You are so inventive. I also love that you don't go and distress all your nicely painted stuff. I HATE the Shabie Shick distressed look. It just looks like worn and old to me. Really nice stuff. You rock girl! ( I can say that I am an old lady LOL)

Random orbital sanders are a bad idea for wood. A pad sander or horizontal sander is the appropriate tool, since it goes in the direction of the grain

For a beginner, what would you advise when starting off regarding what to buy as there are so many things?
Thank you! I would start with something small. That way, you can get used to Using the brush-the feel of chalk paint and using your water mister. Once you get those three things down, Then I would move into a bigger piece. Maybe something free or inexpensive to Experiment on first. Hope that helps🙂

Thank you! I could’ve sanded it with the mouse sander but the orbital sander covers a little more area so I was just trying to cut down on time.

I love redesign with Prima transfers but I’m not sure you have them in Australia🤔 I know that Dixie Belle just came out with transfers and they are definitely available in Australia. I’ve just ordered one as they are new here in the US. You could check them out. Are you subscribed to Rachelle from the UA-cam channel Monnow Lane furniture? She’s in Australia and a new Content creator for Dixie Belle so she can direct you on exactly where to buy them.

There’s tons of retailers on Etsy! Or You can do a Google search for Redesign with Prima. There is a section for find a retailer near you on their site. I buy mine from Maika Daughters on Etsy but I’ve also bought them from other shops.
Did you coat the top with polyurethane?
What kind of brush are you using?
Here I’m using a Wooster brush from Home Depot but I’ve just discovered That Home Depot also sells Zibra brushes. They are only a few dollars more so now I’m switching over because I absolutely love them.
Ok I'm in love with this piece also. Everything about it hits the spot. Color, your wash, the transfer. I feel guilty for relaxing, I should get busy painting!!! (◍•ᴗ•◍)

Can you please answer a question that has been bothering me for a while now. On all the furniture painting videos they talk about the shellac or the Zinsser BIN with shellac. But what I don't understand and what the guy at Lowe's told me is that since shellac is oil based you're not supposed to use anything other than oil based paint over it???? So I am completely confused when everyone seems to be using water based paints and chalk paint over top of the shellac?
I just think it’s a lot of misinformation. I thought the same thing. Annie Sloan was the first chalk paint. Even in her direction it says to shellac if you Suspect bleed through. There’s many other chalk paint companies that recommend shellac because they don’t make their own primers. With all that being said I would never use an oil based sealer over my chalk paint. But under is just fine. Hope that helps. Also, I’ve heard that shellac is actually alcohol-based and not oil. I know bin is oil based so it’s a little confusing. I have used them both many times and I can definitely say they work great.

I buy most of my transfers from Maika Daughters on Etsy. They always have great deals and are really quick with shipping.
How much would you sell that piece for? I’ve found it difficult to sell unless I have a pair or two similar enough that they look like a pair once they are painted. Just wondering if you have the same issue? Of course, who can pass up free???!
Great question! These are great for a Younger girls room or a teenager. Even a single lady. I actually sell a lot of single night stands.
I usually sell my nightstands anywhere between 75 and 100. If it’s really plain And it was a free piece I will sell it for $50 but my average is usually sold for $75.
I think if I did a single nightstand more plainly or neutral it probably wouldn’t sell so easy. Because this is geared more towards a single person it will sell faster.

Can you add a wash on top of a spray painted top?
Sure! The amount of water you add and the Pressure you use to wipe off will determine your final results.

Figuring the cost of the transfers and all the work you put in, did you profit at all?
I did! I didn’t use much paint and I used the transfer on 2 other pieces. A sign and a desk. So the overall cost was pretty low.
