I own an E30 (M20) and this video is amazing. Great work, very useful!!
Who needs a Bently manual when you have legends like this on UA-cam? Haha
Thanks!
The best DIY video for the e28 I've seen. Yes, i saw many and this by far has more details. Thank you. I'm tackling this job this weekend.
Damn man thank you! Much appreciated this took awhile to make.
Hey bro, what is the chisel tool you used to get the cam seal sprocket out. Mine is stuck on because previously someone had put some gasket sealant between the block and the sprocket. Appreciate some input please. Thank you
Its been awhile can you let me know timeline mark in the video where you see the chisel tool.
Brandt Cotherman rite about 11:56 and 12:00 mark. You tap the sprocket with a chisel sort of tool.
I used a crowbar for that portion.
Just saw this. It's very informative. Can't wait for your next video
This video came in clutch. I have been working on my car for a while now. I pulled the engine resealed everything and did a manual swap. I forgot where some things go and was slowly connecting the dots. I had your video saved for a while and decided to rewatch it and I'm glad I did. Thanks man.
Great to hear it helped you too!
Blocking the waterpump with a screwdriver in order to loosen the fan nut is brilliant, can't believe I never thought of that myself, I always tap the 32mm wrench on the nut with a rubber mallet, which can take 20 minutes or so, but it always breaks loose that way. This is much quicker though...
Ygg Drassil thank you! It took awhile to figure it all out
Left is the aico pump and right is the power steering....but never mind.....really good vid!!!
thanks for the greatly detailed video. It reall yhelped me get the belt replaced!
Perfectly made....if you consider even the ends of the coolant hoses get marked!!!! Good job!!!😃👍
U just literally saved my life lol I was putting the housing wrong haha
Where does that small hose go to from the thermostat hoses
very helpful. thank you for taking the time.
Thanks! Glad it helped you.
very helpful. Thank you!
Hey man, I've watched this video about 100 times learning as much as I can before tackling this job. Started this job yesterday and your video has been immensely helpful. I owe you lots of beer!
I'm re-watching to make sure I did everything ok and I'm struggling to get the camshaft seal housing off. I noticed that you didn't do the crankshaft seal or intermediary seal, but it looks pretty messy on your video. Any reason why you did all this work and decided not to change those two seals?
Richard Viglucci hey glad the video has helped a lot. I honestly can’t remember why I didn’t change the seals. But it would be a good thing to do.
@@Cotherman_Co Well I suppose you can make a sequel video on changing those crankcase seals. Thanks again for posting this video. The job has so far gone very quickly since I know what to expect as I take one bolt off at a time.
Cheers!
You could also lay the sensors for some time in cola
Good as new after a night!!!😃
I am going to assume that you used force and had to stretch the AC belt (passenger side compressor) onto the grooves. Even taking out all bolts and dangling the compressor, the AC belt will NOT comply. I am out of ideas... Surely there must be a way that doesn't stretch or damage the belt itself.
For the Alternator belt, it too was also too tight so I took the bolts off the water pulley in order to get the belt onto all three pulley grooves, then I reinstalled the waterpump pulley back onto the pump itself.
But this AC compressor belt is something else...
I need to get me this done 2 .....but it probably take s a day of work....even more of i also wanna change motor ook and filter air filter and sprak plugs...
How are you certain your belts have proper tension?
Hope you see this in time..
Do you have to bleed the air from the system?
If so, Do you use the top bolt on the housing?
Issac Prado sorry i don’t know. I no longer own this car and as you can see this video was made awhile ago. I would suggest finding a bmw e28 fb group
Where did you purchased the forged timing gears?
They were from a small BMW shop in my area that specializes in 80s bmw. You could check FB groups for BMW E28
have u had problems with the wind shield wipers?
no
Brandt Cotherman my 528e starts to accelerate at red lights when the engine gets hot
Oh dang I am no expert I would post your issue on the bmw e28 facebook group
Just checking, I have a m20 but doesn't the engine rotate counter clocks wise?
Please clean the block where the water pump goes
нормальное видео только что не помыл лобовину и шкивы
