You've hit the nail on the head. Campervans offer so much freedom and flexibility, albeit, at a cost. We've been in a campervan for nearly 10 years and have no plans to change that as most of our best memories have included our campervan. A lot of people get on a plane each year for a holiday, our holidays for the past 5 years or so have been in the van, travelling around the Alps and surrounding countries. Nothing is perfect but a campervan isn't far off.
We bought ours last year, love it but maybe don’t use it as often as we would like to. One lesson learned was that we bought a brand new t6.1 all singing all dancing, solar panels, hot and cold water, body kit, big wheels, automatic etc etc. I absolutely love the look but realised now we could have bought an older, cheaper, much more basic van that would 100% do the exact same job as the van we have now. We probably got sucked into the mod cons and looks part more than practicalities. Still love it though, hoping the weather is better next year 🤞. Really insightful genuine video.
First video Iv seen of yours and this is exactly what I think. Since getting our van we suddenly go places we’ve never been before, that we easily could have gone in our car, but it’s just more fun in the van! Have a drive, make a cup of tea. It’s all about the adventure!
We got ours last year. a 2023 with 1500 miles on the clock. We bought it from a bloke who won it on an online raffle but hardly used it, saved a fortune not buying it new. Love it to bits, best thing we've ever done. We travel a lot due to wife's business and save a small fortune not using hotels as often. France and beyond next year. Travelled the world the last few years but can't beat setting off in the van around this country.
I have a small camper van that I use shout solo trips, then when the hubby comes along we tow a caravan and use that as a base and the camper as a day van. Best of both worlds.
We're on our second T6, first one we purchased already converted but I wasn't happy with it so we sold it and purchased a panel van. Had that converted to our spec, it's been great. We've been all over the UK and Europe in it. Absolute freedom and great memory maker for the kids ❤ I've also got handy with the spanners doing all the servicing and tinkering myself - this is also an enjoyable part of ownership for me.
The best thing about a van for me is getting to the start of the hike the night before. For example finishing work on a Friday and then driving up to Glencoe or something. I love waking up and not having to do any travelling.
Great video Murray - and very timely. Just bought my first campervan from a company in Perth. Have been climbing the hills with my dog for the past couple of years and getting too old for rising at silly o’clock to drive for miles. Looking forward to drivjng south in the evening, having a leisurely night and heading up the hills after a good night’s sleep. After watching your video I’m now also looking forward to a lorne sausage and black pudding roll when I get back!
@ Hi Murray - got a really good deal from Struans on an Adria Active Duo which looks like it’ll work well for me and my dog - Lewis a fairly large Australian Labradoodle. Have done most of the Munros up this way (north of the Great Glen), quite a few in Perthshire and most of the Cairngorms but now having to travel a good bit further.
Bought a new T6 panel lwb van (2017) and had it converted with 2nd hand Caravelle interior, diesel heater, swivel seats and inverter. Larger wheels and tyres lift it visually. Mobile office and liveried for business. Love it. Joolca gas cylinder shower plus Portaloo. Pop top can open in those plentiful clear summer night skies (!) fully for star gazing. Neighbour opposite swapped his posh BMW estate for a new T6.1 and he and his wife fight over who takes it. They no longer have to play Tetris with stuff for 2 children and dog. Love mine.
Love seeing campervans being used for their intended purpose. We fit a lot of lithium power systems these days, which allow you to power a microwave or air fryer from the battery. Most people don't use an oven very often, same as you.
I've gone down the larger Ducato route and then back to a VW transporter 6.1. Far far rather the smaller van for all the reasons you state and use it as my daily driver. We have a Bilbo's van with a side raising roof, you can stand in the whole length of the vehicle. Absolutely love it.
Just sold our VWT5 LWB after 13 years. Having completed all the "nuttalls", all the "wainwrights" without a van and numerous "munros / corbetts" we decided to go back to a tent. Staying on campsites has become far too expensive these days. And we can carry on our hill walking without the additional cost of another vehicle, no more costly repairs (last year we had to spend £5k on a new engine). Ask me in another year if I will miss it, i think not.
I had a touring caravan years ago, a fully serviced pitch was £11/£12 a night. 3 years ago we were paying £50/night. Lots of people wild camping for that very reason.
Thanks. Nice, presentation. I bought a second hand VWT6 Transporter with 29,000 miles on clock. Just put a memory foam mattress on struts with sliding drawers underneath. Insulated the whole vehicle with sound proofing too..what a great van,,the freedom and t 6ft 2ins great to stretch the legs when stopping to rest. Must get up to Scotland soon from London.
I'm on my 5th van! It's an essential part of my photography gear! Without a van I wouldn't be able to go to all the places I go to. I like to park up somewhere close to get landscape shots especially for sunsets and sunrise. Most of the vans I have had were japanese, a vw (a very old one!) and during Covid I changed to a Talbot as campsites required that you had your own facilities. Currently with a Toyota and set up for myself and the dog. I agree re the oven/grill, had one in the Hiace but only used it for toast!! I don't use a crate for the dog as I use the seat booster strapped around the seat which I think its fine for a small dog. I very rarely use the pop top, (only if I'm going to be on a campsite for a couple of nights). Mainly because I might scoot to another location for a photo and don't want the hassle of pulling the pop top down! And miss the light! The Talbot was a high top and was a nuisance when you couldn't get into a car park due to a height barrier. Also (probably because it was quite old) the roof vent thing got blown off on South Uist! The Covid era however has inflated the price of vans but I think they are coming down a little now. And the other downside was all the folks that got a van or rooftop tent and toured around Scotland, parked where they wanted and some leaving a mess that resulted with unhappy locals. A positive was Forestry and Land creating Stay the Night scheme and some Aires established around Scotland. I prefer a smaller van and tend to keep it under 6metres (length) as 6metres length plus is a higher cost on the ferries! I wouldn't be without a campervan, it's an essential and keeping an eye on the weather forecast I can decide on spur of the moment to head off for another adventure!
We’ve had our 2017 short wheelbase t6 for 4years now, love it to bits, it has a diesel cooker/heater so no gas onboard, it also has a 250 watt solar so no need for electric hook up, hot and cold water and a shower fitted to the lift up back door.
Great insight for everyone thinking of getting one.bit expensive but they seem to hold their value but priceless for the likes of yourself especially on bad days when you have been out to come back to. Them lorne sarnies looked divine
I had a self built VW T5.1 for 5 years. It was amazing, the freedom it gives for an easy night away is fantastic, the opportunity to get changed out of the weather, faff with kit, make a tea etc is no small thing. Sold it a year ago and have a caravan for base camping at campsites, which is also great as no annoying packing away every day to drive to a new hill, but do really miss the van. Time for another next year
Just a little tip Murray, get yourself an Ecoflow power station, that way you can run an airfryer, microwave etc, but moreover you can use it to charge your van, it kind of acts as a electric hookup. For£500 or so its a great little add on
Thanks Murray , I found this informative and insightful. The running costs including storing or parking are often elements that people dismiss, Good Effort
When it comes to camper vans, motorhomes or caravans there is no such thing as "perfect"; it's always a compromise. Chasing perfect will break your heart, your brain and your wallet!
Exactly it’s just a tool to get you out there I wouldn’t save 10 years for a vw badge that will massively drop in value the more miles you put on it ,5k will get you a descent Renault Master Relay or Transit and self build it out
Once you've had a campervan for Hillwalking and Mountain biking it's difficult to go back as the convenience is a massive benefit Especially in winter time where most accommodation options have closed or it's a 40 mile round trip and the limited daylight Means you have mo4e time on the hills. Havingva campervan also makes you more flexible and change plans at the last minute due to poor weather e.g. Great video Murray and it overs great insight for someone considering buying one.
The convenience factors far outweigh the costs and other hassles, especially the way you use your camper van. There aren’t that many commercially available accommodations next to where you base your adventures, and the ones there are may not always have vacancies. You are guaranteed vacant accommodation, and at the most convenient place! May the camper van live long, and may you continue to prosper from it. Cheers, and ATB!
Hi Murray we have an old Autosleeper Symbol and it's been absolutely brilliant getting to places that we would have never been Great video and honest. Saving like you did and glad you love your van too
I have a T6 VW camper. It's freedom and independence. Tyres etc all cost more but it is a small haven to base yourself from. I have never turned the seat round, never used the oven or hob! and only used the sink once. I do put the roof up in summer, but rarely use the awning. Because I travel alone with 3 medium size dogs there is never room. The bed stays down and everything gets stored underneath. It's meant to get a habitation check annually but after paying £200 odd for two years, I couldn't see the point when I wasn't using half the stuff. I take a tent big enough to stand up if I'm basing myself from somewhere for several days. I eat in cafes or takeaway snacks and brew up on my camping stove. Should I have just got an empty van?....maybe, but it love the fact it gives choices and would not be without it.
timely video, as I'm in the process of thinking of getting something very similar. And I remain, as ever, envious of your enlightened access laws north of the border.
Fascinating wee review Murray, and long time no see. We're recent converts to our SWB T6.1, and have a bifold poptop roof in ours. We're both tall but are able stand throughout the cabin. When there's two of you it's handy to sleep 'upstairs', leaving the 'downstairs' free for living in. We've taken the van abroad, where campsites are much more reasonable, and better set up than our experiences in the UK. Hopefully this is changing with the increase in community supported aires/limited amenity sites.
Bought a MWB Fiat Ducato, this weekend will be my 5th week of the build (empty van when I bought it) at 6'3" I needed the extra height and the Ducato is wide enough to get a 6'3" long bed across the back. Just put a window in the slidey door today :)
Interesting video Murray thanks. In my experience of boats motorhomes and caravans it’s always a compromise. What suits you best at one point in time can change in another. Enjoying them when you have them being main thing!
I have been wondering about your van, so very useful! Just bought a Peugeot Expert 2018. We will convert it ourselves so it won't be as fancy as yours, but it will get me and my dog out on small hiking adventures. It's also our daily drive so I opted for the normal wheelbase, but I will find a place for a toilet or at least a bucket! I've come from a Peugeot Partner, so this is a huge upgrade for me 😊 Thank you for all your beautiful videos! 🙏
Always been an ambition to have a campervan when I was active on the hills. However I have always had a touring caravan which I used a lot to get to the hills, however only good for main roads and that is where the campervan is better. Nowadays retired still going outdoors I have our 8 meter twin axle van that is great to come back to but would never dream of hitching up to drive to Glenshee. So for what your are doing is great. Our oldest daughter has a T5 and are away in it most weekends going to Kinlochourn, Loch Arkaig and just places I would not go in the caravan. Great video as always.
I've got a T6 as well, it's a total game changer, all be it an expensive one. Im saving for chunkier tyres and steel wheels now, rather than the alloys. I occasionally have my tea in it whist it's parked in my driveway in Glasgow - escaping the moments of chaos of family life inside the house 😅. I have car too. It sometimes feels like I'm working just to keep both on the road though, my hand is never out my pocket. I need the car for work and the van for the solitude of the hills. I don't think I could do without it now, I'd much rather not have the car to be honest.😊
Hi, great video. I have just brought a vw 6.1 lwb, ordered through a convertible vw converter at the NEC. Van was the last of manufacturing models from EU. Can't wait for conversion. Brand new van was very expensive, but I see it as an heath investment for the future as a one-time purchase. 🎉
Great vid Murray. We don't have need of one right now but I appreciate you talking about the pros and cons of owning one. Shouldn't have watched this while hungry tho 😂
Murray. Great - don’t think I’ll be able to hold off much longer. It’s moving from the “could have” to “must have” category and this video is tipping the scales!! Catch you soon! S
Can’t believe you’ve had the van 5 years 👍 Definitely worth the money. Spent many years sleeping in my car at the base of hills and there’s just no comparison- although roof tents seem to be getting more popular.
Hi Murray im late to this one as ive been travelling. I really like the look of your van. It looks so comfy. I cant believe its 5yrs. Lexi always seems happy to jump in after a walk. Its great to go off for the day and take your creature comforts with you....Thank you.......Alioban ❤🐕
We have had our T6 since 2018 and it has been the most enjoyable van but it has also been the most expensive unreliable vehicle I have ever owned and that includes a Rover Maestro that I put 275,000 miles on the clock without a major fault!😊
I have a Volkswagen t5 based Autosleeper Topaz with the high roof running the full length and a seperate toilet/ shower at the back. I would struggle with a pop top since you cant move around without stooping. First camper van I have had but no intention of changing it.
I have had my vans for over 20 years I now have a large Mercedes its a flat on wheels I spend a lot of time out and about in Scotland with the love of my life he has four paws and a tail and we have found the secret of life contentment
@@ScotlandsMountains Vitally important question... where did you get your kettle? We're looking for one with a folding handle that we can fit in the sink!
Hello Murray, we have been searching a long time for a small campervan. After watching your video’s we think this is the perfect setup! Who is the manufacturer? We live in the Netherlands and we haven’t found a company who can make this setup yet. We hope to hear from you very soon, thanks! Regards Manuel
Hey Murray, we had the T6. 1 and changed to the Fiat Ducato, which also has a pop top. It's brilliant, we love it. Bathroom with toilet and shower with hot water is a massive advantage. It's not that big you get used to it. Have a wee look on our channel and you'll see a couple of review videos we have done. Still gets 35mpg same as our VW, so it's very similar in cost to run.
Great video Murray once again. A Ducato conversion would allow you a shower, which would be great for hanging up wet clothing. I don't think many have another bed, though, as they tend to cater for two persons. Some now have a pop top as well, which does provide this option, but they could be pricy. I suppose you have to weigh up just how many times you need that extra bed. Stay safe pal.
Hi Murray, very interesting comments on the van vlog!!! I’m just back from two weeks on Harris sometime in the van (California) sometime in a cottage. I too have recently had a new clutch, (and exhaust, brakes and batteries). I totally get your thoughts of perfect for one ……when Lucy comes with me so does the two dogs (in our case golden retrievers) it suddenly becomes very small so we are giving some very serious consideration to a bigger van, one thing it must have is standing room my back aches after a couple of days of stopping around….. great vlog, I’m still keeping an eye open for you on the hills in the hope our paths cross
I saw you with Gary in Harris on his latest video :) I’ve got about 10 videos en route from my trip to Harris a few weeks back :) the vans are great but I am tempted by something a little bigger 🤔 Thanks for watching Gary M
I have a red T26 (smaller than a T6) converted by Leisuredrive. It has a permanent hi-top and being of a plastic/fibreglass construction and the colour was fading in areas thar were hard to reach so I had it coated in colour matched Raptor which has improved the appearance. For choice I would avoid the low profile tyres and large wheels but glad you decided to stick with van life.😊
I've got a Citroen Relay I use. You can get them with a pop top for the odd occasion when your lad is with you. Bit of a nuisance in carparks though. May not be your usual thing but I enjoyed that video. Thank you.
Thanks that was useful. Makes us think about the size of van too now as were thinking something along the transporter size having a small Berlingo size van currently. Cute Lexi always the star of the show 😍
Love your video. I have a T6 White Autohaus conversion, bought this June. You are so lucky to be able to wild camp in Scotland. Really have to search out park ups down here in the softie south, and as a single older woman thats' not easy or even an option. Have only put the heater on once and worry about how much power it might use if I did? No solar panels though in Winter not so much use anyway?
Regarding a van you can stand up in, I had the VW with the pop top but had a transit custom L2H2 (long wheel base, same as VW but a higher roof) before that and have gone back to that with the bench seat set up and it offers so much more living space and room when the beds made up with the advantage of being able to stand up. There are newer swivel bases now that are so simple and easy to use to.
I've had mine for 18 months now and love it. Took a servicing plan out which saved me hundreds of pounds. The VW front captain chairs are fantastic and so easy to use. For a bigger van what do you think about the Crafter? Enjoy your travels.
Had my T6.1 also for about 5 years. Great for day trips, overnight trip and longer. It does feel smaller with more people or on longer trips. Might look to go slightly bigger next. But for now just back from a day trip going up Ben Donich (inspired by Gerry’s book 😃) great day for it.
I’ve a self converted lwb Citroen relay. Managed to fit a double bed in the back, bathroom and single rock n roll as well as a small kitchenette. Sometimetimes a bit of a tight fit through the country lanes but it’s a house on wheels. Love it.
Hi Murray. Blimey, is it 5 years since you got the van, where has that time gone. 😮 I think the van is mega, you’ve got it looking so good inside. It’s smarter than a lot of peoples kitchens in their homes. 🤣 All the best mate, enjoy the weekend when it gets here. 😃⛰🥾🏴🏴
Got the same van T6 LWB had it 8 years now, it’s my second LWB and totally agree the freedom you get is brilliant. I went with the LWB as I can get my MTB in the van for extra security.
🎉 you can absolutely have a second bed in a Ducato/Boxer/Relay…..if you do the semi sliding bed as per “our van plan” you can have the second bed underneath, where the seating area is. Best thing about this style, is that you already have bottom sheet fitted to the higher bed, saves hassle as per a “caravan style “ bed/ sofa , however you would need to make up the lower bed….
I was a camper van owner for 7 years, I sold my v dub after that time and being 6'3" I decided for a change and went for a larger self build Transit l3 h3, in my honest opinion it was the best change for me personally, no messing with poptops much much more room and more important a bed that's fixed.
I'm 6'5" and mangage quite comfortably behind the wheel in a T6.1 (although I wouldn't want to try if I were any taller) and sleep just fine in the back. Then pop top takes a few seconds to deploy or close so is hardly messing, and it'll just fit under a standard 2.1 metre height barrier - even a low profile hi-top won't do that.
I have a peugeot boxer autocruise rhythm sport. For me the only advantage of a smaller van would be, not having enough space on the driveway, having to use it as a daily runaround. Maybe slightly cheaper to run. My panel van is fine on single track roads. Fits 2 adults easily, has all the amenities, and at 6'2 I can stand up and have a bed that fits. What's more the value for money compared to vw is on another level. Obviously they don't suit everyone, but I love mine.
Am saving for ours. Mate of mine just got one, out of Struan's in Perth, 2 year old immaculate, we had a night (and a sesh) in it after climbing Stob Coire Easain
I totally get why you have the van. These things are only expensive if you don't use them. Yeah it costs money, but how much joy has it brought you and how much have you saved on hotels/B&Bs! #VanEnvy
A van is something that we thought about but since covid the secondhand market has gone silly with the prices. I was in the motor trade in the body side of things and the prices that people are charging for there old vans especially are living in dreamland. So hence we didn't bother. Catch up with you on the next one mate.
the vans are a gamechanger ..iv got t6 lwb hightop ..no need to crouch down ...I got shot of the 19""alloys and low profiles as soon as I bought the van and opted for 16" steels with all terrain tyres ..there a gamechanger in there own right ...run my microwave off solar panel ...nearly 5 years in myself and wish I got 1 years ago 👌
Hi Murray nice video,if I was younger I think we would have bought a camper van,we have been to Glenshee several times and it's always been misty I find it a bit depressing much prefer Glencoe stay safe regards from us both..
14 year T5 owner here. Lived in it for months on end. Loved it, would never have had some of the best times of my life without it. My advice, sell it before it hits 100K miles unless you like throwing good money away :) I agree that if I did it again I'd go for a slightly bigger van like the ones you're talking about.
They are expensive, why throw good money away on something else, I think the cost of maintenance far out way the thousands you spend on a sub 100k van. I’ve had my t5 for 6 years and spent around £3,500 on parts and it’s done 193,000 miles. Roughly £600 a year in maintenance 😊
@cedarcanoe you said "if you like throwing money at it before 100k miles" and now you saying trouble free only maintenance, you'll have to maintain your current vehicle so I understand your logic to be honest
Maybe I got a bad one, but it has had a hard life. Running costs and maintenance now are the equivalent of 3 weeks self catering holiday and I’m too far from Scotland to make weekend trips :)
Just a heads up- you'd be surprised how many car parks have height restrictions- and its more by the year as people try to squeeze campers out. So the pop top is invaluable.
I've a LWB T5.1 - Bilbos Komba with high roof. It's brilliant - and addresses some of your negatives. There's a lot more storage, i can stand up (6'1"), super warm. It won't solve your dog cage issue though.
Very interesting video Murray , I don't have a Volkswagon, so it wasn't quite as expensive on the outlay but I run a car too , so the service and tax ect can be painfull . Same here though , still think it's worth it , can shove the bike in it in 2 mins as well which is great .
I watched your video and your comments confirmed my choices I have made as I work towards my van being kitted out by the Ply Guys in Mid December. So please let me know what you think of my van set up when I post a video late December this year.
I must admit, I’ve been so tempted to finally bite the bullet and get a van. If that’s the night I’m thinking of, we where out camping near my town of moffat and had clear skies most the night. The aurora was one of the most spectacular things I’ve ever seen. I captured it on my channel but the footage really doesn’t do it justice just what an amazing night that was.
Weighing up your pros & cons the 'pros' come out on top by miles. I also notice you are running 20" wheels (as am I) and due to the narrowness of the sidewalls any rural flint punctures can render you stationary for 8 hrs as I found out and to add insult to injury if you don't carry a spare the recovery service will charge you £250+. Then have to wait while they find a tyre dealer. BTW, what a beautiful darling bouncy black mutt with a fluffy curly tail (& smart cagoule) ❤❤❤
Nice video thanks. Thinking about one of these myself for me and my greyhound. Must admit I didn't know about lwb maybe less common? Was also thinking I could get away with wild pooing but now you got me thinking
In everything in life there are no solutions, only tradeoffs. Opportunity Costs are valid concept, we have to decide which compromises we can live with.

Can believe it’s been 5 years Murray, that truly shocked me. I remember the video you introduced it. Wow 5 years just like that
You have carved out a very civilised style of life, Murray, and well done you!
First video Iv seen of yours and this is exactly what I think. Since getting our van we suddenly go places we’ve never been before, that we easily could have gone in our car, but it’s just more fun in the van! Have a drive, make a cup of tea. It’s all about the adventure!

Nice cuppa and welcome the Day,!!!
Different sights and sounds wild camping not for everyone...but Love it x
Wilderness is awesome
Cold but ultra awesome haha 😆 I
Thanks and welcome to the channel - hope you enjoy some of the videos over here 🙏

That sounds ideal - a great idea :)
We're on our second T6, first one we purchased already converted but I wasn't happy with it so we sold it and purchased a panel van. Had that converted to our spec, it's been great. Can I ask what speck did you do in your 2nd van as. I also would change speck if doing it again
The best thing about a van for me is getting to the start of the hike the night before. For example finishing work on a Friday and then driving up to Glencoe or something. I love waking up and not having to do any travelling.
Nothing at all 'sad' about doing the things that excite you and bring you happiness👍
Great video Murray - and very timely. Just bought my first campervan from a company in Perth. That was a very interesting video, Murray. Coming down off the hill and getting a Brew on - just great!

Thanks Harry- can’t beat a lot e sausage roll (with ketchup of course ;)
I had a self built VW T5.1 for 5 years. It was amazing, the freedom it gives for an easy night away is fantastic, the opportunity to get changed out of the weather, faff with kit, make a tea etc is no small thing. Sold it a year ago and have a caravan for base camping at campsites, which is also great as no annoying packing away every day to drive to a new hill, but do really miss the van. Time for another next year
Making tea in my van (and refrigerated milk to go in it) is one of the most appreciated things about my van.
Love your van, always loved the concept, but I went for a Hymer , a bit bigger , but still below 6m. Great space and ver reliable, have since 2016.
It's a lovely looking van Murray, well done for saving up for it, you've every right to be proud of yourself!
Well done Murray for the review.
It was nice to see you with the camper van and also taking Lexi with you.
When it comes to camper vans, motorhomes or caravans there is no such thing as "perfect"; it's always a compromise. Chasing perfect will break your heart, your brain and your wallet!
Indeed
Exactly right. Same for houses in location, location, location, except with campervans you can always change location!
@@chrissharplesphotography9748
Exactly it’s just a tool to get you out there I wouldn’t save 10 years for a vw badge that will massively drop in value the more miles you put on it ,5k will get you a descent Renault Master Relay or Transit and self build it out
Thanks for the very wise words!!
Once you've had a campervan for Hillwalking and Mountain biking it's difficult to go back as the convenience is a massive benefit
Especially in winter time where most accommodation options have closed or it's a 40 mile round trip and the limited daylight
Means you have mo4e time on the hills.
Havingva campervan also makes you more flexible and change plans at the last minute due to poor weather e.g.
Great video Murray and it overs great insight for someone considering buying one.
Lorne sausage! The very first thing I buy as soon as we arrive at our accommodation. Absolutely love them.
Looks like a fabulous Camper Van 🏕️! Enjoy all your fantastic adventures 🏔️
Good points Erin and I completely agree - don’t think I’ll. e selling the van just yet :)
Hi Murray we have an old Autosleeper Symbol and it's been absolutely brilliant getting to places that we would have never been
Great video and honest. Saving like you did and glad you love your van too
That vans fantastic and well done on the time lapse stunning mate .
I would love a camper van …. And you never speak rubbish…. Keep the vlogs coming
I’ve been thinking of getting one for quite a while, you’ve pushed me further towards it.
Very interesting view of van ownership. I have considered it but never pulled the trigger.
Exiting, good luck once you have it
I also have a T6 but am now building a VW Crafter MWB this gives head height and extra bed if you need it plus not to big. Great vids.
Think you should take the plunge - u won’t regret it :) 👍👍
Can’t believe you’ve had the van 5 years 👍 Definitely worth the money. Spent many years sleeping in my car at the base of hills and there’s just no comparison- although roof tents seem to be getting more popular.
I think the roof tents are superb 👌 would definitely have got one back before the camper for sure 👌 and
Hi Murray im late to this one as ive been travelling.
Ah brilliant - I must admit I love having the dog with me on the trips :) such good company :)
Thanks for watching

@@ScotlandsMountains Vitally important question... where did you get your kettle? We're looking for one with a folding handle that we can fit in the sink!
Beautiful photography sir.
An enjoyable and interesting video, as always thanks Murray.
I agree they are expensive and they have an ongoing cost to them but the fun and freedom is absolutely worth it. I love my van
Love the videos which feature your van, so this was up there with your best for me….really informative too👍
Great video Murray once again.
I saw you with Gary in Harris on his latest video :) I’ve got about 10 videos en route from my trip to Harris a few weeks back :) the vans are great but I am tempted by something a little bigger 🤔
Thanks for watching Gary

I have a red T26 (smaller than a T6) converted by Leisuredrive. It has a permanent hi-top and being of a plastic/fibreglass construction and the colour was fading in areas thar were hard to reach so I had it coated in colour matched Raptor which has improved the appearance. For choice I would avoid the low profile tyres and large wheels but glad you decided to stick with van life.😊
We have the high roof T6. And it definitely doesn’t look as cool 🤣 but storage wise, and standing up wise, it’s a winner
I've got a Citroen Relay I use. You can get them with a pop top for the odd occasion when your lad is with you.
Bit of a nuisance in carparks though.
May not be your usual thing but I enjoyed that video. Thank you.
Great vid... love the van and your videography...i love my gateways with my wife.....
Thanks for the review.
Love it.
Another great video, keep them coming👌❤️
Good to hear about van review as hoping to get one next year although not sure what !
Hi Murray.
Blimey, is it 5 years since you got the van, where has that time gone. 😮
I think the van is mega, you’ve got it looking so good inside. It’s smarter than a lot of peoples kitchens in their homes. 🤣
All the best mate, enjoy the weekend when it gets here. 😃⛰🥾🏴🏴
It’s smarter than my kitchen in my house (that might need upgrading before I buy a new van !! lol
Hard to understand him sometimes but like the warts and all review. I would definitely prefer this size of camper van over the bigger ones.
Wife had to earlier this year after 40 years.
Sold house etc so going for a flat on wheels 6.1
Fingers crossed I'll be cool
Am saving for ours. Mate of mine just got one, out of Struan's in Perth, 2 year old immaculate, we had a night (and a sesh) in it after climbing Stob Coire Easain
Great Allways Murray I often hire vans when in Scotland and just love them 😊😊❤
I totally get why you have the van. These things are only expensive if you don't use them. Yeah it costs money, but how much joy has it brought you and how much have you saved on hotels/B&Bs! #VanEnvy
thats a very good point Julian and I might steal that line "only expensive if you dont use them " love it
Thanks
M
@@ScotlandsMountains That's what I keep telling myself any! lol
Can’t really agree, I have owned a 2005 T5 105bhp for 10 years, 294.000km. Troublefree, only maintenance. Now own a 2019:LWB camper conversion
Awesome love it 😍
I've a LWB T5.1 - Bilbos Komba with high roof. It's brilliant - and addresses some of your negatives. There's a lot more storage, i can stand up (6'1"), super warm. It won't solve your dog cage issue though.
Thanks for your thoughts Murray, helps a lot!
I also notice you are running 20" wheels (as am I) and due to the narrowness of the sidewalls any rural flint punctures can render you stationary for 8 hrs as I found out and to add insult to injury
if you don't carry a spare the recovery service will charge you £250+.
Interesting video, I would like to get one.
