    Years ago Mo Pinell owned the Mohawk Lanes up in Rome, N.Y. I was a pretty good young left hander then. We had a 4 game classic league at 9 o'clock on a Friday night. The real action would start after bowling when we would lock the door and party til the sun came up! Which is a whole other story not fit to tell here. Anyway, talking. to Mo one night about having a bit of a problem scoring. He told me to bring him a ball I thought hooked 4 boards too much, he plugged the ring finger in my black Angle and drilled the Sarge Easter Grip in it without telling me what it was. I consistently bowling over a 1000 every set with an occasional 900. The man was ahead of his time with ideas about the game and gave me some valuable help that I still draw upon.

    Thank you for this video. I havent bowled due to aging and me breaking my hand 12 years ago, i used to be a 220 average bowler but last week i got one of my old balls drilled(white dot messenger from 2008 lol) by one of the shop owners here in my town, threw a 230,221 and 189 but after the 3rd game my ring finger was very very swollen to the point i couldnt bend at the end knuckle and thinking about just giving up on bowling until i came across this video, i may go out and buy a cheap ball and see what the pro shop thinks on this grip and try it out. Appreciate the information on this video and keep up the good work!

    Excellent! I have been curious about this grip. Although I am not willing to try it, because I don't think I need it, the video provides excellent advice. I feel like I already have more stress on my middle finger than my ring finger on a "conventional" fingertip grip.

    Just had it done last night. Rolled around 3 games on a Phaze III. Feels good so far and it seems like the ball "works" better. Maybe I'm getting more efficient motion? Have pain from previous pitch issues but seems less strenuous. Giving it time to get used to it. Thanks for the info! Extremely fortunate to have a knowledgeable pro that didn't automatically shut me down when I recommended it.

    Since I remembered having tendon issues from bowling 20 years ago, when I went to a pro shop last year to get a new ball so that I could start bowling again, I asked for the Sarge grip. The pro shop owner said “You don’t want that”. He also told me to throw away my brand new wrist brace that is supposed to help prevent tendonitis. So after bowling a few games for fun last year, guess who had tendonitis? Why are there so many “know it alls”!

    Hi Nick! Love your channel. I've recently started to struggle with discomfort the first knuckle of my index finger (where palm and finger meet). Been working with PSO on pitch changes, rolling grip, etc. Do you think a sarge would help relieve pressure from that area? Or, since this grip is intended to take stress off the ring, would it add more to that side of the hand? One handed, thumb in bowler. Thanks!!

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  7 місяців тому

      Not really sure that Sarge will help with index finger joint pain. Does it only hurt when you bowl?

  • @brandonferris8934
    @brandonferris8934 8 місяців тому

    Nick, when you get the Sarge fit right such that it almost feels like your ring finger isn't even in the ball, as you described, do you naturally get more axis tilt and rotation? I remember Mo Pinel often talking about reducing the influence of the ring finger if you want to increase tilt and rotation. One other question - just a curiosity - does that little vent hole intersect the ring finger hole somewhere below the surface?

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  8 місяців тому

      The grip never really affected my tilt. That’s something that shouldn’t always be static anyway. My tilt will change as I’m playing different parts of the lane.
      And yes, the vent hole hits the bottom of the ring finger to vent air.

    how hard is it to get used to this grip? I haven't thrown it yet, but ball is drilled and ready. guess I should just throw first few pretty slow.
    I gripped it to see what it felt like. while the ring finger was in the ball, I felt the ball on that finger on the left side of it and none on the right. not sure if that means the ring finger hole was drilled to much to the right. I'm a right hander.

    Nick, my 15 year old daughter has issues with squeezing her grip to tight at times causing her to carry the ball across in front of her body by the time she get her fingers out of the ball. Do you think the Sarge Easter grip might help with her grip pressure? She is left handed and throws 15# balls with finger tip grips with approximately 14 to 14.5 miles per hour speed and lower rev of 250ish.

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  5 місяців тому +1

      No probably not. I’d suggest maybe a refit or at least get the thumbhole more snug. The more she can relax her hand and grip pressure the better. She’s still growing so maybe the span needs to be addressed. A lot of times with youth it’s because the thumb is way too big.

    • @hfdsso14

    Plugged the ring finger in an existing ball and drilled the ring finger for the Sarge Easter grip. Went half and half with the pitch and it felt very comfortable. Came out of it clean.
    Only issue i had was I didn't feel locked in, if anything it made my middle finger feel like it was short/shorter. I kept my thumb at 1/8th reverse.
    Anything you can suggest to feel more locked in?

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  8 місяців тому +1

      It’s possible that the span there was measured a bit too relaxed. Does it only feel short on that side? Could also snug up the finger hole with tape. Snugger the better

    • @KC-zz1so
