Josh looks like a guy who's been to every streaming or UA-cam course possible. Often an empty mug in hand for the appearance of a homely atmosphere, all kinds of boxes in the background to look like "your man", appearance, gestures and intonation pauses in the right places. Dude is seriously prepared :D
He was or is a teacher, so he knows how to captivate the ones that are listening to him, I like that a lot too
The mug is full
"Three factions that hate each other but all coexist in the same towns" haha
just like UN
Sounds like America 🏈
How to create legit faction diversity. Have faction specific Wifu's lol.
sounds like the Balkans
game look like shiet
Can't swap to the biggest faction, that is fine. But you will just end up with one faction being essentially empty. Hopefully they have other systems in place to encourage balance.
thats why gw2 WvWvW was nice it was just servers against each other so u couldnt choose to be in the best one. later on ofc ppl PAID for server swaps to be in winning ones but those got matched up against each other then and also small servers got paired with other small servers so they could just like bigger ones have their max cap of players in WvWvW at all times.
But in New World i feel one faction dominates and then one will or has to die out to merge into 2nd best so they can maaaybe retake something thus killing the 3 faction dynamicc kinda entirely. They need to think of rlly good ways to rebalance this shit. But its already a good start u cant join leading faction later on. Im wondering now if it would be the play then to wait with joining a faction till u realize which one is the winning one or not. But honestly it would in a way ruin playing with friends but maybe they should just randomly throw u into a faction lmao and force balance this shit idk but they need to find a way to not make 70%+ of the ppl be in the same one
@@bobby45825 Ideally that would be great, but we all know that isnt reality.
@@bobby45825 Yes, but usually when you play an underdog in a game like this you get compensated in some form. In this game if your faction gets wiped out, you are going to get penalized and your progression and rewards will be hurt because of it. Because of this it seems like in the span of a week every server devolves into a dominant faction, a weaker faction, and a faction that no longer exists.
@@matthewdunphy8524 My Faction at the start of the beta was the under dog faction, now we control 1/3 of the map. And the map is evenly split between all three factions, as long as your company can become good at PvP, you will always be able to climb up from nothing.
Underdog buff: XP and currency boost for the lowest pop faction.
I predict a resurgence in WoW private servers because it’s obvious that the community can create a version of WoW the community wants without the toxicity of blizzards management.
I fucking hope so dude, I miss Nostalrius like you wouldn't believe
WoW pirate servers has huge problem - their playerbase. People on reddit are crying about "toxic mythic dps players" on retail, but just imagine the worst toxic keystone pusher, but as a WHOLE COMMUNITY. I played on pirated servers for like 10 years and i can surely say that like 80% of their playerbase is absolutelly brainded narcissistic a-holes without absolutely no shame, who would try to make you feel bad as possible even for a slight mistake you made, and even for things that are not a mistake, but still they think that "Any player should do"
@Dr. Van Nostrand the issue with blizzard on private servers is they don’t really go after private servers and for the most part they stay up. My friend asked multiple gms if it’s against tos to play on a private server and wasnt told no. If a private server is popular like nostalrius though and they just decide they hate it they send their lawyers and demand it shut down because they legally have that power. It’s such a ridiculous mindset to have imo
I am at a point where I just don't want to support blizzard anymore
@Dr. Van Nostrand for the most part.
"Slightly Above Average" for an MMO is an achievement that comes but once a decade. Maybe less.

I am enjoying playing the game but the leveling process is pretty ass, especially post 25. It’s wayyyy too grindy. The animations are super clunky and no animation canceling for dodge/block is unacceptable.
@Eric Dajernais Did he really though?
@@midderftw That game he mentioned has action cancelling ya damn casual. Same as dead angle attacks or charging a hit then turning, it baits out responses in addition to avoiding easy parries and gaining opponent information.
I’m here laughing my ass off at Asmon’s impression of the New World alligators…
It’s pretty on point. First time I fought one, I I thought it was cool it randomly hit me with the tail. Then I fought a few more and realized how easy their attack sequence is.

Honestly the game has been a blast so far, I've spent 50+ hours on the beta which is a lot for me since I don't have lots of free time and it went by so fast. I think long term it's not going to do great but at least for 6+ month's post launch it will be really fun.
ive had fun playing 25ish hours but not looking forward to playing those 25 again
I've played 100+ hours during this beta and had more fun than years of previous gaming toguether, also there has been a leak of new content already, and that includes 2 weapons, dual daggers and a void gauntlet with a possible new map
Yeah i think long term meh, for a good half a year and above it's gonna be quite a good time to spend on. But it needs qol improvements, it really needs to be worked on a bit longer imo. There's no minimap, the traveling in this game is absolutely atrocious, you are fighting the same 4,5 mobs everywhere in the world, they have no dungeon finder to que up for, you have to basically tell in chat you are looking for a group, the factions in the game have no lore and you don't understand why you choose one over the other, other players can bodyblock you, possibly trap you, you cannot swim and if you fall into deep sea you fall into the bottom. Mind you those are pirates and they cannot swim. lol Like there are many improvements to be made imo, before i can say, okay this is a contender in the mmo market, it definitely needs a bit morr variety in the content too, but the combat is super fun and it's cool it does play like dark souls a bit with the dodging attack and timing it well enough.
Whats the point if a mmo if its gonna be bad in the long term
TBH i feel the same, eveyone has had a blast. But i think endgame will not be that fun tho. IMO i enjoyed this game because it was refreshing to play something new and because they manage the imersion part of an RPG to perfection. Just walking in the open world and hearing people mine and shoot a musket miles away is kinda sick. Unfortunatley i don't see that feature as something exciting towards endgame, just like any game you will get used to it.
Also another thing that makes me mad is the oportunity for skins, like they are a few combination of skins and they don't look that good, trying to make your character look good in mmos is key, just look at GW2 (not that gw2 is the best game but it sure brings a lot to the table in this subject, legendary weapons look sick and make you feel sick)
Unfortunately Amazon only see this as a chance to grow in the gaming industry, not as a chance to make a great game.
It's a company they are focused on making money So sadly duh
cuz what company isnt? like these comments are so tired and played. you ppl act like money just grows on trees.
I feel that it's much too early to make that assumption (even if it's true, lol)
It’s Amazon. They aren’t a gaming company. They are a corporation. Anything they put out is about the money.
That being said, it’s the devs, game director, and crew you look to for the passion. They are the ones who are there because they want to make a good game.
Fingers crossed that the CEOs keep their hands off of it and let them make the game they want to make…I won’t hold my breath on that though.
@@ShadowProject01 Exactly bro, lettem know
It’ll probably take 6 months or so for them to work out some of the kinks, but it has a lot of potential from what I’ve seen

Bring back stagger, that is all thanks..
Outriders felt the same way… at first.
It doesn't. Poorly optimized. Need very good PC to make grouped activities

@@habibmate8466 How about instead of listening to UA-camrs who their only purpose is views and followers and give the game a fair chance?
Something tells me u just watched videos and never played the game.
The factions are a huge weak spot of this game imo. They don't feel different enough, it's like there's no 'lore' reason to root for whatever you choose, no drive to further a faction's goals. The whole thing seems so empty and artificial.
True. The pvp missions are just killing mobs and placing stuff too. So, it’s not like you’re required to fight ppl. Just run as fast as you can and run back lmao.
Sure there is, it's so you can control a boring place where your taxes will be lower. The game is literally so far from optimized that it destroys a 3070 in heavily occupied areas. This game is riddled with issues and only a week away from retail release and the company delivering it to us is literal garbage. This game will never be worth shit in my opinion.
Yeah they all just kind of come off as slightly different shades of pretentious asshole. Their reasons for wanting to kill eachother are nebulous and the personality and lore for each is lacking.

Yes it's not as great as people are making it out to be.
They are just so desperate for a new mmo.
I think so too. I dabbled with it via a friend's account, and it was fun, but I think it was definitely the "Honeymoon phase" as it really just doesn't seem to have serious longevity in its current form. It's close enough to release to judge by its beta, and without some serious creative additions, it just feels like a a waterd down ESO.
I disagree. I’ve put 100 hours into the beta. There are lots of MMOs I haven’t played that are technically “new” to me. But they just don’t interest me. This is the first time I’ve been excited about an MMO in years, despite the fact there are lots of other games that I could be playing instead.
@@Supernautiloid Agree. I'm at level 32 in beta and having a lot of fun. There's actually a lot to do and plenty of areas to explore. Some people might not like the openness of it. There's less structure than other games in the genre so people don't get that you have to make your own fun in the game, sandbox style. It kind of reminds me of old Ultima Online. I think its a good start and has a lot of room to grow.
@@Ripcraze trying to scale mountains, roll off them afterwards and see if you survive, run in to a high level area by accident and run for your life from mobs that throw kidney stones at you, constant pvp, you can hide in a bush and gank and surprise people, you can take your clothes off and go prone in a fountain and somehow create an infinite ouroboros human centipede circle in the fountain of mostly naked prone men. Pve is okay, fishing is kinda fun too, it's a very nice looking game especially grassland areas so even just standing around is enjoyable in a lot of places. The combat despite only having 6 skills max has a lot of depth to it, with positioning, combos, synergy of weapons, build, animation canceling and so on. It's seemed both fun and fair so far, I died because I sucked and I won because the other guy sucked more.
@@Ripcraze
The biggest problem the game has at this time is a lack of content. Nobody denies that. The game is very sandboxy and relies heavily on player-driven activities. Some love that (I do), while some hate it. But the foundation is there. The combat is fun and engaging. The world is beautiful and lush. It can only get better from here. The only way this game can fail is if Amazon fails to support it post launch.
I actually love the game currently. They have things they need to work on, but as of the last day of the beta. I love the game.
Never had the running issue. Boars definitely fight back now. Game has potential but so did so many others this year that failed miserably. It's not a bad game, it just feels like it is missing something to put it over the top.
You had the running bug
I agree
The game is actually so, so good despite its flaws! It’s definitely unique and able to stand on its own. If they fix and adjust some things it will be excellent, it has loads of potential.

For a first draft of dungeon bosses i have to say i was pleasantly surprised with the complexity. All bosses have multiple phases, in which they have different mechanics you have to deal with. Granted it's not hard, but at least it's not the simplest tank and spank.

This has been the most frustrating thing for me around New World. Your average guy has no idea that there is a huge difference between Amazon and Amazon Game Studios. They share a name and that's about it. The actual overlap between Amazon daily business procedures and AGS is slim to none. It's an extension of Amazon but for all intensive purposes AGS is their own business entity. But what else can you expect for Baldmans omega brain chat.
Oh my goodness. That's the point dick-head. He was saying that this game should have had a bigger budget.
@@makokenji4350 no reason to be a dick. If anyone is a "dick-head" it's you for immediately popping and being aggressive. And moreover AGS for all intensive purposes is their own company. They have their own funding, their own department heads. Amazon is the parent company. But functionally AGS might as well be any other game studio. It is related to Amazon essentially name only.
Agreed these streamers just saying this shit to drive engagement, Im surprised Josh sounds so bitter and negative in this, he's usually better composed. Amazon Games is probably given the littlest amount of money and expected to do the most with it. Not defending them or anything but people need to use their fucking heads instead of just listening to these types of videos and taking it as gospel.
Interface in BDO allows you not only to find resource locations (nodes) but also spawn points for each individual mob. It also shows the level range for players so they know if that spot is good for them to farm. So, just to be clear, New World didn't make a breakthrough with this feature.
As an Amazon employee I have been testing this game since alpha :). The company does supply keys to employees that sign up for the testing program ( Most don't know it exists). I'm not sure how they disperse them but I have gotten keys to this game, lost ark and most of the other amazon titles :). Don't trash amazon too hard! I will agree there are many things that need fixing AI, combat/animations, add more variety in items and their appearances. Great beta though let's see what they do with th feedback as that is the most important thing, how they take criticism
I really don’t understand why everyone is creaming their pants over new world. It’s average. Very average. It looks pretty, and their servers are relatively stable, but that’s it. No story, boring, clunky combat and an empty world.

Sometimes I feel like the reason why we haven’t had any good mmorpgs in such a long time is not because the devs or the games, but the players. Do the players really know what they want in an mmorpg? Or do they just want to complain about how flawed everything is nowadays? If the game has a cash shop, they say it’s pay to win. If the game is too grindy, they say it doesn’t respect people’s time. If a game is too hard, they say it’s not for everyone. If a game is too easy, they say it’s not challenging enough. If a game has too many story quests, they want the quests to be award winning. If a game has too few quests, they say it feels empty and doesn’t give people anything to do. If a game allows people to solo, they say it’s not a multiplayer game. If a game promotes team play, they say it’s forcing people to play in a specific way. If the game is lagging, they just assume it’s the server’s fault, not their own internet. Do they remember what the MMORPGs were like back in the days when the MMORPG genre first emerged? Do they remember how much fun they had as long as there was a world where they could play with other people in? There were no quests, only some fantasy worlds with background stories that might as well not exist, some monsters that people could grind for loot and XP. There were no endgame other than getting to the max level and getting the best weapons and armors, leveling alts, maxing out alts, leveling more alts. But didn’t we all have fun and weren’t we content with what we had at a certain point? So what changed? What do we really want? What matters more to us, the players, in an mmorpg? The game? Or the people? Again, what changed?
I completely agree. I have been saying the same thing for years. People think WoW sucks, but every time a new mmorpg comes out, everyone just wants it to be like WoW. Teleporting to dungeons suck apparently, but in a game where there is no teleporting to dungeons, people think it takes way to long to run there, and like you pointed out, it "doesn't respect people's time" and so on. This man really think Amazon is going full unlimited budget for this game lol 😅
I mean, Amazon Game Studios has a $500m a year budget. Even if only a 1/10 of that is going to NW that's still $50m a year which is more than any MMO has gotten afaik since NW has been in development since 2014 (even if they didn't have that high of a budget from the start, even just having it for a couple of years is insane). ESO and SWTOR had a rumoured $200m total.
Every one seems to fail to forget that this is the studio's first major game, too. It's like asking a highly touted college prospect to come in and dominate in the Major Leagues. Sure, it might happen, but you have to give them some time. The gaming community is so entitled it's insane.
Trade skills are done better than in any other game. That is my take.
I agree from what I’ve experienced so far
Faction games that allow them to effect the game always end up one sided. Eventually one will become dominant and it kills the game for everyone else. It's why I have currently been avoiding the game. I see a problem later with it...but who knows, maybe they will make it so it doesn't effect enough to cause damage. Time will tell. I foresee a push on this game anyways, if they release as is, I see it flopping.
Definitely has potential. I must have gotten lucky, I never had bad lag or frozen running animation. I like how they are patching daily
Yeah honestly, it has lots of potential, and Asmongold is a fool. Every game has bugs and glitches early on. It’d be best to focus on legitimate issues with the game. And walking bugs aren’t one of them.
Stopped watching his low IQ video at that point. It’s an unconstructive waste of time.

I haven't either, this is pretty harsh tbh
but then Amazon is a trillion dollar company....but then again they don't specialize in games and this is a brave attempt at actual graphics + their own engine.
@@welsh_steel2285 Yeah, I'm kind of more in that camp of thought. Like, sure they have endless money, but we don't know how much money & resources were given to these devs for this project. Silly that this is a factor for a company so large (and one that owns a game streaming website in Twitch), but it's worth noting.
@@welsh_steel2285 Just because they are a trillion dollar company it doesnt mean they will dump it all into this game.
One fact you have to understand as a company is that before you decide to get into a project you need to first evaluate the estimated profits the game will give back. So the cost of making the game and keeping the game live can never go over the profits.
It seems like people have a hard time grasping this concept when in fact its very simple, no company in the world is ever gonna create a game just to be nice to their customers and fans and willingly loose money on it.
I don't understand why everyone expects a new mmo to compete with games like wow and ffxiv that has been there for many years. Every games have issues, developers are here to fix them and it feels like the ones behind new world are fairly quick on it. If you enjoy the gameplay and the atmosphere, that's all that matter. Play it, report the problems and relish on fixes. Games don't have to compete with one another. They are here for our enjoyment and fun which can be found in this new game that has a lot of potential to grow.
I had no issues with stability at all, maybe if you were smart enough to avoid streamer servers... Ohh wait.
Considering this game looks pretty good and there being about 1k players per server, the servers ran pretty good.
1k players is nothing these days and yes its pretty but its not pretty in a high def beautiful way. graphics almost look indie

I personally love the game so far and will absolutely be playing when it's released
1) not sure what this "easy game" stuff is about. If you do solo quests against enemies at your level or above it isn't just a run through. I find that the lack of "tells" on base level enemy attack animations is part of the skill. You have to learn individual enemy attack patterns.
2) I literally cannot remember a popular game launch that did not have server issues during the initial beta release. I played on the first day after a long queue and didn't have any issues after that at all. Way more than I can say for many games.
3) I hate the uneducated "trillion dollar company" point from this guy. It's a studio that has an operating budget. They do not have access to all the money and talent in the world. If you expected it to be flawless that's on you imo. A game is made by people. People have different levels of talent and make different decisions regardless of a games budget.
me too.
@Soldagg welcome to all MMO's.
The “trillion dollar company” skit to me is more of a statement of “you have so many avenues fo be better, yet you still chose to be vanilla flavored”.
Would you want to be touted as “the world’s strongest man” but have problems gripping a baseball?
5 years and the additional fact that Amazon is a company that has to have MASSIVE servers for their website…
And yet they couldn’t overprepare on an MMO? What’s the worst that would happen, they have to shut down a dead server?
It’s not like they had to reinvent Dark Souls combat, or work from the ground up on movement, or couldn’t draw from other games on “having more traffic than expected”.
Amazon wants to be the “new kid on the block”, but they have no reason to start off with so many rookie mistakes after FIVE YEARS.
the content creator bromance between asmongold and JSH is really heartwarming. Do a collab already!
The pvp outplay ability is excellent imo.
one of amazon's major services is AWS which owns and rents out a massive amount of servers, wouldn't know that going off of NW server stability.
Even after putting over 100 hours into the beta, I never really had many issues. I got lag maybe 1 or two days that I played, but besides that the game ran perfectly fine.
lucky or lying. No 3rd option.
@@joshanonline Most likely lucky. Or Third option, I was having to much fun to notice the bugs.

ppl complaining that mobs in MMO's just stand there and have 2-3 attacks. what do you want? for every mob have unique attack patterns and animations and abilities so you have to 1v1 them for 3 minutes? with blocks, parries, backstabs and dodges? combat system might remind you of dark souls, but this is not dark souls. its an MMO, where mobs exist just so you can kill them for quests, exp or loot. playing this game after wow, where mobs just stand there and do auto-attack is so refreshing and enjoyable, but ppl still complain, and I can't understand it.
Gonna be honest..I've been following new world since it was announced and never once has it even looked remotely like a good mmo

It barely even is an MMO... its like a survival sandbox with some rpg elements and no house/world crafting 😳 but tons of item crafting 😴

it really has so much potential a lot of good things going just needs refining. They have the budget that's for sure
Well most of the problems he mentioned here have been fixed or atleast addressed in the open beta. Definitely looking like Amazon actually care about the game.
@@tounsiforlife2317 Still think that?
I feel like there's a problem where every aspect of this game screams "Cheap Early Access multiplayer game with crafting elements on Steam." that was flooding the market 6 or so years ago

i already refunded it, i know theres zero chance ill be feeling any urge to login to it in the future.
I think he's playing on NA servers from the UK. Might explain some of the issues he was having.
Imagine paying 40 bucks for a beta. I gotta go buy a WoW token and store mount now.
I'm gunna say though.... I played New world for over 100 hours in like.. a week. It's a pretty solid game with insane potential. PvE was solid, but easy if you know how to just block enemies attacks. You can glide through most shit. Open world PvP is really fun. Really gets your blood rushing. If you understand how their combat system works, with the animations and shit, you can really link together some cool combos. Good crafting system, skills. It's like Action packed 3D runescape.
My problem with the game is its made by amazon. Remember crucible? Yeah amazon abandoned that game in like less than a year. I wont be surprised amazon will abandon this one as soon as popularity dips a bit
@@IWantToStayAtYourHouse Crucible didn't even get its full release, while New World will get released on the 31st. Every mob in every mmo is just a script that follows a set pattern of attacks. It's not exclusive to New World. Mobs in WoW? Set pattern of attacks. Mobs in ESO? Set pattern of attacks. Mobs in FF14? Set pattern of attacks. Why is this utterly garbage in New World according to Josh and Asmon, but not in other mmo's?
Probably the best MMO on launch so far. Compared to all other MMO's on launch, this is just way better, and the potential is way higher. Can only imagine how dominant the game will be after an expansion or two, even in its current raw state, it blows out WoW Classic and FFXIV out of the water.
Hate it or love it, you cant deny that we needed a crafting focused MMO for awhile now.

Albion had a good concept but its nowhere as good as New World, even though it obviously inspired it somewhat.
I think I'll give this game a go.
Two nerd points though
1: Jeff Bezos doesn't work for Amazon, he's just a founder and shareholder.
1.5: Jeff Bezos going to space is a completely separate company called Blue Origin.
2: Lumberyard is no more, it got rewritten and made open source, it is now called Open 3D Engine. A former fork of Cryengine and the same engine used for Star Citizen.
One crash, one moment of lag in like 80 hours of beta. No run bug, reactive boars. I feel that the issues are very sporadic and specific to certain people. Surely they still be fixed, but this game felt very very good to me. Don't let the occasional cons/bugs turn you away Explorers!
One crash, One moment of lag for the US. In EU we had 4 hours maintenance every single day and lag detected 20 times a day every single damn day except the last 3-4 days of the beta!

Never saw running like that in the game in the 400 hours of play.
Combat is the life blood of any MMO, and it's the weakness of New World. If they put in some work on the combat, and make it skillful, and intelligent, they'll have a real winner with this game, because most everything else in the game is great.

I think Josh does a disservice to the game with his point of "a trillion dollar company". The games studio does not have that budget. They are not the trillion dollar enterprise. They are essentially a startup company with a couple of super small projects with a really rich investor.
An mmo is a “super small project”??? lol
@@cmoney163 Amazon games is super small and all their previous projects are really small. They go after, comparative to their previous work, a super ambitious headline MMORPG. I played for 100+ hours during closed beta and I didn't experience most of the issues mentioned in this video
So.. what do you want? Do you want every lv 3 boar you fight in this game to feel like a boss fight or like you're fighting some kind of super computer AI?
Enemies are just a set pattern of abilities that they throw at you? Ok.. so? How is that any different from 99% of Dark Souls? A game that is praised for it's combat? Do random enemies in FFXIV or WoW "react" when you raise your shield to block? Oh wait you can't even raise your shield to block in those games and even if you could, no they wouldn't and they don't.
I don't understand this completely unreasonable high standard you expect from every pve combat scenario. Especially while the combat is way more involved and engaging than any other mmo currently on the market.
That feel when the only real complaint in the video is about server performance and some minor bugs in a BETA. They had 200k peak concurrent players as well so server issues were expected and they've already identified and fixed problems that were causing instability. Being a trillion dollar company doesn't automatically fix every technical issue in the world, and even if they could just throw money at it to fix it (which wasn't the case here) the game still has to be financially viable so them being a trillion dollar company doesn't mean they can spend trillions on the game. I personally didn't really experience any server instability and to my knowledge almost all server instability issues have been resolved for the most part.
I also think he's underselling the combat a bit considering he's judging it at low level, with no abilities, against PvE mobs which are always boringly easy in every game. PvE is never hard, PvP is where combat shines and in this game the PvP combat is spectacular. Given the fact that those are his two main complaints, and one is has been fixed while the other is subjective and possibly fixed by him just leveling up and accessing more abilities, I don't think calling the game "slightly above average" is a justifiable rating. New World is easily one of the best MMOs to release in the last decade and it looks to have a very bright future. It's at least a 7-8 out of 10 right now and hopefully will continue to get better after launch.
Let's be real, this wasn't beta footage. This shit must've been footage he had from the alpha last year
So far the thing I like least about new world is the combat.
The simple fact that "pvp" quests are: grab letter and put it in another box, go here and sit in a bush for 1,5 minutes, kill 5 wolves; And not a single one of them requires any sort of pvp is the saddest part.
That and every quest you do takes forever because there's 30 minutes of running from city to quest obj in an empty world, the only distraction being gathering materials you run across on the way, but now your running time takes even longer because you're stopping every 5 steps.
If no one is trying to start a war with your settlement, you're not going to find many pvp'ers on your pvp quests. You're either being blatantly biased or you just don't like MMOs. The former is a fairly ignorant approach.
The UI is good BUT we need to be able to change placement of stuff on the screen, change the colors of compas etc because that sucks in the game..minimap should be good to have and be able to zoom in more on the "resours areas" etc. The UI is clean AF and good in many ways but some customization would be awesome
ESO doesn't have minimap (unless you use mod for it) and I actually think it is better that way. Less distraction and you cant see shit on minimaps anyway.
But ESO, or the elder scrolls games overall does have a minimap, though it's a very special variant. the compass like bar is considered a type of mini map since it shows you quest locations and so on.
Comparing to the preview the biggest issue i noticed is that they removed animation cancelling.
And the control response is quite bad.
They just need to add swimming before release, oh and option to run

New world has been a blast, the enemy variations, the location differences with different wildlife and structures. The towns and buildings look amazing and the combat has a skill ceiling for each weapon. You can also animation cancel.your attacks with an ability. idk if this video is from the first alpha but the beta has been great. The enemies also get more dangerous as you level up as a lower level mob (lvl 25) will be slower to attack where as a level (lvl 45) mob will have a move set like the player's depending on the weapon they're using.
