      Used to be poor man's food in the past. Now, it's expensive and not so affordable for the poor unless it's poor grade.

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 роки тому +5

      Hi Mary Heng, thank you for the comment 😀 Yes, the oil is still quite clear and not very cloudy. The oil can still be used to make stir-fry veggies, or used once more to deep-fry meats or fishes. Once the oil is cloudy, I would discard it. Hope it helps 😀

      @mgellerster. Thank you for sharing. I like to remove the head and the stomach when frying anchovies. I find it a bit bitter if fry them together with the head and stomach intact 😀😀

  • @MrAntonychong
    @MrAntonychong 3 роки тому +2

    Normally, I would pan fry it after washing without oil to remove moisture. And after few mins, I would add just enough oil to coat it and it will be sizzling. Equally good without using too much oil. Question is, how would I do that if I want to coat with the tempura floor this way?

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 роки тому

      Hi Antony Chong, thank you for sharing 😀 I've not tried this method before, so I'm unable to advice on how to incorporate the tapioca flour into the steps. However, it sounds like your method is already very solid, so the tapioca flour may not be necessary 😀 Hope it helps 😀

    You can just microwave the washed anchovies and they will be crispy without any flour or oil.

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit

      Hi ML Lim, thank you for the comment 😀 I've not tried it as we don't use a microwave at home 😀

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 роки тому +3

      Hi WINSTON TEOW, thank you for the comment 😀 I don't suggest other flours apart from tempura flour as other types of flour tends to make the anchovies hard and dense. Hope it helps 😀

    After washing,do you need to dry the anchovies or can I fry them straight way with flour.

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 роки тому

      Hi Sharon Majella. No need to dry it. With a bit of moisture is great as flour can stick better to the ikan biblis. Directly put the flour after wash and fry it. Thank you for the comment. Happy cooking 😀

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 роки тому

      Hi i_ing widjaj, thank you for the comment 😀 Yes, other tempura flours can be used as well. I wouldn't recommend other non-tempura flour as they tend to make the anchovies quite dense, but not crispy. Hope it helps 😀

    Biasa flour can or not ?

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Joyce Dass, thank you for the comment 😀 I don't recommend the normal (wheat/ all-purpose) flour as they tend to make the ikan bilis denser but not crisper. If Gogi tempura flour is not available, any tempura flour will do as well 😀 Happy cooking!

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 роки тому

      Hi Alain Oki, thank you for the suggestion 😀 It can be done if preferred, however, I wouldn't suggest it as the water is quite salty and may be full of impurities from the anchovies. Hope it helps 😀

    does the ikan bilis need to be dry first?

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Jeff Phoon. No need to dry it, coat it with tempura flour to absorb the moisture and fry it, coating the flour must be done right before putting the anchovies in the hot oil. I hope this helps. 😊👍
