I haven't tested a ton of irons, but recently fitted to Mavrik pro. Incredible combination of buttery feel, forgiveness, workability and distance- ball really jumps off face when middled. I have best results with softer balls yielding more predictable yardages and bite.
@@marnix9800 I prefer the: compact head with thinner top line at address, less offset, crispier turf interaction (for me) greater workability, more consistent yardages. My miss is a thinny-toe shot that Mavrik handles far better ( 3-5 yards loss vs 8-12 with pro roughly) but still preferred Pro overall. I went from Ping i20s to these and felt like a nice leap in performance and feel. Hope that helps a little.
@@serofibrinous Thank you for your reply, it helps indeed. There are a lot of sets on the market so it is pretty hard to decide which set would suit me best. A lot of good brands have nice sets on the market, I guess I will need to try a few.
Not a huge fan of the juiced lofts, but the ball comes off so well. Was fitted with stiff shaft and bought standard set 5-AW last weekend. Great review! Thanks!
27° for a 7 iron... Of course the ball goes further than with my 30° 7 iron... Is it due to artificial intelligence or just to marketing intelligence ? Moreover, is a 51° still a SW ? That's my Gap Wedge's loft. I really wonder how it performs on bunkers shots.
Marketing. Delofting clubs and advertising them as longer. One would have to be silly to buy into all this nonsense. Plain truth is current iron technology is very very little changed from a decade ago. What has mainly changed is the marketing of irons by lowering the lifts, and babbling about “hot faces”. PGA limits how hot a face can be so any manufacturer that claims their faces are hotter and hotter is simply lying unless they have intentionally been manufacturing previous generations of irons well below the PGA face limits. Laughable that people buy into this nonsense. Want to get better? Actually work on your swing, and stop trying to purchase better performance.
The Pro players iron seemed to be just as forgiving as the huge Max iron, or the Max iron appeared to be no more forgiving than the Pto iron. Dispersion of your iron shots seemed to be all over the place. Some shots going almost 200, some shots in the mid 180’s, and some shots in the low 170’s.
Took 5 minutes (plus) to finally get the image that all decent golfers want (a look down at address) yet all reviewers (except a precious few like Rick shiels or Mark crossfield) don't do. Don't wait. If your a as self described a golf iron expert... Show what people want a completely looking down as you would a club... At address.
The mavrik irons definitely offer more forgiveness but if you are used to the forged feel of a mizuno then we would say try apex first. Just make sure you try as many options & variations as possible and get properly fitted by a pga pro 👍
Yeah, his dispersion looked like it was all over the place, and varied lengthwise from the low 170’s yards to the upper 190’s on all three irons. And the MAX iron did not seem to do anything meaningful to alleviate mis hits or help dispersion on mid hits versus the smaller head PRO model. Not sure how having a 7 iron (a scoring club) with a near 30 yard length dispersion on similar hits helps improve one’s score?????? 😆 😆
None of these irons are really aimed at Ryan and the way he strikes the ball. Also.... like any club if you spent time with them you would get used to them and the gaps would close. At the end of the day, these numbers are only relevant to Ryan. Everyone else will get their own unique results.
If these irons are not aimed at him and his stroke then why the heck is he the one test hitting them on a launch monitor? If what you are stating is correct the entire demo shown is pointless, no? It would be like me test hitting an XX stiff shafted driver - completely meaningless!
Sorry golfshake your response makes no sense. Distance dispersion is a well known issue with "game improvement" irons because the face flex creates wider ranges of ball speed. If your point is that these are not for good golfers (measured but reasonably consistent ball striking) who won't expect consistency regardless, then fine I guess. But no point in this review at all then.
We literally get to hit a handfull of shots with each iron and with game improver irons like this, these type of results are common. The lofts are strong (the same as Ryan’s 5 iron) so when you nail one, it goes the same distance as a 5 iron. This distance gap is far more apparent when someone of his clubhead speed hits them as opposed to an average club golfer, as the extremes of good and bad are less noticable (hence why these type of clubs are aimed at that market). The reason Ryan tests these products for us, is because he is a PGA professional, has been custom fitting for over 10 years and have tried hundreds of different types of clubs 👍
Great vid! Differences in tech to the Epic? Sounds like it has the same floating tungston and 360 face, but also includes AI and is cheaper? Sounded like it was the new flagship?
Loved the comment about going to town on the R&D. I would agree. They didn’t on the name though. You could come up with a better name in 60 seconds than the one they chose
I'm not looking for distance in a game improvement club. I want accuracy and forgiveness. If I want more distance, I will club up. The strong lofted clubs are confusing my game and creating gaps in my yardage.
the strong loft in this case isnt for the distance. the trajectory is stillthe same with these clubs. just got them and theyre ver forgiving and nice compared to my old callaway irons. I also get some extra yardage but thats more because of the new technology compared to my 10 year old irons
Callaway have produced some really pretty irons over the last couple of years, the last ugly set was the Rogue iron. Sadly the Max and Standard irons are as ugly as the Rogue. The Pro is fairly nice looking but not as good as Apex Pro. As for performance, based on the video they are definitely not for me, spin rates are low (Pro) to stupidly low (Max). The odd thing, based on the Callaway web site, is that standard Mavrik irons have stronger lofts (27 degree 7i) than the Max (30 degree 7i). If I played the Mavrik standard I definitely would not carry a 5i possibly not even a 6i as the lofts are so strong. IMO the Apex range are better irons, certainly a lot better looking, and with better spin a more controllable and functional iron for any mid-high HC player or better.

Why did you pick the Pro over the Standard? I am currently looking for a new set so checking all the reviews and comments.

Great to hear!
Just got fitted for irons and the Maverick was what worked for me. Close second was the TM sim. Finally upgraded from my 20+ year old Cobras
👍

Great to hear!
Question- I have a friend who wants to pay me $500 for my used Callaway Rogue X. Should I do it and upgrade to the Callaway Mavrik irons?
Great video , thanks 🏴
Glad you enjoyed it
The Max 7-iron is actually 30° loft (more than the standard Mavrik irons).
Thanks for taking the time to reply
Mavrik 7-iron 27 degrees, Mavrik max 30 degrees and Mavrik Pro is 30.5 degrees
Ryan, the loft on the Max iron is 30 degree.

Was it 5 minutes you enjoyed though? 😬
i totally agree with this
Did you enjoy it though Matt?
Mav Pro, Mav Reg vs Apex in terms of over all forgiveness vs my current 919HM? Im looking for something little smaller...

Should club speed be the same when hitting different irons ?
Yes
Length and weight will have an effect on this
Length and weight will have an effect on this
Is the standard Mavrik or the max closer to the rogue x?
Hmm... probably Max, but you should really go and try them all with a good custom fitter 👍
What good is a 7 iron that has fifteen yards of distance variance between similar strikes?

They look similar to the Legacy irons Stenson uses. The ones only released in the Asian market years ago.
👍

Epic flash & Apex are still in the range. These are the first using full A.I techniques 👍
I don't get channels that ask to subscribe at the beginning of the video. You have to earn the subscription!
Big question is... did we?

They really have. Very impressive.
so in your opinion, what sort of handicap would you recommend for each of the 3 irons?
That’s so hard to say... you really need to go and try them all!

Are they going to be offered in a forged version?
Don’t think so. They have the Apex & Epic Flash.
Sim vs Mavrik ??? Irons
At some point 👍

We really like them 👍 With any product, what suits one won’t suit another. Get fitted is what we always say.
You lost me after a few minutes.
