I have traveled India from the Himalayas to Kaniyakumari for the past 25 years. Mostly I have traveled with groups and friends, and twice by myself. I have witnessed the moral downfall coming little by little. Now is an avalanche, out of control. My worst experiences have been in Agra, Jaipur and Delhi. Mostly scammers and very aggressive men. The state I have felt the most safe is Tamil Nadu. I have never experienced any sort of inappropriate behavior from anyone. Kerala is also quite safe. My advice to young solo female travelers: NEVER visit India alone if you don't know India very well. NEVER go alone unless you stay in very safe places with people you know. When I traveled twice by myself (2014 and 2023) I stayed in ashrams and spiritual communities where I know people, I know are safe places to stay and very peaceful and loving environment. For female travelers go to India only in groups from reputed and well known travel agencies.

India has many beautiful places to visit and normal people and their culture is really great and unique. Just plan your trip keeping Safety a top priority. That means no outing on nighttime, don't go to a market area alone, have a local friend/person who will help you purchase stuffs for actual price. Also, if you're a woman then don't come. I have been to Sri Lanka a couple of times and noticed many female travelers. The craziest thing I've seen was when a young solo traveler slept in our dorm room-literally three guys and her. She was too tired and slept immediately.....didn't talk at all... only helped her with Locker to get her stuff safe ... gave it back in the morning and left. Didn't wanna make her uncomfortable by asking my curious questions. Like, girl .... how brave are you? I only knew she was Brit, of course from her accent. Sri Lanka may be so close to India and have similarities but one thing became clear to me that day......Sri Lankans are more civilized, respectful, and generally nice. That's why solo female travelers can behave like that. Plus, Cleaner.
One question : do u think single Indian women in new york street roaming to unknown places will feel safe or not ? Sorry to hear about your experience.. My girlfriend (white french) and I (korean american) traveled to india/pakistan last year. We did everything ourselves with no tour and only ate and hang around local places. Surprisingly we weren't harassed much. I think you are right. If you are a white female solo traveling, you will probably get harassed more. We did get approached everyday but they leave us after we tell them to f*ck off. We don't really blame the individual people harassing us but the shit system and education these people grew up with. Because to be honest we went to wealthy areas in new delhi and it was the exact opposite. people were very kind and no one was bothering you. No one staring, no one trying to sell you stuff. It just tells you the significant discrepancies in a population. I just hope things improve in india so that future tourists don't deal with such pain. I also heavily blame your tour guides. I can't believe they took you too areas where you would get harassed more. That is a terrible red flag... Next time, check out northern india like srinagar and ladakh! It is very beautiful and people are kind. And pakistan! We loved it there so much. Although parts of lahore and karachi you might face similar issue. I’m from the UK (I’m not White, if that makes any difference), and I was wanting to travel to Hyderabad for medical treatment, more specifically the area of Manikonda, would you say that state and city is dangerous too? Or is it a case or I should take safety precautions, like no going out late at night and I’d be relatively “ok”?
I am Indian, During college days I did event management, there was one event in dhule in maharashtra. It is a remote village in India. Very poor area. My task was to handle food and beverages. But after some time there was one foreign girl standing, whole village about 40-50 people surrounded her asking for photos, tiktok, even the security guard was also not able to defend so, me and other 4 people were protecting so that no one come close to her. Most of the people living small towns and villages are like that only. Indian government seriously should take action or bring some laws to tackle these problems.

As an Indian, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this video. As someone who comes from the Himalayan part of India, which is much more civilized and peaceful than any part of mainland India, I find it extremely suffocating to travel to places like Delhi. Not only are the people extremely dishonest, but the place is equally disgusting and filthy. You can't trust anyone here. Even the people you've paid will be dishonest and always want more money. A woman from the US was scammed in Jaipur for fake jewelry, and when she came back, they refused to even recognize her. The same filth is being imposed on the good parts of India, like mine. At least you have the option to leave, but unfortunately, I'm not so lucky. Most foreign UA-camrs who come to India try to paint a very false and rosy picture of this hellhole just for views and subscribers, misleading people in many ways. Don't focus on negative comments. The truth can't be hidden in this age of social media, so make sure that your message is received by the public the way you intend.
That's what I was about to type Himalayan People especially Uttrakhand and Himachal people are indeed sensitive and hospitable. But Civic sense is missing in India in general.
@daI I am from those places too. You'll see tourists coming to our places and they've entirely different opinions of India. No one is scamming them, no one is running to rape or molest them or asking for any photographs and environment is different than rest of India. How could a 'Key' opening your door just be a misunderstanding? I really wanted to visit Manali with my wife. But I feel like we'll never be able to handle India with the thin patience I have.
I have visited the Himalayan regions a couple years ago and I can say it's much safer as it's largely brimming with tourists and is a spiritual region overall. I'd just highly suggest booking a 4 star or above hotel (3 star if the reviews are good) and book your driver through the hotel itself. I have personally never faced an issue then. Just please make sure to live in good highly rated hotels. I generally avoid anything rated below 4 out of 5 at all costs. Also I will absolutely suggest not to go to Delhi and Rajasthan, I avoid it like a plague as it is largely filled with a patriarchal mindset and no matter what will be a deeply uncomfortable place. If you truly want to visit the mountains of India without any issues as Manali would have them too, I would suggest just going to the North East. Arguably the safest in India.
I’m so devastated to hear what terrible things happened to you. You are absolutely doing the right thing by sharing your honest experiences about how everyday tourist situations, in broad daylight didn’t prevent the harassment. Phoebe I am so sorry to hear about your bad experience in India. Glad at the end you are ok. The most important. If you’re thinking of travelling to Asia again, you can consider visiting China. Rich in culture/ history as well as friendly/nice people. It’s very safe too as a solo traveler no matter if it’s day or night. Anyway, have a good rest back home and you take care. As someone with a indian origin, i can agree, i was able to visit Shenzen and Shanghai and also some rural parts and people in China were very friendly and polite. I thought because of my indian looks people would be racist but i was pleasantly surprised and China was really great! Cheers!
I wonder why their governments do not issue travel warnings when so many tourists have had horrifying experiences for many years now during their visits in India.
Yea! I can imagine, as a man who has been backpacking across India since 2012 I can say that people's civic sense is improving but slowly. Small town really need to learn about personal space, hygiene and morals. It's better to visit just the Tier 1 and 2 cities max 3.

For female travelers go to India only in groups from reputed and well known travel agencies.

fast forward to traveling alone for the next 10 times , photos etc yes , but im not backward in coming forward , i find that the pack mentality was usually from north India .
Unfortunately in Goa , there are so many domestic tourists , the local Goan men would not do this , this behavior would be Domestic Indian tourists , who tend to travel in packs .

Kind regards

When coming to India as a solo female traveler just visit Kerala don’t visit any other state. Me being a Keralite will never go to North India alone as a tourist.
@@tech9896 Kerala is no less. Plz sit down. Been there done that. And i didn't like Kerala either in that respect.
@@mirahindustani North sanghi spotted 😂. Even in this video she says that she first visited Kerala and that’s the main reason why she thought of exploring more of India. Kerala is one of the most beautiful place in India also it is ranked 3rd which is above Switzerland in natural beauty index. So nobody needs your opinion anyways. Please sit down 🤣
We don't need your certification. She already said in the video that rest of India except kerala is not safe for visit. @@mirahindustani

@@bobsmith3983 You’re the one who replied to my comment it’s not the other way around. Cope harder 🤣
Very sad to hear you had a bad experience in India. India is such a beautiful country with lot of cultural experience to savour. Wishing you all the best for your future travels. Continue to post your videos it's very helpful.
God bless you for your honesty & you should never apologise for telling the truth. I'm from Australia and a solo traveller too & India was the next place I've been researching to go to, but after your video, I will not be doing this on my own so thank you for saving me from going through that but I'm so sorry that you had to 😢. You wouldn't think that in 2024 that stuff still happens. I haven't watched all your videos but if you haven't gone to Dubai, please do. I felt safer in Dubai than when I travel in Oz lol. ❤
But things are getting worse Because anything that touches cow belt culture or its people, turns to dust.

How could a 'Key' opening your door just be a misunderstanding? I really wanted to visit Manali with my wife. But I feel like we'll never be able to handle India with the thin patience I have.
I thought the same thing...
As someone who has been wondering about doing a solo female trip to India I sincerely appreciate your insight. Thank you for your honesty and I hope that these disgusting trolls stop harassing you.
Thanks for sharing this. So brave of you for speaking up. I’m an Indian woman living in Mumbai and I feel very angry towards the men who stoop so low and make women uncomfortable.
If you plan to travel to Asia, it is recommended to go to China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. A woman alone is highly discouraged from going to India, at least staying in a rich area.
Mumbai is an okayish place, but in Delhi the men just look at you like they are about to grpe any moment.
Cheers from Macau, China.
As someone with a indian origin, i can agree, i was able to visit Shenzen and Shanghai and also some rural parts and people in China were very friendly and polite. I thought because of my indian looks people would be racist but i was pleasantly surprised and China was really great! Cheers!
and most importantly the food was great haha
I wonder why their governments do not issue travel warnings when so many tourists have had horrifying experiences for many years now during their visits in India.
Yea! I can imagine, as a man who has been backpacking across India since 2012 I can say that people's civic sense is improving but slowly. Small town really need to learn about personal space, hygiene and morals. It's better to visit just the Tier 1 and 2 cities max 3.
