- Are Speed Engineering longtube headers worth it? After 30k miles of daily use in my Chevrolet Silverado, I have gotten a pretty good insight on how good these products really are.
The whole exhaust are these headers, double x pipes, magnaflow mufflers on a true dual full 3 inch exhaust

Thanks for making a long term review. Exactly what I needed to know. Too often there are reviews suggesting a product that just came out of the box.
The reason this is a quality review is because he a used the shit out of them real word. Most reviews are when guys just put them on and run down the street. This is after time and road wear.

Appreciate you showing a shot of the headers after you put some miles on them! I was concerned with mine as they began to discolor very noticeable after less than 100 miles on them. Im perfectly fine with that I just didn't want rust! glad to see its some quality stainless and they will hold up!
bmxbang 7 mine began to develop the classic blue rainbow colors immediately, that's the giveaway that they're good stainless steel. All good stainless steel turns pretty colors when exposed to heat, you can test this with a kitchen knife on the stove lol

I just bought the eBay brand x regular steel long tubes + Y-pipe. And to my surprise the flanges are straight and everything fits (mostly) I went with aluminum dead-soft gaskets to prevent any leaks. I got the knock off of the knock off headers for $118

i put speed engineering long tube headers on my 2005 pontiac gto. great quality and awesome sound but when installing i had a hard time getting the last tube on because hit was hitting the steering rack. unfortunately i had to beat the pipe in a bit to fit it around the steering rack but like i said it sounds awesome.
When I installed performance plugs and wires, they touched a couple of tubes as well, but I wrapped those in header wrap and installed heat socks on the cables. Nothing has gone wrong

Ride Red Yes, trailing in the desert and in high mountain passes. plus I live in Mexico so roads are crap anyway. I may make a video on my light set up soon

Ok, I just Installed a set, these are cheap Chinese Headers hence the $250 ~ish price tag. The tubes are 200 series stainless but the flanges is not. They are chrome plated. I welded V Band Flanges onto mine without any issues, sand blasted them and coated them with Cerrakote because I knew with just a matter of time they will turn ugly. But your exhaust gasses don't know the difference between $700 set or these. I will have to see how mine will hold up with the Cerakote but if they wear out, I will upgrade. I wished Speed Engineering would have upgraded the flanges for actual 304 Stainless.
Nearly identical to Texas Speed for half the price. Just installed mine today on a 99 Camaro. Win win!
Did you have any issues with clearance near the steering shaft ?
@@tro3182 No, but I did have to disconnect it from the rack to install them and reconnect it.

I recently had my 2015 Sierra tuned with HP tuners for 87 octane and was blown away how much better the truck drives and the increase In power is great . Look forward to more videos !
A custom HP Tuners tune from a reputable shop/tuner is pretty much the best you can get. I have the DiabloSport intune hand held tuner with a custom 93 tune From a guy named Lewis Eaton (DiabLew). Its Good stuff, but not the very best. Its what I considered to be the best option since I live in Mexico and I don't trust local tuners lol
@@BadAssEngineering yes I had mine done by a reputable guy who has lots of experience with gm vehicles . He does high HP and big $$ turbo race cars at his shop .. sounds like your tuner is just as good as well .. I'm up in Canada where we don't have inspections or emission laws . My truck was built in silo Mexico. Looks beautiful down there where you are. Be happy you don't get snow in winter 😁

I have speed engineering headers and dual exhaust kit on my Tahoe. Love the combo, but I'm getting them welded. The clamps suck and even after market flange clamps still had exhaust leaks.
Yup, welding it is the way to go, that's why I had my own custom made

These header are good quality. I have a set on a LS swap in a 2nd gen camaro. I would by them again.

cbr1thou same here 2004 I was able to bend the bracket the lines are on slightly to clear

How have the spark plug wires held up without heat sleeves?? Im getting my headers this weekend and im curious if getting heat sleeves for the spark plug wires is even worth it
It's been years since I swapped the stock wires for MSDs and added heat sleeves.
Im sure It's worth it for the long run, I haven't had any issues after years, I don't know if heat sleeves fit the stock wires tho
quick. question i’m about to get some ebay headers for my 99 gt they go for 140 but if i order them do i only get one side of heads instead of both or what?
Check if the price is for the pair, research the seller/brand before buying

I know this is a year or more old, but has anyone used these on a 2002 silverado? Im about to pull the trigger. Also, does it have a place to put rear o2 sensors or do they have to be tuned out? I'm pretty sure I saw a spot to put the forward o2 sensors in. Thanks for any feedback or help
They should be fine, the headers only should come with the first o2 sensor thread. you may need to either put secondary o2 spacers or tune the CEL out. Dont forget to buy new gaskets and probably bolts.

@@camwalt.4197 No, because my engine was kind of newish when i installed mine. Search a video of how to remove rusted studs if youre going to install them yourself.

Jerry Rodriguez Mine is a 2WD, I don't know about fitment with the Transfer Case and front diff, shouldn't be a problem tho

You can just buy if from a vendor out of CA which SE will ship it to them then vendor will ship it to you, that’s what I did. Ask Glenn Auto but you gotta pay double shipping though

My stock 05 GMC 5.3 1500 4wd is a pig down low but up about 3500 it takes off. I have stock 4.10 gears but id like to know how to increase low end power. Its bone stock except for a Diablo tune.
You can try a set of headers and a custom tune to begin with, DiabLew makes good custom tunes you can upload via the Diablo tuner

If a cam and torque converter are in your budget definitely pull the trigger my 4.8 w stage 3 BTR cam and 2800 stall boss hogg torque converter eats
What did the shop charge u to install headers?
BRALEYS Hardwood Customs at the time, around $300 dollars for the headers and fabricating all the 3" exhaust. I bought the mufflers and x pipes beforehand.

Do you get any leaking ticking sounds next to walls with windows down?
Panagiotis F i got the ticking sounds since I removed the Cats from the stock exhaust years ago. The ticking sounds are the exhaust pulses, they sound like leaks but they're not. Same sound when I swapped to headers. No visible leaks (black soot around the tubing). In a nutshell the ticking sounds are normal, more so if you take into account the direct injections is louder than Port injection too.
@@BadAssEngineering yes i have the speed engineering 2 inch headers catless and full exhuast on my 17 camaro ss i have no leaks ive checked many times no soot only echoes of stuff thats close to the car around 1800 to 2500rpm then gone like a cement barricade or closely parked cars

Did you have you get heat proof coating for wires? ppl have been asking does burn wires I just bought the same headers. anyone can help answer
Not really on the stock wires, I didn't have any problems. Then I recently swapped my Spark Plugs and installed MSD Wires with heat socks, 2 of them were too close and I installed header wrap in those 2 tubes only.

Yea i got a 2014 5.3 4wd with the borla atak. i ordered this set up. and i got the bolts and gaskets. but yea i got stock sparks. but i heard some people asking if it burned any wires. should i get some socks any way? btw love the truck.
@@chevellewilson5257 Thanks, you shouldn't need the socks, and I dont think they would fit the stock wires. Only the last wire on the passenger side kind of touches the header, but I didn't have any issues

It literally sounds like lighting on shifts and thunder when getting on the gas. Especially in wooded areas or tunnels. Your vid helped big time and didnt have to pay 1800 for kooks. y pipe wasn't even included. thanks homie.
Well... long tube headers are for higher rpm power band correct? So what you say would make sense, no?
Gen 01 Lee They are, but I didn't think the change would be that noticeable. Low/Mid rpm torque at part throttle is excellent tho.
Long tube are better all the way around.

If you would of got the 1 3/4 headers you wouldn't of lost any low end torque.
If you retune after headers it would be better

Theres a bunch of headers on amazon that look exactly like these. Theyre all made in china same with speed engineering headers. Im wandering if theyre all the same just rebranded. Same specs and descriptions in the adds speed engineering uses the same wording in their ads aswell. Im referring to 1982-1992 camaro/firebird long tubes for ls swaps.

I mean at the end of the day its metal. Lol metal is metal. You should treat them for heat but at the end of the day its going to get wear. The treatment of ceramic coating is to prevent excessive heat and also rust

Depends on the part; there are some incredibly skillful 7 year-old Chinese kids that make good quality parts
