    Hi there
    Glad you have what you wanted ( your retirement visa) it is a bit stressful the first time as you don’t know if it will happen or not , I’ve done mine almost 2 years ago and renewed it in December , second time there was no stress as I knew what to expect , it was a busy day at the immigration office and took around 3.5 hours , but I have nothing but time here in Thailand so it was ok , the cost of doing your visa yourself is 1900 Thai baht around £41 or $52 , plus 200 baht for the bank paperwork which takes around 15 minutes to get from my branch of bank , 30 minutes to fill in paperwork with the aid of English speaking trainee immigration officers , 5 minutes to have it pre checked then given a number to sit with an immigration officer and he/she does the rest , you really don’t need to be paying agents for this fairly simple task, my 90 day check in takes less than 2 minutes every time I’ve been and I have never filled out any paperwork for it , I hand my passport over with the slip of paper in it , they remove it and within a few seconds my new one is clipped back into my passport and I’m on my way again , I think too many people listen to all the wrong experts in bars or on UA-cam , and immediately jump on the agent bandwagon, I know some people are too busy at the bar all day long to deal with this but if I can do it anyone can ,
    Have a great day , regards Davy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇹🇭

      @@DiscoveringThailandMay I ask how much you paid Assist Thai Visa for the visa? I think doing it via an agent when first arrived in Thailand is a good idea.
      It's a whole new world and settling in a new country takes some time plus some level of stress. Just wondering how much you spent for their service? Thank you.

    I believe the retirement crisis will get even worse. Many struggle to save due to low wages, rising prices, and exorbitant rents. With homeownership becoming unattainable for middle-class Americans, they may not have a home to rely on for retirement either.

    I live in Bangkok and use a visa agent for my retirement visa renewals. Cost 1X,XXX baht, don't need funds in the bank or 65,000 baht per month. I send them 2 pics, copies of whatever they want, no forms to fill in (they do that for me). About 2 weeks later, I received my passport back with a nice new shiny visa in it. Life is grand.

    Nice video -- You did not explain this about wise -->. Wise isn’t a bank, however, Wise is a trusted Money Services transmitter that is regulated by Federal and State regulators. In the US Wise holds 48 state licenses as a money transmitter, and where it doesn’t hold a license it works with banking partners to deliver services, depending on where you’re located¹.
    Wise is also overseen by regulatory bodies in a range of other countries. As a digital company, Wise has been built with security in mind and operates a selection of industry standard manual and automatic security measures.
    Banks and credit unions are overseen and regulated by local, regional and global bodies. Because banks offer additional services compared to Wise - such as credit and loans - they may be subject to additional regulation and licensing requirements.

    The word 'retirement' is used, but it is NOT retirement. It should be called a 'scam' visa.
    Retirement, in other countries actually, really means "RETIREMENT". In the Philippines, it is done once, ... "one time", then you can retire, without 90 day 'reporting', that's for convicts on parole. And not having to do it every year, because that's Thai bullsh*t.
    All those freelance agents, making a killing, with the Immigration staff 'on the take'. Also in the Philippines, that money in the bank, as part of the requirement, after 6 months of qualificatoon, can be used in the Philippines, even for the unencumbered purchase of property, entirely in your own name, not the "Thai wife" industry. As a a retiree, you can come and go from the Philippines just as local citizen does.
    It's done, you're in, so you relax, and enjoy retirement. IT'S DONE! .. In Thailand, it means they've got their hooks into you,
    Sicily has the Mafia. Thailand just call it something else. No quarter given to the elderly. Slip up and you're out. It's an annual game with 90 day parole reporting.

    • @DiscoveringThailand
      @DiscoveringThailand  4 місяці тому +1

      Been in Chiang Mai since 1977m then you walked into immigration at the same location it is today but an older building, as there were only 500 foreigners in Chiang Mai and most of them were US Conciliate workers, DEA and US Missionaries. The process took 10 minutes with a fee of 500 Baht. They even offered water while you waited. The Wife had to come along with all her documents. Then mass tourism ruined Chiang Mai., then it was a sleepy little town with no cars, few tourists and a charm to the slow pace of a life now sadly in the past. A Thai man would show off his money to the women by putting down his Ray Ban sunglasses and smoking a Marlboro, which were expensive and illegal at the time. and ordering a bowl of noodles. He thought and the girls did too, that he was a catch.

    So now you have the money in your bank/let's say /$ 29,000. after I year you need to still have $ 29,000 After 2 years you still have to top it up. after 3 years do you still have to keep $ 29.000 in the bank for the rest of your life? if so that seems crazy. why does a person have to sit on the money till they die? that's no fun ...lol if you could check on that it would be appreciated Thanks
