I'll be in Chiang Mai this Friday and will be looking for exactly what you are doing, so keen to watch how and where you are getting your visa.
It's a great place and there are many "ways" to get visas here so get.yoir feet on the ground and ask people with experience
Thanks you. You did an excellent job in explaining everything that one needs to know to obtain their retirement visa.
Thanks 😊
Really like that FastTrack! Well worth it👍
Hey Peter, Fellow Aussie here (with almost the same back story as yourself), currently living in Jomtien. I can totally relate to everything you discussed in your recent interview, life in Australia has simply become unaffordable. I did a "test run" here for 5 months after which I went back to Oz to finalise everything there. I agree 100% that everything just works out here in Thailand. I still cannot believe I made the move! Like you said, I decided to do it, worked towards it then just did it. I am so glad I made the move and am very grateful to the Kingdom of Thailand for making it do-able. I look forward to watching your upcoming videos.
Great success story mate 👍
Hi, Thinking of doing the same later this year. Also thinking at Jomtien. But am only thinking of maybe 6-7 months in Thailand and then elsewhere for the other months. Would a retirement visa still be the way to go?. Thanks.
@sdnalyam yes, just get a multiple entry visa, and you can come and go as you like. I'm not sure what happens with the 90-day reporting if you are out of the country, though. 🤔
Peter, One reason you may not be getting views anymore is because when one types in Discovering Thailand your program does not come up! I got your link from your interview today. I have noticed other issues with youtube. It's not unusual for the sound not to work, etc.
The links work now and the channel is being more discoverable as I only today renamed the channel and UA-cam can be a bit slow to react. Cheers
90 day reporting with a 01 yr retirement visa seems to defeat the purpose of the retirement visa. Seems a little odd.
Not a retirement visa, it's an extension of stay based on your original visa on the grounds of being retired
Yes, it's just that people call it a retirement visa 🙄
Good clear information, thanks. Fast Track now $101 AUD.
Penny has dropped.
You are not doing the OA Retirement.
You are doing the Non O based on Retirement where no Health Insurance is required.
You have not explained that very well.
Correct, health insurance is only required when applying outside thailand 🇹🇭
Man that is one spangly beard! Great video again, thanks 👍
Glad you like it! :)
Your video are great well done from Scott new Zealand go mighty bulldogs
Hello, thanks for the videos on retirement visas. I’ll be applying for a tourist visa and plan to travel there on July 1st and then apply for a retirement visa. You mentioned that you need to have the 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account for 2 months before you can apply for a retirement visa. Does this mean you would have to open an account then leave the country (after the tourist visa expires) return to Thailand on a visa exemption then apply for the retirement visa?
Check the latest visa news... there is a 60 day visa exemption coming that can be extended another 30 days. Plenty of time to get your bank account sorted.
@@DiscoveringThailand Thanks 🙏🏼
Lets not forget that it’s basically illegal when the visa agency helps you with the 800.000.
Yes, it can work but nowadays the Thai government is getting more strict and if the agent gets caught doing this, it might get a lot of people deported who used those illegal ways.
Shh
Aloha and mahalo for the information. My wife and I will be retiring to Thailand in a few years and preparing everything beforehand and it's always helpful to keep up-to-date. Also, I heard that you'll be able to do the 90-day check-in's on the retirement visa online soon.
Yes, online check-in is available now, but your 1st one must be in person.
Aloha@@DiscoveringThailand ! We plan on hiring an agent to take care of all of that including setting up our bank accounts. Technically I'm already retired (collecting SSI) but I also own my own business. I'll actually be heading out to Thailand a few months before my wife to set everything up and secure a rental location.
@brianpark-siart2216 sounds like you have a plan, excellent 👌 have you been to Thailand before?
Aloha@@DiscoveringThailand! I have not but my wife has been on several business trips. She used to travel extensively for her job. She's also originally from Seoul, South Korea. We've been living in Hawaii for 30+ years now, so it's almost like the best of both worlds living in the US and Asia. We just decided we want to live the rest of our lives out comfortably and the US is not the place to be.
Excellent information! I really love the step by step processes.
Quick question, I've read that if you have a certain amount of retirement/pension income that they will waive the need for the $800,000 deposit. Do you have any info on that?
I'm not sure about pension income, I'm too young for that, but that is an option. Maybe someone in the comments knows that answer. 🤔
If you have 800.000bht in Thai Bank you can do a Retirement Visa all by yourself, you don't need an agent. Cost of agent.....around 30,000bht....do yourself....1,900bht. Single Re- entry Permit....1,000bht....Multiple....3,800bht.
You may have to set up your site so that it comes up when one types "Discovering Thailand". I suspect your channel is coming up only on specific program names like "Retiring to Chiang Mai Discovering Thailad"
Actually, I just changed the name today to Discovering Thailand, so I think youtube is a bit slow to get it out.
SO MANY videos like this.
Yes, there are, I'm only answering comments from viewers about my circumstances, and it is a part of my moving here, so maybe you might like my next video about soi dogs, not as many videos out there about them. Cheers ✌️
Great video mate , does your retirement run from end of initial Non O immigrant Visa so after the 90days
If I transfer to Wise, park the funds there for some time before transfer to Thailand, do I pay service fee twice? How long can I park the funds at Wise? Do I earn interest if park it there for a longer while? Thank you.
You can leave the funds in wise as long as you like, there is no extra fee. I do that while waiting for a good exchange rate to transfer. Some countries you can get an atm card to access your wise money also 👌not sure about interest... check link in the description for more details.
@@DiscoveringThailand Thank you so much for the reply. To be sure on the same page, transfer into Wise has no fee. Only when you transfer from Wise to Thailand has a fee, correct? Thank you.
@chev6901 correct, cost nothing transferring to Wise.. Use the link in this video description.. 😀
Could I ask if you were to do this again would you first secure your longer term accommodation arrangements before applying for the retirement visa ?
The other question I have is once you have your retirement visa and accommodation can you then obtain a different type of bank account ? I have a Bangkok Bank account that I have had for several years now but can only use for atm transactions, I do use Wise to tap and pay but just curious.
And good luck with your future plans, great work offering advice to others. Cheers
Hi, thanks for your question. I had everything required for the visa so I was confident I would get it but yes I was a little concerned about securing a 12 month rental agreement before hand. I would do it the same again. I also had a one way ticket to Thailand and sold everything in Australia, so I was not planning on going back. lol
I would think that having all the paperwork inc Visa, rental agreement, Thai Drivers License then opening a different bank account would be no problem. Hope that answers your question :)
Are you sure you can’t apply for the retirement visa after entering Thailand on the 30 day visa exemption? I have heard you can do this.
Now you can because the 30 days is now 60 days 😀
Can you buy English calendar to keep eye on the days living in Thailand thank you from Scott new Zealand
Yes, I have, I note my bill dates and other expenses on a desk calendar.
Yes it's called a smartphone
Are you able to earn any interest on your 800k baht sitting in the Bangkok Bank account? One can get 4 to 5% on cash in US accounts, so it would be unfortunate if that 800k is not earning any interest.
Interest is nothing here.
It's irrelevant in reality in Thailand, do some research and you will understand the "system
@@DiscoveringThailand OK, thanks for confirming. Wishing you the best with your retirement. I have "a few" years left, but slowly getting there.
0.3% normally 🥹
Hey GlobeTripper are you planning on eventually returning to Australia to claim the Aussie pension and endure the two yeary waiting period ? Noice vids by the way. Cheers
If that's still the case, in 10 years . Cheers ✌️
i wish you gave some induction of costs of agent, even roughly you spoilt video because of this
It varies massively and he didn't publicize it for good reason
Hey mate, is there many visa agencies in Chiangmai?
I’ll need to extend my 30 day visa when I am in Chiangmai next month.
Thanks 🙏
Yes just google it when here. There is immigration at Central festival shopping center.
@@DiscoveringThailand awesome, thank you 🙏
Just some constructive criticism mate, but can you make your videos more succinct please.
This video was 37 mins long.
"Succinct" what and why? 😉
Agent can do all that for you
Can I ask why you picked Chiang Mai?
I like the small city, local areas, mountains and amazing countryside I have yet to re-visit. I think its a nice place to base myself and yet still visit the islands and beach side places south for future trips.
@@DiscoveringThailandCan recommend Hua Hin or Cha Am as good spots to stay long term, especially the general area, beautiful long beaches, mountains, still with all the amenities that you will ever need, better air quality and easy access to the Islands!😊
Does the thai government tax you on bringing money into thailand or does the australian government tax you for taking money out?
Neither, I paid income tax throughout my working years and saved money. Nobody taxes me twice.
@@DiscoveringThailand , just don't tell albo, he'll find a way?🤣🤣
You look cute
😭 P R O M O S M
Ok ?
Your re-entry prices are agent prices.
But I understand now why you need an agent, much of your info are very wrong sir.
I do all this my self every year for 1900 tbh, it is not rocket science...and I am 67. :)
Yes, it was hard to find accurate information before I left. Thus, I used an agent. Do you know the single and multiple re-entry visa costs?
@@DiscoveringThailand Yes, single is 1000 at immigration and airports + 200 if you don't have the photo and paper form filled.
...and 3500 for multiple. I always do it at airport. It is close to immigration desk. They are open 24/7 there.
@@DiscoveringThailand And the purpose for the re-entry permit is to protect so you visa does not expire when you leave, it does if you don't have it.
Nothing else happens, and you can always start over.
