What blistering set of pure 70s rock n roll. I dont think a lot of people were aware of that side of the band. That version of Burn on the Flame gets my spirits up like no other tune.
Mick Tucker was definitely one of the most complete drummers that has ever entered the rock scene. It was a pleasure to both watch and hear him play. He had an enormously steady groove and an absolutely terrific technique. He is sadly missed.
Saw Sweet in about 1976 and was a great show and yeah we were all very impressed with Mick Tucker on those drums. He was a big part of the band no doubt !
I was so flabbergasted by Mick not getting coverage in Modern Drummer, I was compelled to approach them about writing a story. Luckily, the editorial director is a Sweet fan and gave me the go ahead! Appeared in the October 2012 issue.
As a life long drummer...started at 3...I loved micks style and what great fills and beats he had. I actually learned to twirl drum sticks by watching him. And now after 30 plus years on the road...his playing still holds up today. To say he is underrated does not show the injustice he gets by being snubbed by so many people. I think it is the glam part that keeps most people away. But those guys all could rock. And don't just listen to the hits...listen to the whole albums!
I've listened to the whole albums and I agree. If I could play 🥁 THAT'S HOW I WOULD LIKE TO PLAY. The guitars 🎸and drums 🥁 were EQUAL. The drum intros caught your attention immediately...Wow.
Mick Tucker is my favorite drummer of all time! I love the beat to into the night but my favorite beginning beat by Mick is Midnight To Daylight which is my favorite Sweet song! R.I.P. Mick Tucker The Man With The Golden Arm
Glad I met Mick , along with Andy, which I mentioned in a comment for another Sweet video. I had told Mick that he was an influence on my own musicianship. He then told me I was the 1st person who had ever told him that. Almost impossible to believe, considering Sweet's success of selling millions of records around the world. But, you never know . I knew that he'd been sick with leukemia before he passed away. Mick's talents are missed 💔. R.I.P.
The SWEET played the Miami Jai Alai Fronton in the 1970's. Mick Tucker did a drum solo with two MOVIE SCREENS. One screen was him with another drum set and the second screen was Mick Tucker with Tympani drums. Mick Tucker played a 3-way syncopated drum solo with himself.
I have been saying this very thing for many, many years. MT is Thee most underrated drummer. I had a conversation with both Eric Singer of KISS and Matt Sorum of G&R and both agreed Mick was absolutely fantastic and our drumming heroes.
Mick’s always been in my top drummers list. I used to watch him on Top of the Pops in the early 70’s as a 9/10 year old and I’d be trying to twirl my mum’s wooden spoons. He was amazing to watch and had such wonderful chops. His sound on Cockroach from Give Us A Wink was thunderous. What a player he was. RIP Mick, Brian and Stevie.
I first listened to Desolation Blvd when I was thirteen, in seventy-five. Now nearly fifty years later, I never get bored of hearing it. Mick was outstanding on this album, pure masterpiece
I know it's sad because he was incredible drummer. I love in Ballroom Blitz video when he throws up the drumsticks and catches them right in the middle of doing his whole sequence. Doesn't miss a Beat.
That is so cool. I also love the Ballroom Blitz Silvester Tanzparty one where he throws his sticks down and starts hitting the drums with his hands! Brian and Steve chuckle and then Steve starts applauding. 🤣🤣🤣
been a drummer for over 40+ years ans am very familiar with SWEET but Mick Tucker was never on my radar...until however in the past year or 2 ...agreed a very underrated drummer...Mick Tucker is definitely one of my fav drummers now..
Intro keep it in wow. I like to play it loud in my car when I know there's some heavy metal kids nearby. Just to tease them when they see this 60year old man get out. Ha ha ha they're usually amazed by the music. And old man has to have fun.
If people cannot immediately recognize Mick Tucker's BRILLIANCE, then there is something very wrong with them Andy should come to New Orleans for that rolling snare beat he mentions
As soon as Andy mentioned that "rolling shuffle" I knew he was talking about "Ballroom Blitz" and I thought of Paicey, who was another jazz enthusiast as well. Another great segment about a great group that was part of the soundtrack of so many people's lives; Thanks for your hard work!
Great idea to interview Andy Scott. The man is a living legend. His music has grown and so well evolved over the years. I say him play so many tiles, great artist. All my respect. These interviews add a new layer to his life work
have to say i hadn't really noticed about his drumming style until recently and was amazed how brilliant he was... not just the playing but the stick twirling 😱☺️
They influenced so many other musicians that they should be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is all about influence then why in the world has this band not been nominated? Millions of records sold and top of their game and just be loved by so many. They were just about the first to introduce Glam Rock so that's a big deal for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Who knows maybe someday.
Mick was indeed reserved althought he was intrested in what you had to say. I remember a gig in Germany when had a chat with Andy about the release of Sweet's Ballroom Blitz. I asked Andy why the Clip wasn't on the tape. The simple answer I got was, because there is no good quality avaible. Then I said I have the 36mm Film which was shot for the promo clip. Regarding to Mick it wasn't possible, so Andy said what do you have to loose. Among with other clips I let them transfered to a U-matic tape. That's the reason the, at least I think we see now the good quality video's on UA-cam.
Thanks for this interview! I found it interesting that Andy mentioned Mick's drumming in "Ballroom Blitz" because I'd always thought that in any band that did a cover version, the drummer couldn't mimic Mick's chops. I'm inclined to say that the song's opening is iconic. Thanks for another reminder of why the band Sweet's name is synomous with legend.
hahaha...the story about buying their first own EXPENSIVE cars is brilliant !! Even we DIE HARD fans of the band who have followed their carreer for more than 50 years now have NOT heard that story before !!! It has never been written in any SWEET biography .....Absolutely for insiders !!!! LOVE IT !!!!!
Has anyone ever noticed when Mick did his stick twirls it was a reverse twirl compared to how most other drummers did their twirl.. I can't be the only one who noticed this can I? Mick has been my favorite drummer of all time ever since discovering him and The Sweet in the late 80s.. I wish I grew up in the 70s to experience the classic lineup live! What a drummer nuff said!
Sweet was one of my favorite band , even today , I remember I bought the desolation boulevard album (vinyl) when I was a kid played it until it was so played out that it wasn't sounding good anymore , then I bought the cd version of it.
Mick Tucker was awesome .. But so was Steve Priest ..and the angel Brian Connolly .....Those were and are what made Sweet what it was and why fan keep coming back to listen to there music ...Because of these guys ...RIP Brian ,Steve and Mick you are and will always be missed ......Golden Angels for ever
From the clips on YT, Mick looks like quite a character. Seems like he had a great sense of humor and could laugh at himself when he made a mistake. I'd give my eye teeth to have met him. So talented and such a cutie!
I always say if you want to know how good Mick was then listen to tracks like The Man With The Golden Arm, Need a Lot of Lovin', and Own up Take a Look at Yourself. Brilliant drummer!
I'll say what few would. If there was so Sweet and in particular Mick Tucker there would no doubt be NO Tommy Lee of Motely Crue!! Mick was incredible, solid and quite the showman! RIP Mick, Brian and now Steve!
I never really knew a lot about Mick Tucker but what I did know I really like. Ballroom Blitz stands out in my mind so much that I had to learn to play that song. At first I thought how does this guy do this, but with practice I think I'm getting it. The sweet is the personification of 70s rock. Fox on the Run was so Mega. Sad to know that three of these guys are going now.
I've just done a thing on him myself on Tik Tok. One of my favourite drummers, tremendous feel, just generally very high class playing and the tribal Sandy Nelson thing too.
Underrated are you kidding, growing up listening to Sweet, I've always know Mick Tucker as one of the best drummers in the world......rest easy Mick Tucker
Just listen to Mick playing in ‘keep it in’ ,sweet FA’, ‘set me free’ and ‘turn it down’. Open rolls, closed rolls in between beats; amazing drummer. He influenced me to play drums since 70’s.
I after the summer of 1970, I called Eric Carmen, and asked if there was any chance for me make any extra cash with other bands that received lyrics from me. I was 10 at this time,. He called me back and told me to travel to a concert in Alabama or maybe Louisiana. It took around 10 hrs of driving to get there. Knock on rear door, like I was told, an old lady answered and took me to dressing room. Put me in makeup and pushed me out on the stage. That's how I meet Sweet
Mick Tucker was a great drummer The Man with the Golden Arm. Keep these coming thick and fast. More Sweet is good. One point look at, the notes on the back of the "Sweet FA" album, the engineer is a certain Hugh Charles Padgham. He went on to produce The Police, Genesis and many more. Maybe that's why "Sweet FA" is so F***in awesome, or did Mick teach Padgham a bit as well As it happens I'm a Hugh Charles as well.
Many underrated drummers. Jerry Mercer of April Wine, BJ Wilson of Procol Harum, Brian Keenan of The Chambers Brothers, Sib Hashian of Boston. The list goes on..
To me, Mick Tucker always sounded like a jazz drummer playing rock (quite the opposite of many "jazzrock" bands of the era). He wasn't really one of my "idols" (although skilled) but I could identify with his style and approach.
When i was into Sweet back in the 70s , i had no clue about how good Mick was on the drums - With age as my music knowledge grew, i got more and more aware of what a genius he was and what an integral part his drumming was into the entire formula of the Sweet sound. I also believe the band was quite lucky to have Wainman in the beginning who was a drummer himself and knew how to amplify and generate that particular drum sound behind the mixing console which became a signature feature and also got adapted post his production period. As much as everyone loves Brian, but Sweet would never have taken off like they did without Mick Tucker.
I don't think Mick was underrated by other drummers. They knew how good he was. So sad we lost him so early and really sad that only Andy has survived as the decades have passed by. Back in the day all my mates were quite amused when among my Sabbath, Zep and Purple albums there was 'Sweet Fanny Adams' and 'Desolation Boulevard' . Happy days growing up in my teens.
as good as any other rock drummer at that time. and he could sing.i always said. and still do if sweet. had played charlton rock with the who in 1974.there rock carreer.would have took of world wide. sadly it wasnt to be.mick was underated and so were sweet.
Mick Tucker was legendary. Gone way too young. Rest In Peace. His Musikladen concert was legend
Mick Tucker was a drumming beast
Just hearing Mick's drumming on "Off The Record" is incredible. My favorite drummer of all time.
Saw Sweet in about 1976 and was a great show and yeah we were all very impressed with Mick Tucker on those drums. He was a big part of the band no doubt !
He is one of my favourite drummers.
Mick Tucker was a monster, like an octopus behind the drums. If you know anything about music, you know how good he was
I was so flabbergasted by Mick not getting coverage in Modern Drummer, I was compelled to approach them about writing a story. Luckily, the editorial director is a Sweet fan and gave me the go ahead! Appeared in the October 2012 issue.
Wow! Never knew that. That's great! Glad he finally got credit for his great drumming. I'll have to look for that issue.
Mick Tucker is without any doubt among the best 5 drummers in Rock History. RIP Mick
Totally agree with you... My other 4 would be... Ian Paice, Brian Downey, Alex Van Halen and Stewart Copeland....
Mick was superb on drums. One of the best.👍❤️
Defenetely
Watch that Man With the Golden Arm! 💪
Watch that Man With the Golden Arm!! 🥁

Er hat Sweet , mit seiner Art zu
zu trommeln , mit bestimmt . Aus guten Songs wurden einfach so Hits

mick tucker was the best drummer in the 70s, and not only because I was a huge sweetfan...he was the best.
I have been saying this very thing for many, many years. MT is Thee most underrated drummer. I had a conversation with both Eric Singer of KISS and Matt Sorum of G&R and both agreed Mick was absolutely fantastic and our drumming heroes.
Love your stories!! Go on...😉😘
Mick was mega epic great!!!! 🎶❤️🎶
I love the original Sweet band. Excellent interview, thanks for allowing Andy to tell some stories none of us ever heard before. It was great. 👍❤
Such a fine band, I was always anxiously waiting for their new single, the 70's being a 45" single era. Fox on the run is a classic. Timeless tune
I first listened to Desolation Blvd when I was thirteen, in seventy-five. Now nearly fifty years later, I never get bored of hearing it. Mick was outstanding on this album, pure masterpiece
Mick Tucker was so awesome. He would always twirl his sticks like a baton.
Yes and who does that and still able to keep the beat? Nobody
Hall of Dame they voeling,so they all 3can R.I.P.
Nobody heard drums like on Sweet FA ever before. So ahead of his time!
"OK"!!🥁🔥
Underrated Band who came good when they broke away from Chapman & Chinn ! It's a shame that only Andy is still with us !
It seems Mick and the rest of the band are finally getting some appreciation for their musical ability. We'll done John.
Mick is totally underated. He is never mentioned when drummers are discussed but he was creative and had the chops.
been a drummer for over 40+ years ans am very familiar with SWEET but Mick Tucker was never on my radar...until however in the past year or 2 ...agreed a very underrated drummer...Mick Tucker is definitely one of my fav drummers now..
Same here. I am from '65.
Mick Tucker roger Taylor and cozy Powell best drummers love sweet since the 70s
Oh yes, Cozy Powell. Lenny White too.
Mick was a brilliant drummer 😃 The intro to Cochroach and his interaction with Andy's guitar on Keep it In are two of my favourites !
Intro keep it in wow. I like to play it loud in my car when I know there's some heavy metal kids nearby. Just to tease them when they see this 60year old man get out. Ha ha ha they're usually amazed by the music. And old man has to have fun.

Andy should come to New Orleans for that rolling snare beat he mentions
Mick😭😭😭 favorite drummer!! He always knew how to have fun. You can see how much he loved it
True dat, Mick Tucker is by far my all-time biggest drum influence .

Mick was a great drummer simple as.He sadly was underrated for sure. I sooooo which I had seen him live.
have to say i hadn't really noticed about his drumming style until recently and was amazed how brilliant he was... not just the playing but the stick twirling 😱☺️
Fantastic
Whatever kind of rock you threw at Sweet, they knocked it out of the park. Thrash metal, prog rock, speed metal, you name it.
They influenced so many other musicians that they should be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is all about influence then why in the world has this band not been nominated? Millions of records sold and top of their game and just be loved by so many. Thanks for your time Andy! Love the Sweet. 66 and I am still here. :)
Loved all of sweet but especially mick tucker he was brillant
Mick was indeed reserved althought he was intrested in what you had to say. I remember a gig in Germany when had a chat with Andy about the release of Sweet's Ballroom Blitz. Great band! One of the first drummers that i really took notice of in a band. Great!

Always cool to see and here andy.
Love hearing Andy reminisce about the old days. Remember the drum intro to Ballroom Blitz jolting me into puberty back then.
Just listen to The Man With The Golden Arm - the guy had SERIOUS chops.
Rest In Peace Mick.
AND Andy! Without Andy's guitar they would not have sounded the same. 🤘🎶
Mick was the Van Halen / Hendrix of drumming.
Best band of the 70s so underrated!!! All great musicians and that voice of Brian and Steve no contest!
along with cozy one of my fav drummers
I'll say what few would. If there was so Sweet and in particular Mick Tucker there would no doubt be NO Tommy Lee of Motely Crue!!
Mick was incredible, solid and quite the showman! RIP Mick, Brian and now Steve!
Great, great drummer.🤘🥁

What makes it even more incredible is that Mick Tucker was also entirely self-taught
I've just done a thing on him myself on Tik Tok. One of my favourite drummers, tremendous feel, just generally very high class playing and the tribal Sandy Nelson thing too.
Everyone loves Mick's drumming, that's for sure. 😎👍🏻
On the fade-out of Blockbuster, Mick plays the drum fill from Strange Kind of Woman.
I guess Mick loved copying some stuff Iain Paice did 😃 , both were in (my opinion) as good as eachover 😃
He influenced me to play drums since 70’s.
all of 'Give Us a Wink' album a drumming masterclass
One hell of a drummer for sure damn good
One of the best 🥢
We must get the groupon a place in hall of fame
Mick my favourite Drummer

Nice interview Andy
The Sweet were great.
M.tucker. Great drummer. VIP
Mick Tucker made me a drummer.
A singing drummer.
I was 14 and bought " Sweet F A".
and learned to play drums.
Mick was the very best.
Mick Truker very good drummer
Hell raiser live watch Mick go. Vip
Mick Tucker is still the best drummer I have ever heard.
To me, Mick Tucker always sounded like a jazz drummer playing rock (quite the opposite of many "jazzrock" bands of the era). He wasn't really one of my "idols" (although skilled) but I could identify with his style and approach.
A very underrated drummer who had me as a fan from the beginning.
All of us in the UK who can read say Sweet!!!
yes he was a top drummer
I read in a magazine for young people in the 70's that Mick was a big fan of Tony Meehan Of The Shadows. His favorite title was The Savage
Mick was an hybrid out of Neal Peart & John Bonham,Simple the best of the best
I think Andy should assist with a SWEET MOVIE - warts n all!
I am afraid that many Sweet fans wouldn't like the 'warts n all' and would use it as an excuse to try and lay blame on Andy like many already do 😔😢
When i was into Sweet back in the 70s , i had no clue about how good Mick was on the drums - With age as my music knowledge grew, i got more and more aware of what a genius he was and what an integral part his drumming was into the entire formula of the Sweet sound. Mick was the best drummer...
Mick Tucker, Ian Paice, Clive Bunker, John Bonham, Barriemore Barlow, Neil Peart, all of them highly brilliant drummers of the 70s.
Mick was one of the best drummers ever
❤❤❤ Sweet ❤❤❤
RIP Mick
Don Powell ....... could you do a feature on SLADE ?
I don't think Mick was underrated by other drummers. They knew how good he was. So sad we lost him so early and really sad that only Andy has survived as the decades have passed by.
Back in the day all my mates were quite amused when among my Sabbath, Zep and Purple albums there was 'Sweet Fanny Adams' and 'Desolation Boulevard' . Happy days growing up in my teens.
Mentioning Andy in the same breath as Ian Paice was a huge complement
as good as any other rock drummer at that time. and he could sing.i always said. and still do if sweet. had played charlton rock with the who in 1974.there rock carreer.would have took of world wide. sadly it wasnt to be.mick was underated and so were sweet.
Which ratings do you refer to and where may I find these ratings?
