- Indian classical sensations Kaushiki Chakraborty and Mahesh Kale entertained the music lovers with their marvellous acts during the event. First time ever - two classical performers from different musical gharanas came together to perform at this event. The duo’s beautiful musical chemistry reflected in their jugalbandi on Kanada Raja Pandharicha which took the crowd to a different musical journey and gave a shining end to the evening.
Sur Jyotsna Awards is an effort to appreciate and award the emerging talent from the music world who have a special streak in their music - that of connecting hearts. It’s also an endeavour to pass on the tradition of rich music of India to the younger generation.
Instituted by the Lokmat Media Group in memory of Late Smt. Jyotsna Darda, SJNMA’s mission is to identify and recognise talent in Music across India. Its main aim is to provide a national platform for aspiring but talented singers and classical musician across India, who show immense talent and potential to make a mark in the music world in the near future.
Winners are decided depending upon their talent; capacity and willingness to learn and also their ability to make it big in their chosen field from both classical and semi-classical, vocal and instrumental. Our Jury panel consists of maestros from different genres of music who come together and select the winners.

Mr. Mahesh Kale had said in an interview that a old lady who attended his show in US, touched his feet and said that she felt being in "Pandharpur chi Vaari" after he had sung an Abhang (she was unable to attend after moving to US). The reverberations that Maheshji creates with his mesmerizing voice accompanied by Kaushikiji's saath is just pure divine!!

Duets are rare in Indian Classical Music.. whilst they combined to bring the energy and create the mood, there was a sense of imbalance which kept swinging between the two, due to variations in the scale, which was inevitable. Despite that, it is a memorable performance!!

Kaushiki was singing one octave higher!
Which is the general practice in Indian classical music, unlike Western, where there are dedicated voices like Base, Baritone, Tenor and Alto, Contralto, Soprano for specific parts of a song.
Wonderful for a performer like Smt KAUSHIKI to gel so beautifully in this duet . Hats off to her.

My regrets that I do not understand the languages of this beautiful musical composition by these two great artists. I believe that it is in Raag Malkauns. And, with due respect to Mahesh Ji, Kaushiki ji's scale and singing level are far superior than any artist other than great Rashid Ali Khan in India today. Enjoyed it. May Allah bless you both! I believe when the devotees go in a big group towards Pandharinath temple in Pandharpur.
They all sing this abhang in a group praising lord Pandharinath. I believe Pandharinath is a form or awatar of Maha Vishnu.
This is quite prevalent in maharashtra. Hence is lyrics are in Marathi.
There is also a very good abhang sung by two sisters. It is called "Pandharicha Bhootha mothe " Raag Chandrakauns

Indian music is destined for greater heights with such young and talented musicians. Though I do not understand a word being from kerala, the music does not need any translation to enjoy it.
