Just one thing you may want to check. Often the reason the actuator goes bad is some increased force necessary to move the blend door. Can be due to heat warping the door/seals, dirt accumulation etc. When replacing the actuator, move the blend door manually and check for free operation, otherwise the new actuator may not last past the warranty period.
Thank you, Todd! You helped tremendously as I replaced this myself. I just want to pass along the helpfulness to people who may be as desperate as I was. I just replaced this part on my 2012 Mustang. It was this same one, in this position, a "Motorcraft YH-1801 Blend Door Actuator Motor" which I bought on Amazon. I was able to painstakingly remove all the screws with an "8mm Swivel Head Combination Socket Spanner Wrench Auto Car Repairing Tool," also found on Amazon. That bottom right screw brought me to the edge of insanity-- as it extended out I had to switch from the socket side to the spanner side. That screw only moved about three degrees at a time, but it did finally come out. Good luck, everybody!
Thanks for this video. My sons new car just started making this noise, and because of your video, and the secret glove box entry you illustrated, made access and identification quick and easy.
Depending on your model there could be 3 to 4 of those actuators under the dash. If you have duel climate control 4, since climate for both sides 3. The one that controls that air movement around the dash and open and closes the fresh air are the same part number. The one that controls heat to cool is different. The one directly behind the glove box is the Fresh Air, the one closest to the seats is the movement around dash, and one beside it closest to firewall is heat/cool.Screws are hard to get to, and helps to have flexible shaft tools.
you need to have a 8 millimeter swivel socket to get it off. the 8 millimeter socket has to be built into the swivel. if you use a regular swivel with an 8 millimeter it's too big.
Thanks for this! My 2011 started doing this after I had the battery undone for a few days doing my cobra jet. Hope its not a wiring issue(All I did was re-pin a harness connector) but I think its just a coincidence.

A small socket on a flex extension. And a ratcheting boxed end wrench.

Auto Zone and AMAZON have the part. Just ask or search of 2010 mustang blend door actuator. Or the year of your Mustang.
