I bought this album, Shuttered Room I think it was called when it first came out. Absolutely great debut. There were alot of new wavish type bands out around that time but there was something about the Fixx that was above and beyond alot of others. Although you don't hear them that much on the radio anymore, you do once in a while and they've stood the test of time better then alot of their contemporaries from that time. Good music and lyrics. Perhaps reminiscent of U2 but with more of a pop sense. Not as political, but they did have something to say about current issues in Europe, at least on their early stuff.

Zimriel is right. I’m grateful that President Reagan fought to end the Cold War and tear down the Berlin Wall, but it didn’t happen until the end of his second term. From 1981-88, great songs were being written all over the world, but especially in Europe (99 Luftballons by Nena, Is There Something I Should Know? by Duran Duran {which included the great line “You’re about as easy as a nuclear war”}, and many more) about the fear of a nuclear conflict breaking out between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. Also, a lot of people were suffering because of recessions and high unemployment, especially in the U.K. under Margaret Thatcher. It led to British bands making great timeless punk and pop and new wave and New Romantic music. The Fixx really honed in on the issues of the day and made music filled with angst and disturbing images that still resonate today. And I think, like Midnight Oil in Australia, they didn’t necessarily aim for hits, but the songs became hits all the same because they sounded great and made a statement too. There’s a reason why “reaganomics” is a term. It seems like only the New Wave kids were aware of how damaging his presidency would be. They opened for The Moody Blues back in Chicago in the mid 90's.........greatest $18 bucks I ever spent !!!
Loved this Song.. ❤
Ah dang this song does nothing but remind me of my Father. This was one of his faves. Miss you every day Dad, love you.
boy i miss TAMPA Jai ALAI...they used to play great 80's and Paul Hardcastle during intermission!!!! THESE songs take me bake to my teen years!!
TTOWN TAMPA It was nice in Tampa at MacDill Air Force Base was there in the early 80's left for Germany in 86
Always loved this!....man, the memories
I still have this record, I bought it back in 1982...
This group was way ahead of their time. Used to listen to them a lot back in the day.
Love the Fixx stand or fall
This band has always been so underrated. Stand or Fall. Secret Separation is another incredible song. One Thing Leads to Another. Saved by Zero. Are We Ourselves?
I was 17 when this came out. Now more than ever this song is relevant to the United States and those of us that served proudly in the military. I fear all we protected is lost on the generations behind us....
Thank you for serving my friend….. and I pray for all those who paid the ultimate price for our country. It’s a shame all of your sacrifices seem to have been in vain with the path our country has taken. God bless you.
What a terrific band! Every song is a jam! Rock On!
Very good times my friend
Up to this day when I actually read the lyrics, I thought it was "It's the year of fear," but rather "it's the euro theatre." They both kinda work lol
GREAT song. One of my favorite 80s bands
I don't think many people recall this song. but it's def a massive hit.
AMEN JS
That bass player is thumping! What a blast from the past, eighties music was so awesome!
Still touring 2017 USA. ...That speaks for itself. People say that they didn't like New Wave music, well, when they stop to think about it, they realize that they still know all of the words to the songs...This band was very underrated. I loved New Wave, and I grew up in with the late sixties and early seventies music..
Cindy Barfield I was about 12 when this came out I think or 13 but it reminds me of the good old 80s...fashion not cool but music was nice ..new wave ,the police, oingo boingo, erasure ,reggae bands like steel pulse ,and many good movies too
Off the chain. Definitely among the very best British Invasion 2 bands. Haunting, perfect. Peace always.
