I learned vibrato in only 6 months, and my secret is... wait for it... doing the excercises veeery slowly, with wide movements (similar to what Zlata showed here) at first, and more importantly -- practicing CONSCIOUSLY! Then I'd gradually increase the speed and decrease the width of the movement, while still remaining super focused on what I'm doing.
Another important thing is to keep your left arm and hand relaxed. Now, I know what you might be thinking -- who in the world told you vibrato is a relaxed motion?! But trust me on this one - if you don't relax your hand and fingers, you won't be able to learn vibrato properly! Or you will spend years upon frustrating years learning it..
Start with your 2nd or 3rd finger first (you don't have to use the bow at this stage), but don't press down your string, just do the excercise relaxedly; your fingers should move as if they're made of jelly. Then you should remember that relaxed jelly feeling and gradually increase the pressure on the string. It will seem impossible in the beginning, but you can do it! 🎶💪🏻
So if anyone's having difficulty learning vibrato, remember to stay calm, focused, relaxed, and don't rush!!
And of course, watch Zlata's tutorials, duh! 😁 It's always better to learn with a visual guidance than trying to make sense out of a written text! Even so, I'd be happy if my tips served as a bonus point to already existing tutorials!
    Happy practicing! 🎻🎶

Thank you so much! I have just started to try and learn vibrato and I’m only 14 so this helps so much. I think it’s quite hard at the start because it seems absolutely impossible but I really like the one exercise you showed. And the way you do it makes it look so easy. So hopefully I get it soon!

Very usefull, I just started the vibrato and was wondering why I have to make such large movements. I never saw professional violinists doing what I have to do 🙂 You clearly explain (and show us in the video at 2.20 minutes) how this large movements will become smaller and will end up in a beautiful vibrato. So I am motivated to get the feeling as soon as possible!

I can't bow while I'm trying to roll my fingers. T.T

Practice the vibrato movement with your finger on the soundbox while bowing whole bow on open strings and focusing on the bow flow. Check out my other vibrato tutorials in this playlist: ua-cam.com/video/w6wvAcx96rA/v-deo.html

I thought this will be easy coz im a guitarist. But doing vibrato in guitar vs violin is totally different approach and technique.

So basically the end result shouldn't sound like a wobble, siren or a mosquito sound... But it's ok to practice the siren when learning. 😄
