    One of my ear the ear canal is closed due to fibrosis and radiotherapy. I nearly deaf in that ear and I am due to have a BAHA fitted. My consultant said I am ok to fly despite this. Condition hence am going to try to do a 2 and a half hour flight from London to France. Will I feel pain in this ear and should I take the medication you recommended? Many thanks

    I don’t feel ear pain but I feel extremely bad at takeoff, those earplugs help but isn’t enough, using decongestant helps as well

    My left ear never went back to normal and I don't know what to do. I was in excruciating pain during landing for my last two flights. It hurt so much I started rocking and crying. People were giving me weird looks and it was so embarrassing. Nothing helped, none of the tactics that usually help did anything for my left ear. It just continued to feel like pure pain and torture. I don't think I ever want to fly again after that experience. I also had just started coming down with a cold right before I flew, so I was starting to become congested and I'm sure that added to the problem. What do I do now? My hear still hurts and it's clogged and it's been over 24 hours :( Help

    I have tried literally every single one of the remedies in this video, and none have ever worked for me. Every time I fly, my head feels like someone has jammed an ice pick into each ear. It is SO painful that I get delirious and can’t concentrate. I dread flying because of the intense searing pain. The last time I flew I couldn’t hear anything for several days and my inner ear didn’t stop hurting until ten days after landing. And it’s not just flying; I can’t even drive up into the mountains without severe ear pain.

    My ears are blocked from a plane ride, then i popped it or so i thought, and wore head phones in the car to listen to some music. Now my right ear feels clogged but my humming sounds the same in both ears. What do you think this is doc?

    Watched this video before flying yesterday. I have something going on where I have had bad ear pain, sore throat, and very swollen glands for the last 5 days. No nasal congestion at all. But my ears and throat feel sore and clogged. I was worried that it could be an ear infection. I have had bad ear pain with flying before to the point of tears. I had no choice but to take this flight. I was terrified. I did everything you said. An hour before the flight I sprayed Afrin into my nose. Then, I took Dayquil 30 minutes before the flight (sudafed agitates me too much). When I sat down on the plane I put in EarPlanes, I was nervous about when to take them out and back in, so I just left them in for the 2-hour flight. I used your nose hold and gentle blow technique when I started feeling slight pain and pressure on decent. It worked. I was so happy I followed your instructions. Thank you for posting this.

    I'm so scared. I always have problems with my ears and neck when flying, and this time I have a middle ear infection and dizziness as a consequence of the flu but must fly tomorrow. I hope these techniques help me and I don't end up deaf or with another ear issue. I'll update whether these helped, as there might be other people who must fly but have middle ear issues

Im a second year tourism student and we will need to travel more on planes i desperately hope these work for me. I hate being scared of something that makes me so happy😔

    I cannot find Afrin in Canada. Will Drixoral work ok? Also, does anyone have experience with the MACKS FlightGuard ear plugs? good reviews online so I grabbed a pair. I have severe airplane ear on descent, it brings me to tears every time on landing (unless descent is very slow) and I have pain and plugged ears for several hours to days after. I have a trip coming up and am so scared of the pain. I will update this comment of my success or lack thereof with everything I am trying out - Sudafed, nasal spray, Tylenol, Macks Flightguards.

    I’m 68 and it’s been some time since I’ve flown. My left ear always causes me problems on planes because it won’t pop open on the ascent in altitude as quickly as the right does. I had lots of tubes put in my left ear when I was much younger. I understand it looks like a mass of scar tissue. It can get fairly uncomfortable and is very loud when it finally opens. Glad I saw your presentation!

    I was a person who traveled constantly by plane and never had any kind of pain in my ears, until I once traveled with the flu and had barotrauma for 1 month, after that trip I promised not to travel by plane again, I am very afraid , I bought Macks and Flyfit brand earplugs but I don't dare to travel by plane again. even when I travel through the mountains every 100 meters of altitude when descending my ears pop and before that did not happen to me

    I find that alcohol really helps. But I don't get pain. Just deafness and a feeling of pressure. It soon sorts itself out once we reach cruising altitude. On descent, I can usually clear it just by swallowing. On the way up, I need a good genuine yawn to clear it.

    Dr. Manta, Would Balloon Sinuplasty procedure be a fix for this airplane ear issue, I was told that I had some blockage in my sinus passages that potentially would result in my suffering with this airplane ear issue. I have tried some of the methods you have discussed with no relief. Only time resolves my muffled hearing after flying.

    • @markyantamd5338

      A balloon sinuplasty would not help. That being said, there is now a procedure to dilate the Eustachian tube using similar or even the same balloons. It has been, in my own experience, about a 50/50 proposition, but really no downside to trying it

    What if you hear it the same? I can’t really differentiate which one I hear louder? It almost sounds the same to me 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ve been dealing with this pressure and low pitched ringing sensation for almost 2 months now right after being sick with a bad head cold and congestion for like 7 days ATLEAST and then one morning I woke up and noticed my left ear just felt like pressure and maybe fullness? And this ringing sensation but not high pitched… the fullness never got to where I couldn’t hear tho, I can actually hear out of my ear, probably just as good as my right honestly… I can play the lowest volumes possible on my headphones of somebody talking or whatever and still hear it in my left ear (affected ear) the same as my right? Although my right ear is may be slightly clearer tho, I can talk on the phone fine in my left ear and everything, like I said I can pick up very low sounds just as good as my right ear… I’ve been treated for middle ear fluid and have taken medicine and stuff, I’ve taken 2 different antibiotics because twice they thought I had a mild infection… I’ve never experienced serious symptoms of an ear infection tho, like fever, vertigo, discharge, swelling, pain in or around my ear, my eardrum is still intact no perforation… the only symptoms I’ve experienced is like I said, the irritation pressure ringing sensation and they come and go… like early on I would notice when the ringing died down or went away, my ear would be sensitive to certain sounds and it would feel like my eardrum would vibrate or flutter or something? I haven’t really noticed that anymore tho… it’s been more on a schedule now, like at night it seems to ease up but then when I wake up it will kind of amp up again… best way to describe it just feels like my ear is irritated and I’m hearing the sound from that? That pressure… I’ve been told I’m just full of fluid, that I have fluid in my right ear as well but more in my left and that’s the one that’s been bothering me, my right ear feels perfectly fine 🤷🏻‍♂️I do have an appointment with an ENT in a couple weeks, just was kind of wanting to get somebody’s opinion.

    • @wobekillin9991
      @wobekillin9991 Місяць тому

      @@vonklinkenhoffn1 well turns out I have mild low frequency hearing loss in my left ear. Found out Jan of 2023 after taking a thorough hearing test that it wasn’t fluid, wasn’t infection, none of that, nothing conducive. After being treated for fluid and infection for an entire month at a walk in clinic smh the way I was told these urgent care clinics and practitioners aren’t trained on ears and don’t really know what they’re looking for so it’s easy for them to misdiagnose and confuse hearing loss symptoms with in ear infections so they just prescribe you decongestants, z pak steroids and maybe antibiotics and send you on your way. I tell anybody from now on if you have ear issues go see an audiologist, stay away from clinics they don’t know shit bout ears and you have a very small window to get treated for hearing loss so go take a hearing test and let the audiologist decide cuz they can schedule an emergency ent visit since hearing loss is considered an emergency situation. But so I’m like over a year now since all of that and everything has mellowed a lot, symptoms have stabilized, haven’t dealt with pressure or ringing or any of that in a LONG TIME pretty much after I got off the high dose steroids is when my symptoms started getting better. I dealt with some weird things like noise sensitivity and some of the pressure and ringing sensations for a couple of months afterwards but eventually all of that mellowed out and I haven’t dealt with that in a while so.
