    Unfortunately, I have "airplane ear". My remedy: I take a Benadryl 30 minutes to an hour prior to departure. When I get to my seat, I use a nasal spray (2 sprays in each nostril). I make sure I have some good gum to chew on ascent and descent. And I make sure my ears are plugged (I just use ear phones so I can listen to music). It works like a charm, with no pain at all. Happy travels! 👋🏽

    I hate the old airplane ear. I can’t get excited about landing because as the plane descends, the air pressure starts to build up inside and it hurts so bad. Usually, if you yawn, chew gum or open your mouth really wide, your ears will pop and the air is released. The only problem with this is that it also hurts to do this because your ears pop lol

    I have Airplane ear. I have not flew in a few years due to this. But, this year for my Birthday I decided I wanted to travel. I came across 2 type of earplugs you can use while in flight. I purchased Flyfit earplugs and Earplane earplugs. I decided to use Flyfit for my going and coming back flight and I didn’t feel any ear pain or head pressure like I usually feel! I kept them in the whole flight 2 1/2 hours. They worked like a charm. I was so pleased with them. I have not yet used my Earplanes earplugs but I will write a review once I do. But I know for sure Flyfit works!
    I also took sudafed and benadryl a few days in a role leading up to the day of my flight and 1 hour before departure. Also I put headphones over my ears during the flight. And chewed gum. I hope this helps someone.

    None of that works for me. I have tried everything you said but every time on decent I get so much pain it feels like my head is about to explode. My last trip overseas I finally found something that works for me. I was using earplugs the type you squeeze to put in your ear and headphone that goes around the ear. After doing that I had no problem. I think these ear plugs should be given to everyone with a baby. Each flight I take I ALWAYS hear babies crying as the plan is descending and the poor baby can't tell anyone how much this hurts. Parents please plugs your babies ears.

      @@chakroitsolutions3878 No after using earplugs. I was so relieved with just earplugs. Before that I tried everything mentioned in this video, I also had my doubts about the earplugs at first but they were a god send. The people there almost had to force me back onto the plane when we stopped at Davao. I was in so much pain I wanted to stay at Davao. the 14hr return flight with 2 stops I had no problems at all with earplugs. I will never travel without them again. Another tip for if you feel motion sickness. Ask the stewardess for some lemon slices. I learned this on my flight about 10 years ago when I got sick. one of the stewardess gave my some and said to put them in my mouth and suck on them. I felt instantly better and 10min I didn't feel sick anymore. My last flight I started to feel sick about 1hr out from Cebu. I asked the stewardess for some lemon and she didn't know if they had some. Lucky the stewardess next to her knew they did and asked if I felt okay. She then explained to the first one why I was asking. I then realized not every stewardess knows about this but they should. The second stewardess gave me about 6 slices and showed the first stewardess the fridge in were they are kept. Remember this on your next flight.

    I’m 68 and it’s been some time since I’ve flown. My left ear always causes me problems on planes because it won’t pop open on the ascent in altitude as quickly as the right does. I had lots of tubes put in my left ear when I was much younger. I understand it looks like a mass of scar tissue. It can get fairly uncomfortable and is very loud when it finally opens.

    I suffer with severe ear pain like some of you here mentioned(head or ears going to explode types!). As the doc mentioned, Afrin helps big time.
    Another tip I wanted to mention if it helps anyone - as it helps me big time. Close your nostrils and try breathing out hard “through your ears”. What this does is build pressure and pops /opens up your blocked ear. Do it in small intervals just so you don’t add unwanted stress to yourself doing this. But this really works.

    • @deepas
      @deepas 11 місяців тому

      @@lakialael Also, please be prepared for the painful "pop" but it immediately releases the air pressure and you will feel the difference. Also, since you mentioned you feel like your ears are going to explode, I have the same problem. So please make sure you start your flight journey with Afrin nasal spray once you board your flight (honestly, if you are looking to save a few bucks, especially if you are not a frequent flyer, I have used a dollar tree equivalent and both equally well). This helps big time as a preventive measure. Before descent, if you still feel the pain, do the above breathing method.
      I would also recommend constantly swallowing your saliva (esp. when you feel like your ears are getting blocked). This also helps to release the air pressure build up.

    I find that alcohol really helps. But I don't get pain. Just deafness and a feeling of pressure. It soon sorts itself out once we reach cruising altitude. On descent, I can usually clear it just by swallowing. On the way up, I need a good genuine yawn to clear it.

    I have one sided aeroplane ear (on my right) wht i'd do is the The Valsalva Maneuver. Close your mouth, pinch your nostrils together, and blow softly. This method will equalize the pressure in your Eustachian tubes, but be careful not to blow too hard so you don't damage your eardrums ( info from internet) you might need to do it couple of times during flight. That worked for me hopefully it works on u toooo

    My left ear never went back to normal and I don't know what to do. I was in excruciating pain during landing for my last two flights. It hurt so much I started rocking and crying. People were giving me weird looks and it was so embarrassing. Nothing helped, none of the tactics that usually help did anything for my left ear. It just continued to feel like pure pain and torture. I don't think I ever want to fly again after that experience. I also had just started coming down with a cold right before I flew, so I was starting to become congested and I'm sure that added to the problem. What do I do now? My hear still hurts and it's clogged and it's been over 24 hours :( Help

    I've had trouble with this my whole life and finally went to an ENT who recommended Afrin nasal spray, which usually helps (not always; right now my ears are still blocked 12 hrs after a flight :( ). But the Valsalva maneuver has never worked for me. Is there anything I can do regularly at home to "exercise" my Eustachian tubes? Is it true that avoiding dairy products can help reduce inflammation in sinuses and ears?

    • @markyantamd5338
      @markyantamd5338  Рік тому +2

      I'm not sure you can do anything to "exercise" your Eustachian tube. Dairy is an allergen for a lot of people, so that might be a good thing to try to avoid. The Valsalva and Toynbee maneuvers are just helping your Eustachian tubes to work better, but they aren't intrinsically doing anything to "exercise" them. For some people, none of the things outlined work. At that point, further options are putting tubes into the eardrums or doing a Eustachian tube dilation, either in the office or under anaesthesia, to help prevent this pain.
