EXCELENT VIDEO ! .I am new at this, and had a doubt about whether or not my water pump needed to be changed, I dissamble everything , because i had a water leak, that i had to find., and wich turnned out to come from two small holes on the water pump.. The fan was also turning very loose. (floppy) . . I also wanted to change the timing belt.. Your video solved all my doubts Now i know all the procedures. Thanks. God bless you !.
The spring fits between a detent in the right side of the waterpump and the hole at the top of the tensioner. I used Permatex #1 on both sides of the gasket.
I just had Euromotive of Fort Lauderdale replace the timing belt and accessory belts, water pump, idler pulley, new oil sensor and valve adjustments on my 528e. Price $830.00.
I am working on a BMW M20 motor, wich is slightly diferent fom this motor, only in the position of the Distributor wich in the the M20 is located on the driver side of the motor, and wich does not interfere with the precodure. , I asummed that i don't have to remove the rotor of the Distributor in this case., wich you did in you video.
Quick question...im a little nervous about installing the timing belt and making sure its correct. How did you line up the markings for the timing? After that, is it just replacing the timing belt, no more adjustment to the timing itself? Great vid BTW! Mine is a 82 528e. Thanks
Nice work, sir. ...'In the rain, to boot - bonus points! Say, did you have any difficulty in fitting the tensioner spring or bleeding the coolant; I hear that those are p.i.t.a. points - and I'm facing the job shortly.. THX
Thank you. The spring is a little tricky. Before removing it, note how it fits between the waterpump and tensioner so you can put it back in the same place. Bleeding the coolant is not hard, just run the engine and loosen the bolt over the thermostat until only water is coming out.
Man I really dig your video! although I have a small dilemma I have a 325 I 1990 trying to line up top dead center. having a bet of trouble. if u have any feedback that would be great
How do I install the spring that came with my waterpump? (BMW 528e 1988) When the waterpump came out it kind of fell out and I wondered what to do with it. The video is great except with this point. Also, since I installed the waterpump and it is leaking (before turning engine on), I suspect I didn't clean or seal enough. What kind of sealant do you recommend?
Nice video. I'm getting confused about timing belts vs timing chains. Some sources say my car has a timing chain while some say timing belt. Do you know about a 1984 533i?
Hi, Can you tell me if this applies to a 1985 BMW 535i (e28) ? I believe the 535i which has the 3.5 engine has a chain not a belt. Anyway I need to replace the water pump and was wondering if it is the same as what you've shown here ? I think it is easier on the 535i if I am not mistaken. Let me know please. Thank you.
I used a 1-1/4 inch on the fan which is the same as 32mm. It loosens to the right instead of the left like most bolts. Big pliers would probably work too. The bolt on the crank is 27mm.
Great job! I can see you have some jazzy taste in music and a steady camera hand!

Nice video. Next time remove the spark plugs. It makes turning the crank allot easier.

Amazing!!!! This is exactly what I needed! Time to do this to my e28! Thanks a million for this video!
Put a socket and ratchet on the crank bolt and turn the crank clockwise until both cam and crank timing marks are aligned
very good video, learn a lot.
You need a metric socket set, a couple of screwdrivers and pliers. The 325e has the same engine as the 528e.
Then put the belt on and do some revolutions with wrench, to make sure that all is correct.
Great information
@carabela125 I keep so busy with every thing I can't justify the editing time it would take. Especially with how much I LOVE to play!
Thank You for Sharing this GREAT info.....

Great Video, very helpful!
Thanks for the video! Brilliant!
@briansmobile1 Thanks! Lot's of outtakes :-)
@juceagso You're welcome!
That's correct.

In the description you left out 1988, how big of a difference is the 88 model?
The crank pulley comes out without using any special tools? Just take off the 13mm x 6 bolts slides right off?

If you could, how similar is this process to changing the timing belt in and Audi A4 2002 v6
how many miles your car has? anyway i like the video
Can I follow this guide for my '86 325e? It's great btw. What tools do I need?
Nice video. I'm getting confused about timing belts vs timing chains. Some sources say my car has a timing chain while some say timing belt. Do you know about a 1984 533i?
+Norman Clemens The 533 has a timing chain. It should not need replacing unless the whole engine is being rebuilt.
The Audi is a much bigger job and you will need some special tools.
There is a good video by EXOVCDS on the Audi.

baba mama Yes, the 535 has a chain so you don't have to change a belt. I have not replaced a 535 water pump, but it can't be that difficult.
carabela125 Thank you so much for your fast reply. Much appreciated.
Would this be a different procedure for the 88'?
What size wrench did you use to remove the fan/rotate the crank?
I used a 1-1/4 inch on the fan which is the same as 32mm. It loosens to the right instead of the left like most bolts. Big pliers would probably work too.
The bolt on the crank is 27mm.
What song?
Do i have to replace the belt t
Qhe replacing the water pump
Don't have to, but it is a good idea.
where did you buy the parts for this repair?
