    Guitar nice here, just wish he played clean like Conte used to.!GREG ADAMS flugelhorn is just perfectly right on the sweet zone. Not a lot of folks know that Adams arranged most of the horn parts for TOP! He a gifted genius !

      I believe that the inspration for this solo comes from the song Europa by Gato Barbieri.

      Jim Coile soloing on "Two Years" with Ballin' Jack is perhaps better.

    Good lord, man - Steve Grove is insanely good. I guess now the guy is "Euge Groove" and does smooth jazz - I prefer this incarnation. This guy is mind blowing in this performance.

      I believe that part of the solo is inspired by the song Europa by Gato Barbieri

      @@beaconmike I can definetely hear some similarities between Europe by Gato Barbieri and Steve's solo here.

    Thinking of David Garibaldi today. May he fully recover and get back to bangin' those skins quick.

    Thats Russ McKinnon on Drums .TOP had Several Drummers Notibly David Garabaldi is Their Main Drummer. He with Francis Rocco Prestia Have a Super Magical Groove together . Other Drummers were Gaylord Birch Mestick All Very Talented Drummers However DG Owns his Throne with TOP his slick nuances dynamics articulation tempo Groove is his own. Many have try to emulate including yours truly. DG opening for Squib Cakes is a Must Learn. From that leads you into a world of Deep Pocket Groove This is Killer Russ Played this Balls to the Wall

    Thank you for posting this Gerald. I loved this line up it was the Tower of Power Renaissance.They're all great lineups, but this one was really special to me because they kicked their drug habits and came back with new material that I really liked.

    Aaahh...1989..my own personal summer of '69 so to speak..young, free, not yet "spoiled by the game" (as TOP so perfectly said it), on my own, scoring with chic's, and loving the vibrant music scene the world had to offer..it was the also the 1st time seeing TOP live (May 27, 1989 Oakland Stadium) after having discovered their East Bay sound ...loved this lineup and the Monster LP..later when Larry joined, they took it to another level..baddest cats in the land..

    Steve is really playing the 'Opus Magnifico Saxo' in this Solo. Wish his solo career could be this 'hot'!..............or even a single release on one of his CD's, but his audience for his career is very different than this smoking hot stuff.

    And this is what they looked like when I first started going to their shows... and when they were sitting in on Letterman now and then on Fridays. 😲

    I remember that show... during this period TOP mesmerized their audience. The combination of Milo ,Grillo, and Grove was truly a different direction for the band . Right for the time .

    Wishing on a Star by Rose Royce. Exquisite when gorgeous Gwen Dickie sang it. Utterly shite when part of an otherwise solid TOP tenor solo.

    • @beaconmike
      @beaconmike 2 роки тому

      I thought the tenor solo (the slow part) sounded much like Gato's Europa song.
