But to a believing scientist (BS Physics) like me, God is definitely not the gaps. My faith is based on evidence. That begins with eye witnesses. Then my own experiences. And my view includes the foundational principle of modern science established by Newton and Galileo which is that if God created the world, then it should be comprehensible. So for me, each advance in science is not a problem.

@@_truthful_q_ I got what you mean but, science people operate based on logic. So the guy that posted the comment might not get what we both understand. However, there is a logical way of explaining God. It’s through the validity of the teachings and philosophies of the Bible. A person doesn’t need to be Christian in order to benefit from it’s teachings. The advice in the Bible is what works. And there are consequences to not listening to it in the here and now. Not just “hell fire”. Having the benefits and the consequences placed in an after life setting is the reason they doubt. Telling someone they are “going to hell” comes off like if we are threatening them or like if someone is trying to glorify themselves at the expense of others. I know that’s not the intention. But it can come off that way. If someone were to recommend them to read the Book of Ephesians or Proverbs and simply ask them if they think its good advice, with the yes there is acknowledgment. And that acknowledgment could grow into faith.
@roldanrosario8292 It is said: Knowing the news is not like seeing the news. There are different levels to everything. However, certainty through witnessing is not like certainty through faith. God creates what He wills and chooses out of them. Everyone has been granted free will, but ignorance doesn't stem from not knowing, it stems from not wanting to know. Even within the life of man, there are safeguards. Man gets older, perhaps sicker, and has to rely on others. All are opportunities to return to his creator. There is a big assumption in that statement. I don't know any religious person who delights in not knowing things. I can understand every thing going on under the hood of a car, and yet I still believe the car has a designer, creator, engineers, etc. I don't look for something unexplainable as my only acceptable evidence of a designer. I once was unable to understand why the only evidence atheists will accept for God is fantasy-story magic. But now I realize I know EXACTLY why they will only accept that as evidence--so they can go on saying "There is no evidence." A car engine is evidence of an engineer, even though I don't see the engineer plastered into his own engine. A painting is evidence of a painter. All of creation is overwhelming evidence of the Creator.

@@mikevanderman2727I’m not his wife but the Great Commission goes hand in hand with what his wife believes, if you understand the Word of God in context, rather than trying to isolate verses for the purpose of making a conflicting argument. The Great Commission isn’t a crusade where you force people to into submission. The command to “baptize all the nations” did not mean force every single person to get baptized or else. It meant spread the gospel and do missionary work throughout all nations, even the nations where believers didn’t dwell. For Christians, pride is the number one sin the Devil tends to use against us. He does so by hiding our pride behind our faith, which is a very clever way to get us to be prideful without seeing it, because we end up telling ourselves that what we’re doing is in the name of God so it’s ok. Christians rarely check their actions once they convince themselves that what they’re doing is for Christ. The Crusaders were perfect examples of this. As believers, we sometimes allow ourselves to get intoxicated off our own faith and love for Christ, and too often try to literally do God’s work, essentially playing God. We are to live our lives a certain way, and to spread the gospel, but we also have a responsibility to preserve the right to choice that God explicitly gave to both saint and sinner, so that when sinners ignore the Gospel, the Lord can have his vengeance without Him, or us, stepping on his gift of free will to us all. So as tempting as it may be to want to try and force the issue, we can not and should not be trying to solve the worlds problems as Christians. We are simply supposed to spread the gospel thru our words and actions, and for those that reject us, love them anyway, pray for them anyway, and let the Lord deal with them like He said He would.

About the beginning of the third trimester. The second is when the culture says the fetus has rights of autonomy. This, naturally, is based on irrational beliefs, not any objective standard. Religions create arbitrary morality based on irrational beliefs: that is why they disagree among themselves. It is also why the various churches actually evolve their « absolute » moralities over time: if their moralities were absolute, determined by an unchanging god, then the morality would always be the same. FWIW here's how I look at it: in science we ask the questions "what is stuff made of? How does it work? And can we use it?" To answer those questions, we concern ourselves with what we can observe, measure and test. In religion we ask " What does it mean to be a good person? What happens after we die? And what is the nature of the soul? " And we answer those questions through prayer, faith and sacred texts. It's when we try to use one means to answer the questions of the other that everything gets bollixed up.
That's the problem though. Spiritual leaders are supposed to show you how the world works and guide you through life. They were the original scientists. They used observations and tools to validate their thoughts. Religious leaders just indoctrinate you and tell you to ignore science when it conflicts with teachings.
@@andrewvelonis5940 Religious leaders were originally truth seekers. They used science to confirm their thoughts and observations. Now religion is separated from science and uses old doctrine as a guide. This is an issue in modern society.

I'm past religion, but as an Engineer, how did that first piece of dust particle form, in order for the Known Universe to exist? My mind requires something to build with.
I think the issue may be arising from your characterization of the singularity as dust. It was most certainly energy without material form. Dust came far later after the energy condensed into hydrogen and formed stars. The reason the energy condensed into hydrogen seems to be for no other reason than that’s the simplest element. Then stellar nucleosynthesis occurred forming all elements through the process of fusion. This works up to the element iron. Fusing past iron requires supernova sized stars and energy to be created. So yeah. Energy in the “beginning” expanding to “start” time and space. From where did the energy come or what is beyond this singularity we have no way of possibly knowing.

Whenever a religious leader, politician, or scientist is talk🦜 in. I was advised as a boy by my MoMo (Mother's Mother) to always listen to what they are NOT saying.
I can understand why, if someone does not understand something, and has no scientific background or questing mind, then it is perfectly logical that they might invent a god and say"God must have done that". But what is not logical, or rational is that they then extrapolate that god concept into a god that is an intelligent entity, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, and an all loving personal god. That is just bizarre. There is no reason why these attributes should be applied to this god, other than people wanting their god to display these attributes because the feel more comfortable having a god like this in their lives. But wanting it so, does not make it so.
If it could be proved that some sort of god exists then scientists would accept the findings however if a negative could be proved ie that god does not exist and never has done then I doubt very much that the religious would change their minds. Therein lies the difference.

By its own methodology, science has nothing to propose about anything 'beyond' this physical reality, nothing to say about 'God' one way or another. When a scientist begins discussing God or anything like that, he/she has taken off the science hat and put on the personal philosophy hat. When we are discussing our own personal philosophy, and engaging in apologetics to support it, then we are in the realm of presuppositions and interpretations. And each of us has our own.

And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God. 1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian. People just scared of not continuing on forever so they have to believe there's a God. But if you think rationally its more probable when you die its done. Its not bad its just reality. Glad im not religious with shackles on my feet I think freely without any bigotry.
That's the same problem a lot of people have with the science of the gaps. and so many people accepted that that now we have the government presuming people guilty by the gaps. But i digress.Atheists live by the gap, they really are the last people who should complain about it.
As a historian I know that there is more that I do not know about history compared to what I knew that I did not know before I commenced my studies 35 years ago. I hope and trust the same applies to scholars in other fields, e.g. chemistry, biology or philosophy. I hope that they like I are fascinated by every new discovery and see a number of new questions that follow from it
Faith resides in a realm that does not lend itself to the scientific method. In that regard, it is right to criticize religious claims within science. It is also likely that when philosophy gave birth to the scientific method, philosophers realized that it was not the tool to answer every inquiry. The idea that the field of science is rational and all religious thought is irrational because some claims made by religious people have been disproved by science, ignores the fact that science is itself limited in scope.
Your awe of the universe fits in with Spinoza and Einstein where their God is, according to their philosophy is there is no difference between God and Nature.
Current Scientists like Newton also have their "God(s) of the Gaps" they just have different name for them: Simulation Hypothesis, Observation Effect may be even Duality
I have noticed in recent years that the religious are distancing themselves from the word 'faith'. It's a bad word now. 'But you have faith too' they say as if they are pointing out some dirty secret or hypocrisy.
He says it himself: "Your mind is still within the cosmos." So the cosmos is thinking through you good sir, on this most fundamental question of itself? Here is a Mystery: who then is seeking what?
The funny thing about "the God of the Gaps" is that those gaps have been continuously growing smaller over time.
As long as that god falls through the gaps or cracks then I am content. Just waiting for the day when god is swept away into the dustbin of history!
There will always be a gap. Knowledge only increases the gap (“the more you know…”).
The GOTG feeds on it.
We just have to stop with the godding.
God does not have to prove anything to you. He already proved it. He doesn't have to manifest himself to you or your family. he does not have to spoon feed you or answer any of your questions or prayers. If you beleive, or don't believe it changes nothing. God didn't show up to his chosen-people for 500 years or so(except to a chosen few). Does that mean he didn't exist ? Please. Then he decides to show up all of a sudden ? When he does decide to show up, watch out. knowing God is a privilage not a right. God is like the parents who went on vacation and left the house to the kids. When they come back the house better not be trashed ! just saying...
That is the whole point to the God of the gaps.
This man is not afraid to speak the truth. I agree with everything he says and stands for. Brilliant human being.

@roldanrosario8292 It is said:

Top and bottom line is this is one creepy 😳 world for sho. It's not just about biological life existing. At what age does the right of bodily autonomy kick in?

The first is the only answer that is simply rational: about the time the fetus is viable, could survive outside the uterus.
(E.g., All Christians accepted slavery. Now few do. All Christians accepted child marriage. Now many fewer do.)

No evidence for a soul or afterlife.

Just because it or the people who follow it's writing, claim it to be the "Word'(s) of God doesn't make it inherently true, at least no more true than Aristotelian Celestial Spheres. The bible being an incoherent mess when trying to explain the universe does not negate the possibility of a Higher Intelligence or Power; One does not preclude the other.
@@DanielRodriguez-zj5il Actually, the Bible doesn't attempt to explain all of the workings of the Universe. No book does, and neither can 1 person. It's too vast for human minds to fully comprehend
@@Pryormba Of course the bible doesnt cover everything. Back then they didnt even fathom concepts like the singularity, blackholes, or space-time. However, as soon as the bible tries to be specific, it backfires. In some cases it even contradicts itself. It's hilarious actually. I can provide verses if you like, but believers usually make bs excuses when confronted with these inconsistencies, so I'd like to save some time.
I would like to hear the Science behind the "spiritual"...things like dreams, prophecy, encounters with spiritual beings and even witchcraft...
God created the universe and understands it's creation while science is catching up on how it was done. All that was created, was created by him. And this man should not doubt the God's existence because we all live in his creation❤❤

Great guy ! 👍
I long for the day when a human being proofreads and fixes the captions.
yeah, but they're funny 🤪
Why does he always have to use such BIG WORDS!!!!
I always have a dictionary closed by whenever I watched his videos.😂❤❤❤
I went to The Gap down at the mall, but God wasn’t working that day.
He’s the god of the Gaps, so he was probably just at another location that day. They say he is everywhere, but I'm betting when it comes to hands-on retail management, that isn't the case.
You shouldn't have gone on a Saturday.
He wasn’t working but he was still peeping in the changing rooms 😂
Lol
It must have been Sunday. Ha!
"I had motives for not wanting the world to have a meaning. For myself, as no doubt for most of my contemporaries, the philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation. We objected to the political and economic system, because it was unjust.

@@PlayfulCloud3here’s a quick summary for you. Applying the laws of physics to design and build spacecraft to overcome every challenge and difficulty that came with that and led to men flying to the moon.
Religious extremists high jacked airplanes and deliberately flew them into the world trade centre and pentagon killing thousands for their “cause”.
The first was a worthwhile cause in our quest for discovery and understanding of the universe. The second was needless and pointless cruelty and futile efforts to publicise bigotry and brainwashed religious ideology.
Hope that answers your question
HAHAHA.. now THAT was a great statement! Thank you!
The interesting thing is, science was "invented" because people were trying to understand the world around us and the creative force behind it... In effect, they were trying to understand God. Most problems with religion of ANY type are when MAN tries to shoehorn THEIR beliefs into God's existence.
Sorry, but that is a very balderdash-y statement. There is absolutely no verifiable proof or evidence of any kind that anyone can show that connects any god to any thing or event on earth or the universe. "It had to be god" is only evidence of ignorance. There is no god.
@@georgetinger5124 I was speaking of things from THEIR viewpoint. Science has been around (under one name or another) since people have began trying to LEARN instead of react instinctively. The word/name God might not have been created in their vocabulary yet, but trying to make sense of things DID lead to belief in something BIGGER than them. Understanding HOW and WHY drove them. It, in effect, was their God. Chasing that was their RELIGION. And their science
@WilliamRoop-xt6rp
My apologies for the misunderstanding. I do get frustrated with many religious folks giving circular arguments about their god being the creator of all.
@@georgetinger5124 no worries... Discussion and presentation of viewpoints are the basis for both good science and deep theology. When people stand fast on their BELIEFS without allowing other viewpoints, both stagnate.
@@dianahill5116 why, yes... Yes it was. Since invention is the process of discovery, then (from mans perspective) EVERYTHING was invented, whether it was actual objects, concepts, or the organization of thought.

Religion is divisive not constructive.
How we got well balanced universe out of entropy is the question to be answered by Dr Tyson
The Bible begins in science fact. They had no clue of celestial 10:56 processes at that time. Sure wording. But to look past, and see the science of it all is incredible!

Sadly enough alot of people will never realize GOD is real until HE takes Himself, which is the breath that we breathe, away from us. And wake up only to be Judged by "The Unknown"
What is funny about religions is they are never ever stop their unseen beliefs 😂🤣😂
God is Faith belief and spirit who is our creator and owner of our lives, believe and you should receive!
...more bullshit than you can imagine.
If it could be proved that some sort of god exists then scientists would accept the findings however if a negative could be proved ie that god does not exist and never has done then I doubt very much that the religious would change their minds. Therein lies the difference.
That "proof" will never be publicized. Mental health issues would skyrocket.
Physics and metaphysics have the same ultimate reality. Those who see conflicts are confusing the principle with practice.
2 Matthew 69:420 - And Jesus said, “As I depart, y'all come together, like butt cheeks, 'cause I'm the shit.” Then as he ascended into heaven, he made a “W” out of his hands and said, “WU-TANG FOREVER!”
Leviticus verse 6:66 says pick up sharp sticks and shove them up your assicus

Better Jesus than the one in the bible for certain:P
So true!
Do the people using the god of the gaps argument at least consider the possibility that it's a different god than theirs?
I don’t think they do 😮
We have one thing in common. We can all marvel at the creation of the Creator.
Am I to believe that the universe was created by something bigger and more powerful than the universe. Something that wasn't created? It makes more sense that a million smaller causes caused a singularity which caused the universe.
Do you really think an unknowable creator is better defined that the singularity that is called for in the Standard Cosmological Model? Fine. But, before you say anything else, do the math, construct a competing model. For you have arrived at the table empty-handed.
Yes if I had just one percent of those odds I would be kicked out of every casino for cheating. They would know something was wrong. Take care
I’ve always thought of god as more of architect. A builder, who put things in motion rather than a guy who waved a magic wand. I think the concept of god is way more complex and deep than just bible verses. My god is an intellectual, scientific minded creator.

I never believed in religion as a child and don't believe in it as an adult and never will.
Neil seems like a nice person
All religious people are not cut from the same bolt of cloth. I’m so happy to hear a distinction drawn between fundamentalists/literalists and and others who understand that the Bible has no place in science education.
People who says the bible has no place in science are those who loves to brag and inflate themselves before others. Only deflated people love to inflate themselves!
All Neil is trying to do is learning from nature. There is finite to our understanding and intelligence. The universe has a lot of secret we all don't understand
That's where you are mistaken. In an eternal environment, there is no necessity for a beginning. Its outside the realm of our understanding.Thats why God said I Am that I Am.A simple statement of obvious existence. He says ,take it,or leave it,that's just the way it is,I have always been. There is no beginning,or end.Thats how He can promice eternal life to all those who love Him and His Son.He has already existed more than eternity to eternity.See it's just not graspable to the human mind, that passed as the wind.
YES...THAT SOMETHING WAS GOD!!!! THE CREATOR, THE ALPHA & OMEGA, THE BEGINNING & THE END!!!!
A very good friend once told me: "Spending eternity kissing the ass of some self-indulgent tribal deity sounds like a drag to me".

Top Ten reasons individual's can label themselves Christian.
10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.
9 - You feel insulted and “dehumanized” when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.
8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.
7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the “atrocities” attributed to Allah, but you don’t even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in “Exodus” and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in “Joshua” including women, children, and infants!
6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.
5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.
4 - You believe that the entire population of this incestuous planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs - though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most “tolerant” and “loving.”
3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in “tongues” may be all the evidence you need to “prove” Christianity.
2 - You define 0.01% as a “high success rate” when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.
1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.
Universal truth is not measured in mass appeal
As a physicist myself, I think the notion of a god is just wishful thinking.
