@@WellOkIGuessYouGotMe You are correct. One of the main problems particularly with gen one is that people used cheats on them & the games started bugging out even if you started a new save file which makes them unplayable plus gen two games aren't worth it unless you can get one with a new save battery or are able to change it yourself.
Because most of these games are gone because of that, there are few playable (legal) copies left. But these games are so beloved that alot of people want to play them. Nice video lad, but Manchester is blue! I can hear that Mancunian accent so I won’t be too hard on you. I personally think the games are expensive because people view them as collectibles and there are a finite number in existence which still function. As you mentioned, these games can be played for free (which I do frequently), so I think it’s as simple as people being collectors and potentially hoping they can sell it for more later.
I do have to sadly admit it currently is😬. Not looking forward to a potential 2nd FA Cup Final after last year (though knocking Liverpool out was beautiful yesterday!) Exactly yeah - same with Pokemon cards to and the insane prices of old cards (some of which I most definitely had!)
Wait, I get that having 10 copies means 10x more likely to find shinies, but how do you physically do this? Lets say you have 10 GBAs with 10 copies of Pokemon Sapphire, how do you shiny hunt with all 10 at the same time? Like you only have two hands... How does this work? How do you shiny hunt on ten games at the same time?
it really seems to me that collectors only care about money and bragging rights and not about people who actually like these games. who would price any old game over a thousand? it's stupid.
I have definitely spent enough for the older games. I bought yellow for 40 and in great condition but other than that it’s at least 60 to 80 or more for em. I have blue yellow silver and gold. The gba games are where it starts getting pricey and I bought all the fakes for 20 for all 5 gba Pokémon games. I’d like to get soul silver with the case but it’s 200.
Actually that's another thing I didn't touch upon - the fakes nowadays are better and better. So you could fork out say 80 on them and its actually a fake.

Id say for the same reasons the cards are. Stupid kids like me growing up trashed and ruined our cards and games during a time when mostly children played pokemon and now the supply is really low
Very low supply, arguably the best game to come from pokemon, high demand, and no one but legitimate collectors kept their stuff cib. The case alone sells for a good 60-70 bucks. 200 is rather cheap for that game in particular considering the value of the dollar nowadays.
First generation games can still be bought for around £30 unboxed and if you just want to play the games and enjoy them then this is a a fair a d decent price. Boxed 1st generation games however is a different matter. My real issue is with the DS games. As these are almost always seen boxed and gan go for stupid money.
Gasoline used to cost $1.00 per gallon....now it costs five times as much. Candy bars used to be between $.50 to $.65 each.....nowadays, good luck finding anything under $3.50 each. My point is that nothing gets cheaper over time....prices rise exponentially. So, keeping that fact in mind, there is nothing abnormal about the cost of Pokémon games over the years.
The main reason I wanted the physical copies was because of the transferring of Pokémon from generation to generation, but now that it’s cut off from the switch there is less of an incentive for me to buy a legit copy and I would rather emulate, I wish I was a fortune teller as a child because I would have kept all my old Pokémon games if I knew it would have been raised in price like this.
I actually recently saw some prices for it and they were very expensive. I saw a boxed leaf green at a price of £130. So that price doesn't surprise me.
Is pokemon alpha saphire physical still wroth to buy since the e shop closed we cant no longer get the 1.1 patch which fixes bugs like freezing in hall Of fame?

the Pokémon games are about the price of an anime figure on ebay I bought three of the ds games I dont mind paying 150 or slightly more got both in box legit
Don't buy them. At least not the real cartridges. Buy repros. They're cheap and play exactly like the original games (besides being able to migrate to DPP and access Pokemon Colosseum/XD/Bank) or just homebrew your 3DS and install CIAs, and homebrew your Wii for Colosseum/XD.
