@@larrydaiell A lot of die hards were really 'thumbs down' when this album was released, but IMHO they needed to look past the splashy '80s production' and listen to what Richard & the band were doing. ...and I'd say there are at least another 3 or 4 really great tunes on this album.
Fun Fact: This song was recorded as a take with the whole band playing together. instruments were NOT tracked individually. This is why it sounds different from the other songs on the M2M album, and why it's a standout.
That gritty guitar. Love it. Love Butler's voice. This is a classic from the lyrics to the melodies behind the verses and chorus. The hi hat is magnificent.Just superb, a band at the top of their powers.

i heard this tune in my head last night late as I mopped endless vacant hallways and thought about the amazing lyrics and was happy the tune played as clear as bell in my mind nice work guys
When I heard this song for the first time in 1990, I must have listened to it 10 times in a row, since then until today the song has a special significance for me, for me a masterpiece of the late 80s.
I just wrote a similar comment, and now I see that I am not alone in spotting the similarities. I wonder if the De Leo brothers had this album. Also, IMHO, the Furs were channeling "Houses of the Holy" & "Physical Graffiti" in the verse.
Well I must confess that it took me about 40 years to agree with you. I had this record since the 80s but the song was than not standing out at that time. Now I realized that this song was the best of the whole album. I am a bit of slow learner.
Come down here to Apache Junction, gotta get outa 'da snow, we got it all, gunna make it all pay, all of it's true you got nothing to lose, 'sept a Yankee or two..
What a fantastic Furs tune! I love the Houses of the Holy/Physical Graffiti inspired verse & a great STP-like sound from before STP even existed! (just sayin'..not a diss on my beloved Furs!) :)
They dirtied up their approach on this track -- with a real gritty Stonesy-type riff blaring throughout but the magic is in the string ensemble and Butler's tough vocals. These guys knew what they were doing. Should've been huge.
that drummer's gonna bust his frickin' snare drum, but this track's worth several of those, what the hey! now it's recorded for-all-time! how cool is that, right? perfecto!
this band, had the best band, they were lucky to have 'em! they better be makin' more records as we speak! this was an awful long time ago: i was only like 22 when this came out, yo~ 1987, right? tick-tock, doc!
My changed lyrics..'We got it all, you gotta go play, the cards in the deck bet you lost in the 'riv now you gotta deflect, the chip stack is down..'ya don't wanna to fold, but if you bluff your way, it my pay your day, and my sanitity is gold, its written in silver, where nothing is vain, its written in new words..
no-effing-way, jose! y'gotta get free every step-that-you-take, and y'gotta-get-loose! and all-of-it's-true! listen again, but while yer doin' yer homework: do yer homework, son! report back later, and thank me then~ ha ha!
i must admit, at the time, i wasn't so into it, tho we were the biggest furs fans by then, but i mean it took many repetitions and replays for the heaviness to sink in... the frequency seems a bit laggy, but they still had a lotta time, or so it seemed, i guess? a moderate tempo is the most sensible medium, from certain perspectives... it might be fun to slow it way down: let's try that soon, ha ha
absolutely killer track. probably *the* most underrated Furs song.
I know some Psych Furs fans that hardly remember it, if they remembered it at all!!!
I just heard this for the first time on Pandora, yesterday. It's been on repeat for an hour now 😀

Not only the song also the band.

@ Lalo Silva : Maybe it should be "Written in Silva"? Thanks so much !!! ☺️😁😇
He's not only got a good distinct voice but a extremely great lyricist.

This song is ahead of its time, it deserves to be among the grunge hits of the 90s between stone temple pilots and alice inchais. Love it!!
The solo is very Alice in Chains like indeed!
@@patrickstary8496 I believe this pre-dates Alice In Chains by several years. No ?
Sounds like Suede.
Or Suede sounded like them.

The Furs have so many great songs! Gotta rank this one way up there!
Without a doubt my favourite Furs song
It's a real close tie with The Ghost In You.

Love the Furs
AND ALL OF ITS TRUE. it's only the blues.. keep moving forward...
I like the way his accent comes out in his singing.
Love it , I really love it!
I almost simultaneously cried and pissed myself when they played this in Flagstaff AZ in 2017.
Played in Apeche Junction down here..a master piece.

Excellent 80's song, as only they can do it!
Its a pop version of Killing Joke- produced by Chris Kimsey right after he had done 2 Joke albums-good track though mind
i luv it....

Paul Garisto on percussion is the man.
They dirtied up their approach on this track -- with a real gritty Stonesy-type riff blaring throughout but the magic is in the string ensemble and Butler's tough vocals. These guys knew what they were doing. Should've been huge.
I think they would have been bigger if they stayed in the UK
To me and mine they WERE huge......alongside The Cure and Echo and The Bunnymen.
