This video enhanced my drumming same day. I have been playing four months now and this video has completely opened up my drumming and helped me bridge the gaps. Thank you so much!
Excellent vid. I've been playing for 40 years but never really explored RLK before. I seem to be doing some of accidentally already but this is ace - time to get practicing! Thanks very much.
I’ve been playing years but overlooked a lot of this kind of stuff and never really thought about what I saw doing. Now when trying this it’s hard!!! But very satisfying when it comes together and sounds good and markes sense!! I’ve been playing these kinds of rolls but very importantly not really adding in the kicks right like this.
I have trouble with thinking in LRK terms for some reason. It paralyses me. But curiously believe I'm already able to play this automatically. That is not meant to sound overly confident at all. But like driving a car I would struggle to tell anyone how it's done...any thoughts Dave? I'm not a beginner but by no means would I say I'm proficient 🤔
Hard to know exactly what's going on through message but I'd say it's probably that your body is used to running on autopilot, playing what it knows and is comfortable instead of 'knowing' what you are doing. What i find really helpful is counting to ensure the rhythm is accurate and then singing or saying the sticking. All of this is done slowly to allow your brain to do all of that. Try it out with one pattern you feel very comfortable playing. Limit yourself to ONLY those 3/4/5 notes and see if you can play just that sticking for 1m. Move it around be creative but DON'T deviate from that sticking. Hope that helps but feel free to reach out for any extra help if you need it
Hi Dave, real great content over a lot of years. May i ask you for the name of the program at 3:49 you're writing your notes with? Thanx for an answer. Greetings from Germany.
Hi mate, glad yoy like the videos! Thats just GrooveScribe by Mike Johnson. Its free and easy for most stuff. For anything more complex (the later fills in this video for example) i use Musescore 4. Also free....slightly less easy
Fixed the audio issue from yesterday folks! Enjoy the video and I hope you head to the shed and put these ideas into practice

Glad it helped!
The course on my site The Process came from my inability to do anything with RLK. Glad you liked the video
Sounds very good Dave
