My worst camping experience was in the rain. A black bear got into camp and tore up alot of gear and hauled off with my pals backpack. It's also the best because my pack still bares the scars of one of the most memorable outings I've had.
Never EVER go somewhere you don't know because somebody told you. You should have gone there during the day, when you could see what was around, and establish whether it was abandoned or not. I take two headtorches and a flash light, to be certain that I wouldn't be walking in total darkness. If you broke your leg, who would even know you were there? I would not want to go into that house, by myself, in complete darkeness, only to find homeless people or drug addicts living there.
Stephen send the link to the video when you complain about your tent. Sadly you are not the first to have that problem and they are usually good at sending replacements. The multi point on the poles is a weakness for several named brands and i would never have a tent with that design of pole. You could have been on a multi day hike and been in a lot more trouble than you were. I personally only use Hilleberg as after 40 years of camping they are the best. I am not a tent snob I buy what is best for me.. My Primus multi fuel stove is decades old I have recently bought a Soto windmaster for ease and weight. I use the cheapest pots as they don't last any longer than expensive named ones. Excellent video bud.

I was going to mention Merell Hut Shoes on a previous vlog up the mournes (you had red slippers) , seemingly discontinued now. The hut shoes had a I think vibram sole suede upper, slip on with slight heel lip to stop 'em slippin off. It's scary when a good product goes missing 😬😲

Thanks! So that shot was a composite as the stars were a Timelapse video that I had in my library. Then the bottom part was a real-time video of me walking past. But it matched up perfectly with what I could see with my eyes that night. Actually quite easy to get that kind of Timelapse shot with a GoPro, they have a built in “nightlapse” mode now.
Just good practice for staying outside over night. If you can watch the fire dim to ashes before heading to sleep and don't use light preparing for sleep. Your eyes will be adjusted waking up rather than pure night blindness.
I don't really do 'worst experiences' because even if it lashes it down, i love it so damn much! I had a jumpy moment last time i was out overnighting in the Woods. At about one am a deer did its little barking 'back off' thing about five feet from my tent. It made me jump out of my bloomin' pants! 😂 Kind'a forgot what they sound like, then BOOM! Right out of the black! Shame you didn't have an Apple for your Horse Friend. 👍
Thanks Dave! Yikes, exact same boots? Hope you got a refund. seems impossible to get a pair of synthetic boots that someone hasn't had a bad experience with. The similar Salomons had loads of bad reviews.

This comment is pretty late but if i was in the woods at night or even outside of my house at night & i saw a pair of eyes approaching me i'd be like well i guess that's it i'm getting murdered tonight by some monster or demon or wild animal & i'd probably panicking very badly in my mind
Added the link in the description as the others pointed out. it doesn't have great audio quality (I used a separate audio recorder) and the IR lights don't reach far but it's cheap and it does the job.
Ummmm @11:01 roughly it sounds like you’ve picked up an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) on your camera….as you’re speaking, I can hear “BYE…..….STEVE” in the background. Have a listen and see what you make of it. Perhaps the ghosts really were watching you. 😊
Wild camping at night are you mad, if you must set up during the day and be nicer to your equipment! Or stay in a nice warm house, if only we could afford that, with a really big fluffy quilt xx
