This is one of my favorite razors, and I use it more than any of my others. I liked the aggressive AL 13 so much that I bought the Ti22 version of it. I have all levels of aggression in the AL 13 razor and they are all fantastic. I have never had a clogging issue with this razor. It is truly a unique razor in wet shaving, and I am glad to have it.
I can't wait to try a Razor Emporium soap and splash, it's next on my list of soaps to try.

If you want to try a product from Razor Emp, try Rex 1955. Real man's lather in terms if thickness but just a mile fresh natural smell. It has side effect of making my bathroom smell cleaner too. I live my AL13+. Only have two other DEs : Rockwell 6s (i bought 2s, bought 2 more heads) and Wilkerson butterfly. I am deeply tempted to get Henson AL-13+++ but don't really have a heavy beard. My Henson AL-13+ is my everyday shave.

I purchased this last week and can’t look back at my decision. I’m somewhat of a noob to DE razors, I’ve tried a few over the years but have alway struggled with shaving my tash. This sounds silly but for the best part of two months I would use my shavette as I felt more confident with it and then would use a normal Gillette multi cartridge for my upper lip. I saw numerous account raving about the Henson and ignored it as one reviewer put me off it and a lot of the comments and videos began to look sponsored. After doing more research and learning about the existence of the aggressive model I decided to settle with it and ordered one. I think initially the mildness people go on about deterred me from it. After shaving with the +++ a couple of times now I have to admit that I’m in love with it. The knurling is super grippy and comfortable, finding the perfect angle is fool proof and the weight; contrary to what I thought (SS is better) is perfect. I can’t believe how efficient this safety razor is. It’s definitely worth the hype, but I must admit, labelling it as aggressive is overkill. I’m not speaking from experience but I’d say the best option is to buy the mild for body shaving, the medium for head shaving and the aggressive for stubble.

A thin lather can still work, and work very well. A few occasions my lathers were thin and the shaves were just as effective as for any of my normal lathers. One wants to at least have ENOUGH lather to help keep the face and hairs wet. The trouble comes in when you do not have enough lather.

A nephew tipped me off about the Henson razors when I gave up on cartridge razors. I bought a medium, which worked well, then couldn't resist trying the mild, before I realized blades make a difference. Wife now owns my mild Henson. After seeing this, I just might have to spring for the aggressive Henson, now that I am more proficient at shaving. I am always surprised at how many people do not know there are several models of efficiency with the Hensons, so end up buying the mild by default and are not happy with its lack of efficiency. I really do not understand why Henson recommends mild as their standard, instead of the medium, which I feel would make a lot more people happy with results.

I'm always amazed at Matt's lather. I cannot get it like that out of the tub so I used a ceramic mixer bowl. (That's also nice to use, with an electric coffee warmer, for hot lather if you like that.) Is that a real badger brush or synthetic? Because my synthetic cannot do that on my face. P.S. I can vouch for RE shave soaps. After trying a few from Zingari Man, Wholly Kaw and Murphy and McNeil for pure shave quality Razor Emporium's is really good and affordable. But my favorite for scent is absolutely Murphy and McNeil's "Tobac Fanaile" with matching aftershave cream and cologne.

My first ever DE razor was a Henson AL13 Mild. It was the perfect razor for me to transition from a cartridge. I have a moderately course beard with sensitive skin so it was perfect for me. I can dial the shave up or down depending on the blade I choose. Yes, I have even used a Feather blade in it. I have the original version; they have made, I believe, 6 improvements to it.
I still use it occasionally for nostalgia sake. My favourite razor is the Karve Overlander - aluminum version. It’s more efficient than the mild Henson, has a better grip, has incredible lather channels, and has optimal handle lengths.
So there you have it, I have a whopping 2 razors in my collection.
I have a special place in my heart for my Henson.

@@robertross8565 I definitely suffer from what you call RAD 🤣. In my opinion, the Henson Ti22 +++ compares very closely to the Karve Overlander in efficiency and it's very smooth. If the mild isn't efficient enough for you I highly recommend the aggressive version as Matt stated. The design is near perfect for a DE razor.
I also like the Karve Overlander so much that I recently purchased a polished stainless steel version of it from Razor Emporium. Razor Emporium polished the SS Overlander perfectly, it is absolutely flawless. It is the best looking razor in my entire collection. How would you compare the Henson AL13, AL13-M, and the Aggressive AL13 to the Mühle R89 and R41? Looking for something close to the R89. I should never have bought the R41! It will give me a very close shave but at the cost of irritation that keeps me from shaving for a couple of days. I would like to try one of the Hensons but not sure which one of their milder razors. My second razor from my time with wet shaving was the henson mild, fantastic beginner razor but i found i out grew it really quickly, also i think that if a razor is too mild you tend to press harder which for me causes more irritation to the skin. my collection has grown now quite considerably but i think ill get a +++ henson but i will mill out the handle and fill it with lead to give it some heft. The brush dick-slap during the lather is classic Matt! I do like the Henson, the AL13 and the Ambassador are my go-to razors!
BTW - I disagree with what you said about the REX being able to knock down a beard without clogging, that is completely unfair and untrue. I once did with a Gillette Platinum blade, every stroke I had to unscrew to unload the hair. It was a test to see if it was possible, never doing it again. Clippers first and then a wet shave.

Drats! I would have bought my aggressive Henson's from your site had i known you carried it! I thought i found a lucky find wherever i got it since the Henson aluminum aggressive isn't on their site! Was a feather artist club straight user till i started with a DE chinese Futur knockoff. Then wanted a Henson and figured "aggressive"would be the level I'd want. Watched you shave several times and again, should have supported you. I'll buy some of your soup! You sell pucks right?

I've been using a Henson med ti for almost a year. I've tried a bunch of different soaps, blades, and techniques. I have found that a Persona blade is the best for me. Here's what I don't get, why do the heavy lather? I get a better shave with a thin layer of soap that is very wet. Does anyone else find this to be the same? Also, lots of pressure with the Henson works best for me.

I have the new AL13++ medium and have trouble getting it to actually cut the most coarse hair of my goatee area. I almost wonder if it is because of the tight blade gap and the fact my hairs grow in so many directions and have thick hairs. Anyone else have this trouble or suggestions?

    • @keithosmond5730

Try more pressure. Not something I generally suggest with DEs, but with the AL13 you can apply almost cartridge-level pressure without risk.

I will vouch for the slickness of RE soaps. I am not typically reaching for vegan soaps, but there's is VERY good. I didn't bond with the Henson because I felt that you had to have a perfect angle to make it work...no very forgiving, for me. Others rave about them.

    • @keithosmond5730
      @keithosmond5730 Рік тому

The angle is built right into the head... how can you not find it? Easiest DEs there are to find the right angle. You can also use cartridge-like pressure and not get nicks. There are razors I like better, but in terms of ease of use and forgiveness of bad tehnique, few are better.

    • @johnr3265
