i think the vocalist creates a lot of the deep atmospherics; such a delicious voice and then i think the fact that they don't try to be technical wizzards but instead let the songs breathe and be quite minimal in many ways is what makes their songs so great/
Yes! Sista of mine. Never had any. Then I had two Halfies. Might as well stick to none As one is a Twisted Sista. Impossible to understand with her third person gibberish YA-better off dead
The mysterious lyric was written by Richard Butler, after his girlfriend of the time moved to Italy. "Instead of saying 'my bird's gone to Italy and I miss her,' I tried to put over the feeling of being sad and low with images," he explained, a device which works perfectly. Against the band's slowly, darkly percolating rhythm, Butler's performance is a masterpiece of understatement, whispered intimacy rendered all the more effective by the instructions he was given by producer Steve Lillywhite: "he told me, 'go down the pub, have a couple of beers, and when you come back, I want you to sing like it's three in the morning, and you're talking on the telephone to someone.'" --AllMusic
I started listening to bands like the Psychedelic's and The English Beat way back in the late 70's because I just couldn't stand another 20 minute guitar solo, I just couldn't do it...Punk came out at the right moment. Yes I dug it too, everyone was waiting for this sound. Thank God it came when it did...
Came here from my Ex ty Steve .. his introducing me to the greatest music in my life ... and this song is in cold case S5 E 10 by Duran Duran Till the mornin after , and God Bless the Psychedelic Furs for saving my mind !
I just found this song, while searçhing you tube for some new music I would like, and I hit paydirt!! Sounds so good. Whats weird is none of these guys had any musical training, they just did it. Sometimes that is the best way to do it.

Me Too! So glad I didn't grow up with Mariah Carey & Spice Girls. Say Hello/Goodbye was No1 when I was born. I may be an old fart but had terrific music which has stood the test of time.....And I fuckin hate ABBA
Binge-reading Bret Easton Ellis & wanted an ambient 80s soundtrack; this came on old Spotify playlist shuffle & I was thrilled to rediscover a gem outside of my typical/done-2-death 80s stuff. Clutch addition to that ambient 80s vibe; feels like something his characters would be playing while being rich, morally bankrupt brats! AKA a glamorous & well-funded drug den. High end drugs & everything else, of course 😉
Day 6224. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 389. All my urine til 3.00pm then dried figs fresh figs yellow apple red grapes butter lettuce and some other food. No change.
The Furs at their very best. Sinister and hypnotic…
😎
Smashing 🙂
You're so right
This one grows on you
they were young: and competition was still fairly competitive, supposedly.... but they apparently paid-it-no-mind, haha

Spot on. The best kind of music. This song is beautiful.
Very English sounding
Totally agree
makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, brilliant song from an exceptional band.

On board brother 👍
AaaaaaahhhhHHHH SISSSSSSSSSSSS 😉❤️

In my top 10 greatest debut LPs ever.
The Pretenders 1st! Name a few more. Zeppelin for sure.
Yes! Sista of mine. Never had any. Then I had two Halfies. Might as well stick to none

I still love this lp..I was so lonely when i used to play this...It still makes me feel that way,,,
I used to listen to this album in my youth a lot. - If all lonely people of the world stuck together, we'd be the vast majority.
Music is often best enjoyed alone

A song from the edge of the world. broadcasting from the underground cafe.
Forgotten songs.
The most amazing song to date on my new "Radical '80s" playlist.
Did you get this on your list ?? :) ua-cam.com/video/vsvMOPlhg2g/v-deo.html
Depressing yet hypnotic
Amazing how the hell did they make tunes this awesome? Guess I was born in the wrong time....smh. just... AWESOME.
Eerie verses and an absolutely beautiful chorus. I love this song.
such a great atmospheric band, a favorite song..just saw them live the other night, this song is still just as dark as ever!
Just HAD to hear this song tonight.
Thanks for this post. I never understood the lyrics but now that I'm headed toward 70 and still bicycling...I often pace along "sister of mine..."
try it down a dark alley

Same thing early 90s.. when grunge killed the hair metal .. it was a welcomed sweep.

I discovered the Furs thanks to that cold case episode ! Great one
This, like every song on this album is FUCKIN GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
David Bowie comes to mind.
And Joy Division
I bought this album, when it first came out. Fun to dance too.
That was a cute comment 😉
This is devilishly catchy
That voice and sax together, perfect
i love this song with all my heart
The greatest compliment I could ever give... This could be a Roxy Music track.
Superb album, sadly, a standard not to be repeated

Excellent song. They were a really good band.
Lots of good times with this song playing.
Sister Europe (Lyrics)
The Psychedelic Furs
Stupid on the Steinway
So sick upon a Steinway
The sailors drown
See them talk and see them drown
And see them drink and fall around
Upon the floor
Sister of mine, home again
Sister of mine, home again
Lonely in a crowded room
The radio plays out of tune
So silently
The radio upon the floor
Is stupid it plays Aznavour
So out of key
Sister of mine
Home again
Sister of mine
Home again
Broken on a ship of fools
Even dreams must fall to rules
So stupidly
Words are all just useless sound
Just like cards they fall around
And we will be
Sister of mine
Home again
Sister of mine
Home again
Buy a car and watch it rust
Sister see them fall to dust
They fall around
In another crowded room
Paint me like the shirt i'm in
Honestly
Sister of mine
Home again
Sister of mine
Home again
Sister of mine
Sister of mine
Sister of mine
Sister of mine
Sister
Composers: T. Butler, R. Butler, J. Ashton, V. Ely
Good show at AC last night RB was into it as was the crowd.

A song like no other. A truly great one.
Where the hell does the time go?
Loved this song since first hearing it 38 years ago...
Always will love it but, fuck me, those years are flying by!

@@BrianCarnevaleB26 Brian, I love you man, but you gotta stop with these Bowie references. It doesn't sound like Anthony Newly, either.

Love, love this Furs’ nostalgic song. Brings back so many memories.
Sister of mine, home again
Sister of mine, home again
Nice horn section really adds to this. But it is the riff here.
A Fantastic riff.
"Buy a car and watch it rust; see it fall to dust".....
Love this song.
One Classic Album
Saw them in a small bar in CT. Great concert
Now this is music
Love them. I remember a concert of theirs years ago in Boston at the Orpheum, and they were great.
Great post-punk band....amazing !!
Their best album. Velvet U, Roxy Music with their own touch. Souvenirs...

Amazing Track , from an amazing debut. The Radio plays out of tune !
Love this so much !
Awesome
Fun fact, Robert Smith of the cure loved these guys so much that his song " cattepillar girl", he says was inspired by Richard butler.
Reminds me of hitching around the UK. Good days.
Only the furs can sound like the furs, totall class❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Such incredible beauty 😍 ❤ 💖 💕
Life is dream . When you die , you awake .
I first saw this video between movies on HBO. So very long ago.
I went to the closest record store & actually found the cassette in a bargain bin.
Tuuuuunnnnnne🎉❤
genius.
Old skool cool
Deep, slight dark, but pure ! 🖤
Their best!
Epic record from the day ... That f'n sax.
Reminds me of high school.
Sister Europe sounds like a Nirvana influence, one such song I can think of. Kurt would have taken from them in his own journey.
🖤
good music asf
Atmospheric moody dark jazxy classic PF "Sister Europe" 😎👍.
One of my fav song : drugs memories
Sounds like Big Long Now mixed with The Man Who Sold the World.
Wow I thought the exact same thing.
Even dreams, must follow rules.
So stupidly
when your sister comes home from college
Coming to Chicago ?
Absolute choon
god damn it kurt
❤
It reminds me of the style of The Cure's first albums.
This song i will remember or big lon now of nirvana jaja
Big long now 🎉
Way sister europe?
Sounds like Big long now from Nirvana's Incesticide album
That's why kurt left it as an outtake on bleach and put it on incesticide which is a complication album.
its a god song
💯

one of god's-top-ten, or a definite candidate-of-mine... because it's heavy... it has quite a 'gravity well', if-you-will

David Bowie's influence is paramount here!
💯
Paramount everywhere at this time
Sorry Victor, but I disagree. The only people talking about David Bowie in 1980 were Duran Duran and fellow clothes horses.
Joy Division vibe as well
Bowie influenced a vast array of post punk groups.
Reminds me of Magazine
Exactly. Parade.
Swear she looks good right now she’s finally getting there’s boys some new things to idolize her come on the players Mouthed as it 🎨🎤🎧counted
this track simply gets me off...
The singer tries to look too much like Bowie, it's shameless.
Was one that stayed on an turned her head back to say how incense you be
