A very well designed and well built razor that I just can't seem to get a good shave from. I've tried both the ++ and the +++, and they both failed to give me a clean close shave in one pass. Razors that can, are the Blackbird, Lupo .72, Yaqi Romulus, and Ever Ready Streamline. But the Henson is a three pass razor, and I am a one pass shaver. The Henson is a good razor that simply does not suit my shaving needs. So it goes.
Good job Geo🪒🪒 The comparison between the three different razors was spot on, really heard the difference. Great video, thanks. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thanks, I'm glad the vid was beneficial. All the best to you and your family in 2024.
Unusually business like presentation from geo. Most times you get jokes, big smiles, light hearted banter. Hope all is well Geo. Thanks for all the great work you do for us we shavers. Best wishes to you and your loved ones for Christmas and 2024.
External forces at work that day I guess.. It happens to all of us sometimes. Thanks and all the best to you and yours in 2024.
Awesome job breaking them down Geo! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Thank you very much and All the best to you and yours in 2024.
Merry Christmas to you and your family Geo. Thanks for all the content this year
Thanks so much! All the best to you and yours in 2024.
Great video Geo. Love the comparison. Almost like using a adjustable razor. I may have to order one or two. Thanks for the great videos this year and keep them coming in 2024. Have a great holiday season. 👍🎅🎄
Thanks very much William. All the best to you and your family in 2024.
Geo,what a fantastic job man! Great way of displaying the different levels of aggression. I hope you and your family have a Very Merry Christmas!
Thanks very much! All the best to you and yours in 2024.
*Wishing Geo and his family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎄⛄🎅*
Thanks very much Ice! All the best to you and your family in 2024.
Loved the comparison video Geo! Happy Holidays🎄
Thank you-All the best to you and yours in 2024!
@@geofatboyThank you Geo! Happy 2024!🥳
An informative comparison. I should have gotten the ++ version. I'm a daily shaver but I do find my + version comes in handy when I've had a shave that caused irritation. Fortunately, with my Rockwell 6S, those shaves are rare. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thanks for sharing Bart! Good stuff.
Merry Christmas Geo🎄🙏🏼💪🏼
Thanks! All the best to you and yours in 2024.
I got the mild in July, my first safety razor. Really enjoy it. Shave just about daily and it does good work
Great! Thanks for sharing
Im confussed.... hensin website only shows mild and medium. The only option for +++ is the titanium for $250.
Seems odd that a reseller has an option the factory doesnt offer.
?
Que video chevere Geo! Feliz navidad de Guayama P.R! Wepa! ❤😊
Muchas gracias por ver y comentar. Todo lo mejor para ti en 2024.
Merry Christmas! Have a great shave! Have a great day!
You know it! All the best to you and yours in 2024 and beyond!
Greetings Geo - love the all of the videos and I have learned so much!! Been wet shaving for a while but it’s always nice to pick up tips and keep abreast of new products.
I normally use a Rockwell T2 on a 3 setting for my everyday shave. I’m considering a Hansen razor… in your opinion, which Hansen (+,++,+++) would be closest to my Rockwell?
Appreciate your recommendation and keep the videos coming!
Thanks for the positive thoughts. T2 on 3 would likely line up with the Henson Medium. bit.ly/HensonAL13RazorSN
I’m going to buy from you the Henson titanium at the end of January plus a red shave bowl too. I’m in the uk and last time I bought from you it came in around 7 days that is great,
Atb and have a great Christmas
Paul
Sounds good. Sometimes they gt to the UK even quicker. Enjoy!
The medium and aggressive are really close in their sounds. Seems like the aggressive is just a notch more efficient than the medium. However, the difference between medium and mild is very noticeable. I have the mild but I am getting the medium now. The mild is not a bad razor at all but I find myself needing to do multiple strokes on each area during each pass. That is leading to many nicks as I am taking off more and more skin with each stroke. So, medium seems like the better choice. I was thinking of getting a Rockwell over the Henson but the Henson is just so intuitive. Henson is basically a safety razor with the ease of use of a cartridge razor. I don't have to think much when using the Henson.
The galloping bass heavy metal intro is the best!
It sounds like Stranger in a Strange Land by Iron Maiden
Love it!
Great video Geo. What version would be most comparable, aggression wise, to the Mühle R89?
I'd say the Medium: bit.ly/HensonAL13RazorSN
Excellent comparative shave Geo. If possible, please compare the Yaqi tile 316 SS with Henson medium and aggressive. Thanks
Hmmm, I don't own that one.
Love my Henson, i hope they come out with a stainless version that would be a little less $$ than the ti ! ❤
Fingers crossed!
I'm new, which size do u recommend? My favorite over the years has been mach 3 Fusion. I only shave once every other week. I trim a bit around nose but I have a nose trimmer.
Good morning Mr. Geo! I hope you have a great Christmas & a Happy, safe, and prosperous New Year!
Thanks so much! All the best to you and yours in 2024.
Good video Geo! You think that aggressive +++ could hang with the R41? I only shave twice a week. Sunday and Wednesday. R41 is what I’ve been using but looking for something new…could it be the triple +???
No way- The bit.ly/MuhleR41RazorSN still wins out!
Snagged the +++ from Shave Nation. Fast shipping and a great razor
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Which aggression level would you say is comparable to a red tip super speed?
I’d love to see a blind test with these razors to see if anyone can actually tell a difference. Maybe even a collab with other wet shavers, and have everyone rank what they believed to be the most mild to the most aggressive.
Why I never saw a review of the bic platinum blade with your henson razor? It look to me a good choise for me
You can see the Bic blades used in some of my other (600) videos. ua-cam.com/users/geofatboy
I have the medium Henson. It's not my favorite but it's serviceable with a Gillette platinum blade.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Will you publish the Christmas shaving?
A bit later in the day but I sure did: ua-cam.com/video/jL9H4dLFB7A/v-deo.htmlsi=QOJzmp09QT0xROKb
Love my MERKUR 34C. But I've just stripped my second head thread. It's like the screws too small. I have very sensitive skin and fair skin. Would the hensen be good for me thanks
Keep it clean, oil it, and don't tighten it too much!
I purchased a Henson + when I started shaving with a DE razor again at age 69. Today the Henson sits collecting dust in my shave den, I was grtting far too many nicks with the Henson +?. II found the Yates SS 921-M.....finding the Yates the better razor for my use. Rarely get a nick using the Yates 921-M.
Maybe the mildness and light weight had you working too hard. My entry into DE shaving was via the ++; I now also have the +++ and about 50 others (I fell waaay down the rabbit hole) and rarely get any nicks or stings from the alum using these two. The ++ in particular is my autopilot razor.
Have to say, though - I've heard nothing but good things about the Yates 921-M. The price point is the only reason I have yet o buy one.
Thanks for sharing.... I'm not familiar with those razors.
Thanks for sharing Keith!
In the case of Rockwell, you could change the base plates (safety bars) and the top cap would be the same. But, Hanson says that it can't be done with their products, because the top cap is not universal, there is a top cap for each type of razor, you can't use one top cap and just change base plates, it simply doesn't fit (the top cap).
Your 'playing on the beard' is genius. Yes, we could hear the sound difference between the different lengths of the beard.
Agreed on the Henson since the angle and design varies from mild to medium to aggressive. I'm glad you were able to pick up the subtle sound differences in the amount of stubble remaining after the shave with each razor.
Thanks for the comparison. Nice razor, quite comfortable for all skill levels, but I sorta wish Henson offered a '++++' for even more efficiency.
Just wondering (at 9m38s). Why do you suggest using a mild razor on later parts of a shave? Is it to give your face a rest from the earlier trauma? It would seem using a mild, less-efficient razor at this stage might encourage using more pressure and risking razor burn. Perhaps one would need to use the most aggressive option (used very gently) to clear out any persistent beard stubble, instead of doing a 'pick-up pass' at the very end. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!
I wonder if pairing the +++ with a less aggressive blade may be a happy medium...
@@alherch For myself, the '+++' option, while fairly comfortable, isn't as efficient as I like (even with a Feather blade).
I've never understood going milder on subsequent passes. You're trying to pick up wht was missed, so going milder seems counter-intuitive. With an adjustable, if I change the settings on subsequent passes, I go up, not down. As JohnShaves101 puts it, if you're mowing your lawn and the first pass wasn't close enough, you lower the mower - not raise it.
Once you've removed the bulk of the beard the mild razor provides a nice smooth finishing pass. That's my take, you gotta do whats best for you though. Try it a few different ways and see what you think. ++++? Are you listening Henson?
@@geofatboy I've done it both ways; for me, if I dial down I don't get the remaining stubble - not without razor burn. But like you say, what works best for one person may not work for another.
I use a medium++ as a daily driver. Works excellent for me. I got it from you. Nice shave. Right at BBS every day with a perma sharp super blade. Is there a difference with the perma sharp super and the perma sharp? I see the regulars all the time but rarely see the Supers.
Oh I use 2 pass shaves. WTG and ATG.
I'm glad you like it for a 2 passer! Regarding the Perma-Sharps-It sounds like a Showdown Video in the making!
@@geofatboy make it so. ☺️
Someone did a comparison on B&B. They are the same.
I have a Ti-22 + Would you consider it equal to the A-13 ++ in aggression? I've always wondered. Thanks in advance.
The heftier weight might just kick it up into the next category with the AL 13 ++
hello I wanna say thank you for your videos I watch your videos since 2017 and I want to ask a question my beard is very dense and when I wanna shave my beard First Pass is easy but second pass against my skin is very difficult have irritation my skin has residence against shaving and I have on my skin blood and irritation . i try both doubl edge safty razor and cartridge razor exatly in your way. I wanna solution what should I do? please help me.
Try going Across the Grain of your beard for your second pass instead of Against the Grain. If you need a third pass then try Against the Grain. Another suggestion is use a pre-shave product to help add some protection before you lather up. Geo has a couple videos regarding Against the Grain or Trouble Spots. Check them out!
@@alherch thnx
Try applying a good shavenation.com/collections/pre-shave before every pass. It will help improve your shave.
I got the medium when they first came out. Very disappointed with it. Im Leary about getting the aggressive version.
Maybe the bit.ly/HensonAL13RazorSN Version 2 Aggressive would suit you better?
Hey Geo! Would you pick the Henson over the Merkur 34C if you had to pick one?
I've had the 34C for many years and I'm not letting go of it!
Thanks for your input. I've bought several razors just exploring. The Twig, Merkur Futr and Weshi. I always end up going back to old faithful Merkur 34C.@@geofatboy
What happens if you use one that is too aggressive? I would assume just buy the most aggressive of the 3, and then shave carefully?
You may irritate your skin...
I’d like to shave every 4 to 5 days which one should I use?
This one: shavenation.com/products/henson-al13-safety-razor-mild-or-medium
I recently bought a Henson. Its my first safety razor. I didnt find the shave to be. Ery. Lose and support suggested a try an aggressive blade. I did that and found no difference. I ordered the medium henson, tried a mild and medium blade and noticed no difference with the mild henson. It seems like the only rhing that makes a difference is having a fresh blade for every shave. Still not as close of a shave as a cartridge, but acceptable.
Did you try the aggressive version?
@@geofatboy I did not see an aggressive being offered.
Aside from that, if a medium razor with a medium blade cuts the same as the mild razor with the mild blade, would an aggressive razor make any difference?
How do they compare to the feather AS-D2 razor in terms of aggressiveness?
bit.ly/FeatherASD2SRazorandStandSN The Med version will be similar.
@@geofatboythanks 👍
Is it glue holding the blades to the paper wrapper? I always thought it was just a few drops of hot wax that then hardens and acts as an adhesive.
And why do some blade manufactures do this??? The blades are already snugly enclosed in a form fitting box.
@@borbetomagus I have heard it is to eliminate even the slight movement of blade against paper, as that, over time, can reduce the blade's sharpness. Given how far they travel to get to us, and, with some of us, how often they sit in a drawer that is regularly opened and closed before being used, that could be a lot of rubbing.
@@keithosmond5730After opening a fresh Feather blade, your explanation seems most likely as the edge from the glued/waxed blade is secured about 1-2mm from the edges of the folded wax paper wrapper. I wonder if the glue/wax residue issue could be removed if Feather made a multi-square 'S' cut in the wax paper wrapper and threading the separate halves of the paper cuts through the center cavity of the blade. Just hold blade on edges after unwrapping and pull up to unthread. A singular 'S' cut would probably fail since the blade could rotate in transit allowing opposing corner edges to touch the wrapper. Still, my 'solution' would involve is a lot more cost than the current working option.
Either or... In my opinion both are annoying and increase the chances of cutting yourself when removing the blade from the paper...
How would you rate them against the Rockwell plates?
*Maybe* '+' is similar to the R1-R2, '++' similar to the R3-R4, and '+++' similar to the R5-R6.
No, the 1 and 2 plates are milder than the Mild+. The 1 and 2 plates does not really shave imo.
Can’t wait to hear what Geo has to say about that (Henson aggressiveness compared to the Rockwell plates)
I really wanted to like those razors, but it requires you to keep a very specific angle in order to cut instead of pull the facial hair and it was difficult to get a good shave without irritation or ingrown hairs.
I’ve been having this exact issue with irritation. Any advice?
@@joeyglasser2574 Idk I even tried the special blades made for the razor and it didn’t work for me. I ended up trying out the R89 Twist and now it’s my favorite razor.
Interesting, looking at the website the angle is steeper than many razors. I'm guessing this wouldn't be a great beginner or intermediate razor as the shaving angle is different than other razors. At least not without some careful practice.
By "those razors" do you mean Henson or safety razors in general?
@@synp9ynir Henson is the problem. I’ve been shaving with safety razors, shavettes, and straight razors since I was a teenager and I’m in my 40s now. If you cut yourself you’re doing it wrong. My issue is ingrown hairs and irritation.
What about head shaving?
Sure, it can be used for that.
@@geofatboy Thanks!
I have the medium in copper. It's okay but, I'd rather shave with my Gillette Slim or my Razorock Superslant
bit.ly/HensonAL13RazorSN I'm a big fan of the copper color!
@geofatboy I just got the copper medium last week, direct from Henson. Sorry Geo, but as I'm in Ontario where they're from, made more sense to order direct 😊. Been using a Merkur Slant for a long time, but I think this Henson will be my go-to. Cheerz
Ill tell you 1 thing... the new MILD version is more aggressive than a Merkur 34C so decide from there.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
I have all 3. 🤣
Cool! You can mix and match the parts to suit your mood for any given shave!
Try Gillette 7'O clock sterling safety razor
Hmmmm, on the lookout!
I grow on my neck and mustache more then my face! face grows in thin and patchy! so the scend one would be good for me! And what crazy is that am 36 and can't grow a normal looking beard like u always grow in patchy
It's quite common for beardage to grow more or less in different areas of the face. No need to feel like the Lone Ranger!
hang it on a naturally angled bathroom wall. wtf!
Thankfully (or not) I don't have any of those in my bathroom.
