss my Cabayan friends! I once made a lot of Chicken Adobo for Philippines National Day when I was working in UAE. And I miss my best friend so bad.
Thanks this mean alot and again thanks to love India
I first moved to India from Germany to work for a year at a Uni as a language teacher and while preparing I somewhere read that plastic bags are banned (which is why i took 3 huge rolls of trash bags with me) and that you often don't get cuttlery which is why i brought a spork with me wherever i went... like a fricking idiot XD
Well, now I've been living in India for all together 5 years and since i am living in Mumbai I literally never miss anything. We get all kinds of food here from all over the world, you can go to fancy fine dine places or to kickass vada pav stalls on the street, you can shop at cheap indian markets as well as fancy malls. We've got a national park to take a breather in nature. Green places like Alibhaug or Lonavla are not far for weekend getaways. You get to see all international movies cause there is a shitload of movie theatres. You get all kinds of art exhibitions, museums and cultural festivals. I can confidently be out even late at night, even as a woman. there is literally nothing I miss here in regards to comfort and lifestyle. The only thing I'm occasionally missing is my folks at home (obviously) but that's it.
Did I see people shitting on the street, well yeah, driving by a slum, cause these often don't have toilets (the municipalities though are trying to keep up with building public toilets for them, problem is people keep moving in from the rural areas in search for labor so new 'settlements' keep popping up randomly many places),
but frankly, I saw a big fine pile of human shit when accidently getting off the train at Jamaica station in New York, and lets not even talk about all the human shit piles on the street that I barely evaded in LA and SF, so...
Imagine I'd be running around after that telling everyone folks in USA shit in the street everywhere. Lol.
As for sexual assaults, it happened to me once late at night in a quite deserted part of town when I couldn't get a cab to take me home. An obviously drugged (eyes like a squirrel) plastic bottle collector grabbed my ass and followed me.
Guess what, I went to a security guard of a house, asked for help and the good man shooed that guy away and escorted me to the gate of my hotel, asking nothing more but for me to be sure to have some restaurant call a cab for me the next time rather than trying to walk home through a deserted area and to take care.
Of course sexual assault occur. Look at the sheer population of this country, obviously a certain percentage are bound to be jerks/criminals, but not more than anywhere else (just speaking from my personal experience of staying in 4 different continents in 7 different countries).
I think often foreign visitors are not aware or capable of how to tell if a situation is turning shady or not (like me back then) or they don't understand that certain behaviors (handing out your phone number, getting too touchy/smiley with people you just met etc) may be misinterpreted.
And yes, you might also encounter a straightup jerk. But you know what? Don't stay quiet. Throw a ruckus. Chances are (at least in Mumbai) random people will jump to your aid and beat that guy up or at least help you drag them to the police. And PLEASE PLEASE, if something like this happens to you, DO GO TO THE POLICE!
Way too many foreigners who run into something like this write a blog post and give a few interviews so some news get a media scoop but refuse to help the police catch that guy. At least in Mumbai I can assure you people do care for their city's image and they will do what they can to make sure that guy doesn't do it to another person.
Living here I found the vast majority of Indians nothing but welcoming, friendly, helpful and positively curious. And that's not only my impression of Mumbai btw. but of most of the wonderful places I visited here (Pune, Ahmedabad, Indore, Jhodpur, Jaipur, Pushkar, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pondycherry and Mahabalipuram)
Thank you, India, for making me feel so much at home here!
And thank you for this wonderful take on India and for clearing up some misconceptions. Keep it up!

I travelled all over India for 4 months and not once did I face that BS water bottle scam. In fact once I stayed in a cheap guest house in Delhi and it was late night and I asked the staff where i can find bottled water at that time. They offered me water bottle and told me before hand the seal is broken because they use arrow (filtered) water. Drank it and was perfectly fine. Saved my wallet alot drinking arrow water everywhere I went. Really only drank bottled sealed water on trains and busses. Most of the people in India are extremely honest and helpful. I also fell madly in love with India and can't wait to go back again
Just to let you know, it's RO (reverse osmosis), not arrow. Glad you had fun in India! ^_^

Yes there are some beautiful places and people in India, but there is also some very bad places and people just like any country.but my advice to foreigners is that if you go to Delhi or tourist places than you better be ready to be harassed by every one wanting money or to sell you something.and places like Delhi are full of trash and sewage unless you stay in the more rich areas.
There are some really awesome places in India that I love, it's just sad that alot of people including the government are letting those places be destroyed for profit and because people don't care enough about the land

Had a homemade curry with his family. (Oh and a very strong beer.) The myth was that Indian people are racist towards black people. Never experienced that. Well they stare. I've been to India about 20 times now sometimes twice a year for about 1 month+ each time and mainly rural India. It's a fantastic place. The best advice I can give is to learn a few Hindi phrases, smile and say hello (Nameste) to people you meet and deal with. Be polite and open to new experiences. Indians are proud of their country and it's extensive history and are generally happy to explain aspects of it.
Street food is fantastic and particularly safe if you see it deep fried, like samosas. On the road try and eat where the truckers do they go for safe tasty food. India still has retail price maintenance and commodities will have the price printed on the packaging by the manufacturer.
Traveling by train. There is generally a quota of seats reserved for tourist on the longer distance trains. Some journeys can take a long time Delhi to Pune was 27Hrs. Delhi to Sikim was nearly 3 whole days but really cheap by western standards. AC 2 class gets a comfortable sleeper berth with a coach attendant who will organize hot meals to be delivered at various stops.
Taxis/AutoRickshaws Most cities require these to have meters, insist on them being used. If no meter negotiate a price before embarking.
Above all. Relish the change of culture and pace of life the later of which doesn't run on standard time but Indian Flexible Time.
Thank you Sir for your wonderful feedback.. Glad that you enjoyed your experiences in India.
+Chris Craven hello,i agree with all of your points but the trucker and food one. iam a indian and i wouldn't suggest eating street food or in hotels with the truckers(iam not badmouthing them) from my observation they go for cheap and strong food often accompanied by alcohol. when i was younger me and my dad went to eat in a place which is kind of trucker's food place my dad drives a fire vehicles himself(avg sized man and not as heavily built as a lorry driver) guess what we couldn't eat half of what a trucker does and the taste/cleanliness is so so .i would suggest eating street food where employees(techies merchants etc) eat that most probably taste's good(techies dont chow down as much as truckers so they prefer taste over quantity) or just ask a local person for places. well that is as far as my experience goes i dont know the trucker habits in other parts of india(i live in southern part) i think you can take my advice when you are travelling in southern parts of india.good day to you
Valid point, but as I said I've mostly been in rural India where there aren't that many techies. Not been down south so can't comment on the food there. Most of my visits were to the north where the food didn't seem that spicy hot, just spicy delicious.
You can Book rickshaws (tuktuk) and taxis through Ola, Jugnoo type of App.
they will give you a fix price .

I had very spicy food there very regularly. In Mumbai (June), my pants and shoes were melting to me. In Bangalore (June), it was hot, but very tolerable. In Bangalore, I felt very safe. I walked around alone without any problems. I love India. It's such a diverse, vibrant place.

@@krishnkant9477Namaste, we didn't eat street food. I had a lassi at a restaurant. I wonder if the dairy products were unpasteurized? That could have caused the illness. @@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 Then this means either the restaurants wasn't good (have you checked its ratings before eating there?) or you couldn't cope with the effects of too much spices in the food.

I often tell people: DON'T GO TO INDIA. I see many videos lately and they all seem to be click baits. For example, women travelers despite repeatedly being told not to travel in crammed up 3rd class train compartments where people are packed like sardines, do travel and then make videos of being groped even though it would feel the same if you were a man. Or someone decides to play Holi with a bunch of drunk strangers on the street and then complain about being groped. Holi is a festival where there is a fair amount of body contact just like La Tomatina. But that doesn't seem to stop these travelers to do it and then make a video complaining about it. Still some decide to hitchhike at 1 AM in the morning, which you don't do in your country, and then complain of being molested/kidnapped. Some stay in shady places and then complain that someone made unwanted advances towards them etc.
What is common in all these cases is that they make a prompt video and get a million views often with Indian men and women begging for forgiveness for something they haven't done. It also invites a lot of anti-indian bashers. If this is not a click bait, I don't know what is.
So the bottom-line really is that as a traveler you have to learn to be responsible for your own decisions. If you decide to check into a cheap hotel, stay in shady neighborhoods to save money, travel in crammed up compartments to travel cheap, chow down roadside food because its cheap, go out in the middle of the night and hitchhike with strangers, decide to climb up on the edge of buildings to make cool videos and hurt yourself, go to party towns and complain that men are hitting on you, not carrying spare supplies and complain about being ripped off with cheap Chinese counterfeits, AND YOU THINK THAT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR PROBLEMS, THEN PLEASE DO NOT GO TO INDIA. PACK UP AND LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.
And most definitely don't make videos whining (after intentionally putting yourself in a situation despite being told over and over again not to do) to get mouse clicks from Indians. This is an exploitation of their curiosity of their country by constantly spouting negative news so that they come to your channels. The same is done by the western media as well. Its outright DISGUSTING.
My request to ALL Indians. >>>>>>>>>>>
Indians are reaping what they are sowing. If Indians did not flock to websites that are click baits, then we wouldn't be seeing so much negativity. So COMPLETELY STOP going to websites that spout negative information on India. Don't go to those news websites anymore. I am not talking about not viewing a particular article. Just stop going to the website completely. I personally don't read CNN, BBC, Huffington Post, QZ any more.
Have you noticed that travel vlogs have caught up to the same fact that as long as you have some negative news on India, Indians will flock to those channels and beg for forgiveness??? Go to their homepages and see the number of views for their videos. You will see a major spike in the number of views for videos that talk negatively about India. If you see someone making sensationalist videos, completely stop going to their channels. Don't EVER visit those channels again. Just send a clear message.
Similarly there was this one dude who was climbing up to the edge of the walls in Rajasthan and making videos using his drone. When he will fall and hurt himself (which he will at some point -- Murphy's law), then they start blocking off huge sections of the forts because of this guy's stupidity. One person can ruin it for everyone. So I have completely stopped watching any videos of this guy who has no respect for another society.
Here are some video titles on India mostly by Women. These are all travel CHANNELS that want people to flock to their channels and subscribe. While they are there, they ask people to buy their books or their services. Often these channels are more about marketing themselves and selling goods and services rather than just being travel vlogs. Naturally the intention here is to post videos that gets most views.
These results are based on a quick search. I am sure others can find lots more. You may have noticed the titles in uppercase so as to attract attention. The problem is that none of these issues are in anyway specific to India. US postal service for example is notorious for stolen packages or Bureau of Justice statistics show that almost 600 women are raped in the US each day. But since many Indians flock to these channels begging and groveling for forgiveness, its becoming more profitable to keep churning out videos specifically to attract the large Indian viewers. This is the monetization of negativity on India at the expense of Indians.
Now, I don't see these topics on their channels about other countries. Clearly if people are having a horrible time, they would leave. Instead a lot of these people making these videos stay in India for months churning out this content. So while I am all for people expressing their views and sharing their experiences, I believe that the Indians should petition Google to stop monetizing misery and prevent people from profiting from it.

I think I've been ripped off more living in London than on any of my travels or even whilst living in the US. The one time I got robbed I honestly think it was one of my fellow travellers. Generally I find people very friendly and helpful where ever I travel but especially in India to the point of a bit OTT at times. Regards sexual harassment I've had the odd elbow in the breast ?? but the only time I was definitely touched inappropriately was in a train in Morocco - I just stamped on his foot and walked off! I think if something like that happens to you you need to react robustly and/or report it. To be fair most of my travels in India have been with a group but the few times I have travelled there on my own I did not have a problem. The one thing that makes me a bit sad about India is the creeping westernisation and obsession with money/things. On my last trip in 2017 (on the Manali to Leh highway) our lovely Indian driver was telling us how a lot of the gurus are becoming movie stars or rich business men. Modernisation is one thing but too much westernisation not good. Don't lose your spirituality India - its what makes you special
Janet Bray every country has it's two sides of coin but we have several.
Janet Bray I would appreciate if there was awareness in people to call it Sanatan Sanskriti or Vedic Dharma. Sanatan Sanskriti is repository of knowledge with human evolution. This evolved with the time and yug (kaal).
1. The place between Himalaya in north to indu sarovar (Indian ocean) is called Hindu. Himalya Hi and Indu. Makes the word Hindu. Used for geographic demarcation. Hindu kush mountain Hindu river called as Sindhu river all indicated the sanskrit origin of the word. But yes doesn't indicate religion but Geographic. Hindustan is a pure sanskrit origin word. Read the puran. The muslim invaders tried to demean the word Hindu with many bad words to show them down and paint them as bad people. This is how racist jokes are created.
2. Since Dharma evolved and led humans from darkness to light from ignorance to knowledge. "tamso ma jyotirgamaya". There was no other religion to compete So there is no name, no rules for bashing other religion and concept of conversion. You can't bash criticize or compete non existent.
3. This is why got more than 1400 books scriptures on various topics helpful in material and spiritual life and this knowledge evolved with time.
4. Ayurvda, Medicine, Vyakrna, Natyashashtra, state crafts, yagya hawan ritual, philosophy, astrology, Jyotish, poetics, sangita shastra, yoga, Veda,Vedanta, Puran, Mimansa architecture mathematics to name a few. Books are available on every aspect of human brain can imagine in such a detail that only one book Mahabharat contains one lakh shlokas.
5. In short Dharma is celebration of the diversity of Human knowledge.
6. We as a layman only know about Dharma as a blind man knows about elephant after holding the tail of the elephant.
7. Most of us are only able to know what we see on daily basis like nature and creation worship. And on the basis of this we criticize and appreciate dharma. But Dharma criticize none. Dharma don't give scope for criticism but enlightenment and seeking truth .
8. There is so much more to know. Since I am born in a Dharma followers family. Therefore I celebrate the diversity of human thoughts with ease. Dose not mean i know everything. But once you will know Dharma out of the set criteria of Abrahamic religion for Dharma. You will find nothing to criticize like a blind man holding an elephant tail and saying why he is made to hold a snake. Instead of criticism You will question and seek answers.
9. For example when you see a survivor on discovery eating dead animal poo and pee either you appreciate or criticize this. But no one can deny that this human will survive the odd. And Dharma have a complete set of philosophy and practicing sect called aghori. However a few. To make sure that the human will survive the extreme. Human will not die out because of the certain dogmas made by the so called civilized society or religion. Dharma supports all accommodates all.
10. Religion ends at heaven and hell only but the Dharma gives to strive even beyond this. That's Moksha complete liberation.
11. If someone adopts Sanatan dharma way of life. He automatically fits into the either Varna Vyavstha Brahman Kshatriya Vaishya Shudra according to profession or Ashram Vyavstha Brahmacharya Grihasth Vanprasth and Sanyas. Together its called Varnashram Vyavstha for the benefit of the society. I can enlighten you on this vedic Varnashram vayvstha. Mail me
Varna division start from us. Our head is our brahma to control our shoulders are our kshatriya to protect us our stomach is our vysya to feed us and our foot are our shudra to serve us.
Another term division of profession. Which exists all over the world in different forms. And this is most scientific division of profession to avoid conflict in society. This Varna can be achieved by your Karma. To fit into Ashram one has nothing to do. Fits in naturally and can stay in any of the phase as long as he wants.
Now it depends on us that we respect equally to our teacher and our toilet cleaner. Which Dharma clearly says respect each and every thing. This is why worship for all not only to teachers. So if you respect your teacher and toilet cleaner equally you are a great Dharmik person. Now where you see fault in this varna system. Lots of Rishi were not born in cast Brahman but respected worshipped. For details you mail me. Cast seems a tribal identity with all the evils of Ego and depends totally an individual local social environment no support from Dharma
12. Sanatan Dharma allow an individual to seek truth, follow a path or make his her own path to reach the goal of 'Brahma" the energy and consciousness of the Universe. The feeling of अहं ब्रह्मास्मी, I am the consciousness makes one enlighten and तत् त्वमसी, so are you makes you a Guru.
This is the reason encouraged many enlightened soul to find and make their own path. Thus Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism, sant parampra like Kabir, Ravidas etc were born without any conflict. Dharma allowed them to propagate and flourish
13. Comparing Dharma with one book one prophet religion is not a good idea. Can only increase ignorance. Because books of mazhab are small simple and for that for the followers of that particular mazhab only. So better study the world's oldest surviving civilization based on Dharma with universal application, yourself. अहं बर्हमासमी l तत त्वं असी. सर्वे जना:सुखिनो भवन्तु. सर्वे सन्तु निराम्या:l वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम l
Thank you☺️

I'm American, and LOVE India now! I have been there twice in the last two years and returning for my 3rd trip in a few months, I can't WAIT. It is crazy, there is insane traffic, SO many people in many of the cities, it's noisy, there are horns honking all day and all night, you can't cross the streets easily, there are cows and cow dung, men urinate in public against city walls, everybody stares at you, but there are a million amazing and wonderful things that completely outweigh the bad. I just want to see everything, it's addictive as hell. Thanks for this video, you are spot-on correct from what I experienced about it all as well.
I appreciate your comment is totally honest , I am an Indian and I know , a population of 1.3 Billion and around 40 % poorly educated has so many people who behave in undesirable manners. But yes there are people who can be nice 🙏🙏
Thanks for such a positive comment
I'm not offended by your comment because it's true. We'll make India clean, we have already started this mass movement. I hope when you'll visit next time, you'll be able to see clean India and don't forget to visit north east India next time.
Go to kerala state dude you would.love it... house boat ride is very beautiful...
Population control ka bhi policy bohot banaya gaya, expectations bhi kia tha lakin hua toh nahi, neutralized year 35 se 74 ho gaya. Accha hai, maze lo aur dher sare bacche paida karo. Assam ka policy bhi sahi hai, 2se jyada live bacche hai toh sarkari nokri nahi milegi 😂😂😂😂
Psycho traveller I hope you'll do a vlog about the Philippines, too. Most media describe my country as derogatorily as they do to India.
Some places in Manila like India too, but not in the provinces of Philippines
Yeah i hear That there are doing it because they are jealous of our countries
Very True, India is a very diverse country!!!....We have like more than 2000 languages. India is a country where people of more than 8 religions live happily. I am very glad you experienced it. Thanks for this video.
Khan Khan you looks like happy bro!!!
Khan Khan I understand all these issues man!! and I am glad u mentioned these issues!!!... And if ur indian please respect our indian army. Whatever happened with sikhs that time was not done by indian army... some people whoever dey b and I consider dem terrorists. But problems are everywhere but india is far better den many places, I don't like comparing with any other country but still people here are living happily that's what I believe..
nobody visit to the country of terrorist PAKISTAN
Khan Khan well minorities are not very happy in ummah countries aswell
Khan Khan Sikhs aren't marginalised anymore. They used to be during the 1984-85 period but that's 30 years ago. Times have changed. As for Chrisitians, they aren't marginalised either. Just because of a few incidents, you can't classify a population of millions as marginalised. As for Muslims, it's only the northern states and rural areas where it is a problem with RSS and other elements attacking Muslims. Otherwise it's fine. The simple thing is people overestimate communal problems in India. I live in a building with 3 Muslim households, a Sikh home and a large Chrisitan family and many Hindu families. I have grown up with Hindu, Muslim, Christian friends alike. Here you don't classify each other as Hindu, Muslim, Christian. Whoever you are by religio, you are afterall an Indian. Obviously no country is without communal arguements, rivalry or violence. India has it, Bangladesh has it, Pakistan has it. Heck even USA and China have it. Unless one lives in J&K which has high militant influence, he or she feels like an Indian, and has a belonging towards their country. And this comes from an Indian Muslim.
Iam an indian.. Even i dont know my country its huge.. Differnt culture differnt languages from state to state.. Its like moving from one country to another😂

I am from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 i never visited India but i have heard about those facts about India,Sri Lankan tv channel update us about India about good things also bad things, and we watch Indian movies so we have a knowledge about their culture and way they live , as i know Indian government is struggling to make those wrong things right.. Indian people are so kind and friendly but some of them are not, thats ok that's what expect when considering its a big country .. People need to understand themselves that keeping their country clean is the key to keep their country beautiful.. And respect womens, and respect to the law more than they do (i mentioned low because i had saw lot of times people are beating to the police officers many times on the tv).
