Man I could 100% see myself as a kid doing this to a streamer I liked to watch. Kids do cringe shit. The crazy part of this is that I'm pretty sure many of those were adults. You said you enjoy people enjoying the game so I’ll tell you the story of my weekend. I had a hellish time installing ffXIV. It wouldn’t download for shit so I bought world renown Nord VPN and after changing my location to the next city over it finally downloaded with issue (YAY!) so I made my character and started the free trial on a non exp boost server because I’m a pleb (or a, whaddya call it, a sprout?) and I went forward to see what the game is. And I was hooked by hour 2, I don’t think I’ve spent this much time on a game since the Witcher 3. I quite literally spent the WHOLE weekend sitting on my ass playing video games like back when I had time to do that kinda stuff, it was incredible. I LOVE the one character can be every class and job, that’s awesome as hell, little confused by the crafting system but I’m getting there. The community is so far so good to new people. I got into the Titan fight with 2 other sprouts and a veteran and the vet just let us fail so we could enjoy our first time failing and learning. I’ve never had a vet do that before during a group finder instance, it was great. I guess I’m on some infamous erp server (Mateus I think) but haven’t really seen anything so maybe I’m blind or it’s isolated, nonetheless I hope it doesn’t screw me over in the future because I don’t want to have to start over or server swap XD. Anyway, end stor, but I’m taken by surprise by this game and thought maybe you would enjoy some random dudes excitement. Have a good one!

@@Cool3reeze ffxiv a huge ass game. Biggest issue I feel like people run into is literally that in itself. Realm Reborn as itself is “ok” but as time went on it really was just the groundwork for future expansions. Heavensward really skyrocketed FFXIV in terms of popularity, story, gameplay, etc. Stormblood was pretty great tho many will say they liked Heavensward more which is fair; the current ShadowBringers is most people’s favorite because of how long of a journey it’s been from the beginning up till here where it’s the huge climax. The next/“last” expansion EndWalker will mark the end of the story that everyone’s been following since Realm Reborn and 1.0, cannot wait to see how it finally ends

I was watching him watch this video and noticed that most of the time he is kinda looking at it clueless what josh is talking about , and tbh streaming is kinda like a personality thing that u just HAVE to have in order to get any level of success , compared to singing , you have to be born with a good voice so u can sing good , you eater have it or u don't . I felt josh is kinda giving him too much credit for something he does instinctively and subconsciously (very well ofc) rather than something he is constantly think about like a very well trained fighter or actor that had to devote decades to hone his craft and improve his competence to successfully execute his performance/ task at hand

About engaging with chat, this is why I find a new appreciation for games that allow streamers to pause during a cutscene. This allows the streamer to pause the game and engage with chat without missing the timing - especially when they wanna share a joke, because the secret to a good joke is timing.
By having pause-able cutscenes, the streamers can engage with chat by pausing and then come back to the scene without missing much.

Fun fact, the Japanese streaming community actually has a term for this: Zatsudan. It means something like "Talk Stream". They literally open up a stream and just talk to chat for hours and read Super Chats. It's amazing.
I bet Asmon can do something like that. Like, here's a 2 hour free talk block where he just talks to chat.

Being a god tier yt/twitch streamer or something in between also comes with shietty perks and you have to balance the scales if you want to be long term successful, either you give 100% of you all the time, like paying attention to the chat, to the game details simultaneously and entertain by being super creative in real time and suffer from a fast burnout, a very few can do it , but not most, or you do like Asmon does, which is a more relaxed way of interaction with his audience and playing the game, I don't think his seeking to be entertaining all the time to be honest, but I think he found his balance through out the years.

This made me appreciate streamers even more, thank you for sharing.
However, I am highly sceptic of that seven second attention span. Streamers loose viewers if they don't put out a personal ping every seven seconds? Has this been actually tested?
I mean, I get it. No one wants to watch someone just play the game without commentary - and Asmons reactions to ongoing cutscenes and dialoge do make everything much more fun and engaging.
However, I find it hard to believe that one can *never* take the back seat during for example a suspenseful cutscene.
People tune in for three hour long podcasts of two people just talking to each other off script these days. People can likely endure a minute of suspenseful silence if that's what the game is intending at that moment.

    • @ikikaera3402
      @ikikaera3402 2 роки тому

Very late reply, but it's important to keep in mind that the "average attention span" refers to the collective attention span of everyone watching.
One person can have one of several hundred seconds, the other for less than 7 seconds.
And while studies have been pretty divided on the actual value itself, it has without a doubt lowered significantly in the past few years.
Permanent interconnectivity, multiple monitor setups, mobile phones having advanced to an insane stage etc etc etc.
The major con of convenience is that it becomes detrimental to our very evolution as a human species, but we're still and will continue to make everything as convenient as possible.
But yeah, whether it's 7 seconds or 20 seconds or whatever, I think the point still stands.

I want a good look at the map and local terrain when the mob is hard to find. I don't need a tour of the public transportation system from zone to zone. I don't need to watch every second of every repetitive fight. Most of all, don't add a music track just because it suits your personal tastes. Display the maps, quest objectives, loot, and rewards for longer than a split second so I have time to hit the pause.
