As a Critical Care Nurse and Paramedic, what little objective study on this device is wholly inconclusive. Plus my own anecdotal emergency scene experience is that as with everything else out there use this device with caution. Be prepared to use Foreign Body Airway Obstruction maneuvers.
Yeah there haven’t been much for studies. But 100’s of people have been saved by it. So while the evidence is anecdotal it’s compelling. And the thing I like best about it is that you can self rescue. The idea to look for something like came from me being at home eating steak by myself and wondering what I would do if I choked by myself. There are lots of videos of people using it solo and it working
Yea I agree with Rob Im all for field experience data vs scientific hypothesis,,,,I’m from the keys and we have the largest coral reef and biggest baddest mutton fish..pieces of bread used to plunge out bones in the throat for 100 years…I’d rather use this than bread lolol..thanks Rob.. thank you to @olddom as well data is important 100 percent thank you both

I’m a paramedic as well and my wife is a nurse who works in pediatrics at Loma Linda University. I trained with this tool on our EMS Mannequins and it seemed to work very well. We shoved all kinds of stuff in the airway as tight as we could get it and the de choker worked well enough for me to buy a few for home. So yeah
Better to be proficient in the skill not requiring gear.

This device remains unproven in any reliable study. As with any device you introduce into a human airway, it has potential to do as much harm as good. It may prove useful, but it cannot replace sound and proven airway techniques. Get your CPR certification and follow protocols for airway obstruction.
