Thanks for another great Video Steve. And for those people watching, I just have to add one thing. As Steve has said before a camera or video cannot possibly capture the truly awe-inspiring beauty of the colour of the beaches, the sea and the size of the mountains besides them. So many beaches on South Harris have views which cannot be described. You HAVE to experience them to understand. There's a small coffee shop/cafe near the southerly point of Harris where you can sit outside at the end of a loch ( if I remember correctly) with mountains rising out from both sides of the loch. It truly is heaven on earth!

Thanks to Donald John also for giving us an insight into the making of Harris Tweed, with views like this from his workplace I would spend many a happy hour there. I do hope that there are future generations learning so that this beautiful tweed, craft and tradition is kept going on the isle where it belongs. Cheers.

I think you may find that the wind and (in South Harris) absence of topsoil does actually frustrate such cultivated - or even natural growth: there are many places the money could be better spent and with much greater results. Great video Steve! It took me back to my young days in 1984 when I toured Lewis and Harris on public transport. Took the train to Inverness, the bus to Ullapool, the ferry to Stornoway, buses around Lewis and Harris then the ferry to Uig, the bus to Kyleakin, the ferry to Kyle and the train back from there. It was a great trip. I remember being on the bus coming from Callanish and the driver flagged down the Tarbert bus so I could get off, run across the road and get on - out in the wilds somewhere near Leurbost. Took a bit of planning in those days - no google maps, internet or mobiles - just timetables, paper maps and a 'Freedom of Scotland' travel pass. Enjoy your Harris Whisky 🥃 Cheers! 😊

That was a wonderful trip and so well filmed and produced. Harris looks unbeatable in that sunshine. The landscape and beaches are so beautiful, I would love to visit again. When I was there in the 70s and 80s I remember seeing small piles of Harris tweed by the roadside outside the crofts. It was awaiting collection and left out in all weathers, I suppose a drenching of rain would do no harm. I never did see it being woven, thanks for showing that.

Loved that Steve. You may be right, Harris is probably the most beautiful island, but you’ve not done Arran, Islay & Jura or Mull yet…
Great to see you go to the Harris Distillery. The Hearach whisky is the main reason the distillery is there, but you you have to let the spirit mature for years and so a lot of distilleries have turned to gin and vodka to generate cashflow and establish their brand. The Harris gin though is the absolute best. Harris distillery is not the first one in the Hebrides. Abhainn Dearg has been going for about 15 years on the west side of Lewis. Barra will start making whisky shortly too and there is likely to be a new one in the Uists.

What fantastic views of Harris…the beach and its approach road reminded me of Western Ireland (the Links beach) wow!!!
I have always loved Scotland (in my heritage) and its rugged landscapes but had no idea of how beautiful Lewis and Harris were…a trip for next year perhaps.
Thank you Steve for a wonderful virtual trip !

Luskentyre is also my favourite beach and I spent an August bank holiday on it having a picnic and I shared it with friends and another couple walking their dog. If it was on the mainland or in the Med it would be spoiled. You were probably there at the right time before the midge made an appearance. You did have some great weather and a very calm crossing although that crossing is a lot calmer than the Ullapool route generally.

What a beautiful beach and the water was so clear. Too bad it wasn't a tad warmer. Just watching YOU drive on those very narrow roads gives me anxiety, lol. Another stellar video Steve.

Just got back from Culloden, Steve - on the Calmac to Harris next year, it's still looking beautiful.

I’ve just read Patrick Grant’s book Less and Donald John is mentioned. It was great to actually see him working and making such a quality product in quality surroundings. What a beautiful place Harris is, thanks for sharing

Hard to believe that beach is in Scotland! It looks so warm! My favourite is Praia Felix in Ubatuba, Brazil.

Favourite beaches on the Outer Hebs - Traigh a Bhaigh (Vatersay east), Vallay (North Uist), West Beach and East Beach Berneray - the East Beach is usually where I camp halfway through my cycle, and it looks over the Harris, simply stunning. It's crazy on the isles, when the wind drops, and 'cos there's not too many birds around certain areas, it's silent - it's why I love cycling them so much. Here's hoping you head to the Uists one day as they are far prettier than Lewis and Harris. Luskentyre is just the clickbait ;) As for DJ, keeping people like him on the islands and keeping the traditional industry alive is so important for our Scottish heritage. Re Harris Distillery - they made their whisky run first, and as that was laid down to mature, and given gin is made in the same type of still, they then made this to fill the gap until the whisky could be bottled and sold.
