Honestly if you go on the used market it's not that bad there's some games like Bayo 3 or Metroid dread which are 60% off the launch price which is pretty reasonable even on PS5 and PC standards for around 2 year old games. This might just be a thing in the UK though idk also its just exclusives, 3rd party games and especially indies generally hover around the same price on their sales when comparing Steam to Eshop sales. I really think it's just the exclusives but "Why are Nintendo Switch Exclusive Games Expensive?" would be a worse title so I get it. This is from the POV of a PC gamer that plays a lot of switch on the side for portability already had one long before the steam deck came out and don't feel the need to upgrade it with switch 2 likely being within a years time.
I just really wish that NS Games could be lower the prices are ridiculous i live in Canada and if I want to buy 2 games i have to pay $160 plus tax just for 2 games 😢😢 so each game is $80 its sad

Up until the Switch, Nintendo did re-release games at the $20 as Player's Choice or Nintendo Selects but IP games NEVER went on sale. Now they do both physically and digitally. In the US, Breath of the Wild cost me $40 same with Mario Odyssey. And why should games get cheaper as they get older? Games like BotW don't degrade in quality. A copy today will play just as good as it was on launch day. As for family friendly, Nintendo has branched out since the Wii U. Bayonetta is semi-IP yet it is an M rated series.
@Giswig I disagree with you normalizing to pay full price for games from 7 years ago because the game is "as good." The game maybe didn't change, but technology improved and the older game fell behind
The only reason a game should ever go down in price is if it becomes outdated. Games like Mario odyssey still feel brand new, and so it stays full price. Plus there’s the added bonus of being able to pay significantly less than competitors squeeze out of consumers at launch, 60 compared to the industry standard of 80. This, combined with the lack of total brokenness at launch, makes switch games the most fairly priced on the market. It’s a real shame how unfairly games are priced according to industry standards, they go from way too high for cheap quality at launch, to extremely low for acceptable quality a few years later.
I don't mind paying 60$ again for games like Super Smash Bros Ultimate or Super Mario Wonder. I will say though, there's games like Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Link's awakening DX, and the Mario RPG remake that look really good, but 60$ is a bit much to ask imo.
Mario RPG and Link's Awakening are definitely worth the $60 considering they were re-made from the ground up, but I get what you mean considering they are both relatively short.
It is because they still sell. People buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games so they are always in high demand.. high demand equals high value.. ps and xbox games usually have yearly sequels so the older titles are no longer in demand.. low demand equals low value..
Trust me it doesn't cost alot to manufacture a game cartridge, inside a switch cartridge its just a IC (integrated circuit) soldered onto a pcb. Also my ps5 game disk covers feel much much better than nintedo's because they are imported from the EU and not from China, i have a ps5 game from China (God of war ragnarock) it's original but the plastic doesn't feel good. My nintendo game cases are from Singapore and they feel good but still cannot compare to the ps4 game cases (made outside china) mainly because the spine is much thick. However it does suck that now most games no longer give anything when buying the physical copy, so far i had Sony games atleast give me something unlike nintedo which is just art behind the game cover. I still remember getting the map for gta 5 and some stickers for cyberpunk
The cartridge itself might not cost much but the operating expenses must be expensive. And maybe it depends on location. In Canada the PS5 games feel horribly cheap, whereas Switch cases feel solid
It’s simply because the fanbase is willing to pay whatever price Nintendo asks so shoutouts to them for properly monetizing their fanbase but PlayStation sadly failed to do the same especially with the PS5 release which should’ve been at $999.99 since allot of people had zero issues buying the console for $1200-2500+ and if u ask these psychopaths today if it was worth it they will tell you that it is so PlayStation please milk the fanbase better with the PS5 Pro and sell each console at $999-1200
@@HolyGrailGaming I want to clarify that I am not holding any grudge against these companies since they sadly know that not everyone thinks about performance per dollar or getting your moneys worth like you and me so they capitalize on it and I hope they make the most money this time and not the scalpers
Lousy controls, 30fps, and first party games that never went down in price is why I never played Nintendo games. However, when the Switch 2 comes out with 60fps games, and better resolution, and hopefully more comfortable controls, I'll be picking one up. But I'll be renting the cartridges from Gamefly. I refuse to play older titles that don't go down in price.
Last year I bought my first PC after only having laptops. Finally I can emulate games. I don't want to pay 60 bucks for a game all the time. I emulates SMB Wonder and I don't regret it.
It is because Nintendo doesn’t undervalue their products and IP so you pay for it and therefore hold their value. Printing Nintendo cartridges are not cheap and therefore print runs are in limited quantities and vary rarely reprinted after sales cycles are completed. I’m happy for their prices being elevated and won’t change. I see Sony doing that as well now. They vary rarely have sales now on any of their first party titles with exception of holidays and then go back up and stay there.
You nailed it. I mean I wouldn't mind games being cheaper of course, but I understand the reasoning for them costing so much and I think it's usually worth it when it comes to Nintendo.
The answer is very simple. Nintendo is a very greedy company, and people fall for it. Xbox is the complete opposite and actually sells games and consoles at a very agreeable price. Xbox even has deals for most of their games to be 75% off or even more. Xbox GamePass is also something that proves how greedy Nintendo is. Nintendo won't offer a monthly subscription that offers access to day 1 releases or even games that came out a year ago. The Nintendo Switch prices haven't dropped much given that the Switch has been out for many years longer than the Xbox Series consoles. Nintendo never bothered to give the Nintendo Switch Oled a real hardware upgrade other than just a screen that doesn't make games run better and only just makes colors pop a little more. I promise you, if Xbox comes out with their own handheld console, it would not only be just as much or less than a new Xbox Series S, but it would also be much more powerful than what Nintendo will ever release. Xbox can easily destroy Nintendo if they want to and take them out of business. The only justifiable thing that Nintendo has done was come out with a Nintendo Switch Lite, which is actually fair for the price given the limits of the hardware. What surprised me more was that I used to think Playstation was greedy, but no, Nintendo is far worse.
Really nice video, but you threw me off with that last part, playing graphically demanding games on the switch feels bad, performs bad and the controller feels awful but you still buy and play them and choose to play them over other platforms? Damn, wouldn't be me.
thank you! haha you’re completely right, I have no idea why but I almost always opt for the Switch option when available… Most likely because I collect for the console but who knows 🤷♂️
Yeah I’m not paying 60 bucks for a games that’s over 5 years old. Also what are you on about people don’t have skills to run an emulator. Download emulator and download rom what’s so difficult in that? I grew up on Nintendo with the snes then made my way over to the PlayStation. I bought a brand new wii back in 2012 with all the classics and I kid you not nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Those games sucked and were boring as hell. Up til today some of the games like galaxy and donkey Kong are still in the plastic disc box they came. How many times are you gonna jump on a flag and still be entertained? I have a brother that smokes weed and doesn’t work. He probably plays the wii al ost everyday. Thinks there a link between people who refuse to grow and like Nintendo. Get an Xbox or ps and play some big boys games. Will be a fresh change of pace
Why are the digital versions still $60 tho? All the 2D Mario games should be $19.99 by now with Wonder out.
Pirating is the only solution. If they don't give fair prices, we steal. That's it.

I have really regretted buying a switch for my kids. The games are way too expensive
%90 of the time the way the company intended isn’t it. Fan Emulation for Mario 3D all stars shits on Nintendo’s efforts
It’s simply because the fanbase is willing to pay whatever price Nintendo asks so shoutouts to them for properly monetizing their fanbase but PlayStation sadly failed to do the same especially with the PS5 release which should’ve been at $999.99 since allot of people had zero issues buying the console for $1200-2500+ and if u ask these psychopaths today if it was worth it they will tell you that it is so PlayStation please milk the fanbase better with the PS5 Pro and sell each console at $999-1200
Yeah you're right, but I'm definitely not complaining. I'm glad my PS5 didn't cost $1k
@@HolyGrailGaming I want to clarify that I am not holding any grudge against these companies since they sadly know that not everyone thinks about performance per dollar or getting your moneys worth like you and me so they capitalize on it and I hope they make the most money this time and not the scalpers
Let's just hope sony or Microsoft doesn't take note from Nintendo 😭
Rdr2 for 20 dollars is a bargain
Gta 3 VC SA are on the switch tho
Yes they are…
Lol no fuck Nintendo mod your switch play everything for free
Lousy controls, 30fps, and first party games that never went down in price is why I never played Nintendo games. However, when the Switch 2 comes out with 60fps games, and better resolution, and hopefully more comfortable controls, I'll be picking one up. But I'll be renting the cartridges from Gamefly. I refuse to play older titles that don't go down in price.
You pick it because of bias..
They’re called ‘Ever Green’ titles, games that sales gangbusters, even at full price!
games that sell gangbusters*
The thing I like about nintendo games is there are no bs woke propagandas.
Because you'll buy it anyway. Twice
Last year I bought my first PC after only having laptops. Finally I can emulate games. I don't want to pay 60 bucks for a game all the time. I emulates SMB Wonder and I don't regret it.
Nintendo is the lowest quality company and releases the lowest quality consoles and games and expects the highest praises and prices
thank god for freepsxboot and cd burners. There is enough great games on ps1 to last me a lifetime
because they can and people pay for it
Yeah I know, why don't they do $20 Player's Choice like they did in the SNES/N64/GC days?
That would be amazing!
Because people pay that much for them.
Pretty much!
Why do you shill nintendo? I would love to see your collection! Most of the facts are you saying this video are pretty wrong actually
I’m a fanboy 🤷♂️
#BARS 😂 RIGHT ON
And they cheaper in japan 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just buy use hack switch 😂 no need to buy 😂
Yikes
Cry about it.
Just say you're a fanboy dude. Funny thing is ive been playing Nintendo stuff since before you were born
