For YEARS I have been contemplating changing my business name to something "more creative", instead of my name. Now I can stop contemplating...haha LOVE this video
This has been probably the most valuable video I've ever seen on portfolio creation. I am doing probably seven out of 10 of those things wrong already haha. And I've been wondering why I can't get any clients! This is absolutely the best advice I've ever received. You definitely got an instant follow here! Thank you thank you thank you hopefully I can implement these this weekend and improve my site and ultimately my business!
Thank you so so much for making this video! I’ve been pretty back and forth with updating my portfolio on squarespace (really didnt know what was the best way to go about it) and you really helped answer a lot of the questions I had in mind!! I’m quite a recent subscriber and I’m so glad to have found your channel (you really deserve more recognition and I love your honesty a lot!) I’ve really gained so much insight re: the industry along with ways to grow as a designer and I’m so thankful for that! Looking forward to more of your videos! :)
Nr. 4 is the most valuable advice and a real pitfall. I guess many make their portfolios look sleek to show that they can bring value to the client, not knowing that they are doing a disservice to themselves.
Not a web designer specifically, but some of your tips really helps me as a graphic designer in general. Thank you for sharing, I hope you will keep making these useful videos!!
Thank you so much for the do's and don'ts! I am going to check my portfolio and definitely there are a lot to be improved! Thanks for sharing your experience and look forward to more great contents!
Thanks Edward, and I hope this helps for your internship. I agree this video can be helpful to many, considering doing a shorter version at some point soon. Good luck!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. As a student wanting to grow as a designer, I enjoy the straightforwardness. What platform did you use to create your site? Or what platform would you recommend? There's adobe portfolio, wix, square spaces, behance, webflow, figma...etc..
I used wordpress but because I have knowledge of web development, for people wanting to keep things simple and more straight forward, I do recommend squarespace, webflow or framer.
Question: I just started my portfolio and your advice is awesome. The part that stuck with me in this video is Keep it simple! So, I make surface patterns and am looking to purchase a fabric mock up bundle to showcase my patterns on my portfolio. My question is, am I overcomplicating things by doing this? Do companies want to see the patterns on products? Or should I just keep it really simple and post the patterns as a picture on my portfolio? Thank you
Mockups are always helpful to display your work! start first with your pattern work, even if you have sketches on the process (1 to 3 images) then add a section: examples of usage. Then add the mockups and see how it looks. The buyer would want to see how it looks on something, and this will help sell it better.
Fist of all thanks for sharing this! as a beginner or mediocre I find it really helpful to be reminded again and again how to be reminded the basics :)
Omg thank you so much for your video! I really love how simple and cohesive your tips are! I am a student and I didn’t know where to start and this really helped!
Loved the video! The videos I watched before about portfolio making were all about the design aspect and how to present your work, but yours really punches us to the reality and practicality of it all.
Hi Colina I hope my comment didn't sound like some form of invasion of privacy. Your comment speaks of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart, which prompted me to comment. I don't normally write in the comment section, but I think you deserve this plugin. If you don't mind can we be friends? Thank you God bless you….🌹🌹

Your videos are such a great help, I would love to hear your opinion on CV because we cant leave it superrr plain but also not too much aesthetic. I'm really confused on where is the sweet spot. Love from Brazil! :)
I can't believe still companies ask for CVs. But the sweet spot is to make readable and easy to find consume first. The best take is to make typographically nicely done - Swiss style. The problem is that designers try to design everything and it ends up becoming a mess. This is about information design. My CV is the simplest, but has a nice font choice and usage of subtle colors.
You're amazing!!! Thank you for making this vid and sharing your experience... Will definitely check mi portfolio to make some improvements, thank you so much again for the help!!! Saludos :)
Great video, I only disagree with the first one 😅😂 not everyone have a short "sexy" name, my name is a long compound name... terrible for a domain name. I decided to go with a fantasy name for my domain... Keep it up the good work!
oh yeah you are right, didnt consider long names, but maybe an abbreviation or a short version I would say, but hope it works for you and it is easier to remember!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA IVE LITERALLY PURCHASED A STUDIO DOMAIN LIKE 10 MINS BEFORE WATCHING YOUR VID AAAAAAAAAAAAA PAIN - Appreciate the tips, I'll redo that and will just go with my name instead now
How about a situation where you held a job for over 21 years! However, your work is very niche to the company. Basically, I personalized certificates and created forms, stationery, and business cards for the staff. I am very functional in my job, but there is very little variety in projects I've been involved.
Then would you say you are more a production designer? then you have to present yourself as production, you got to rely more on your CV and have a nice presentation website but your angle is not really about variety because you dont have.
Omg thank you so much for this video. I have been in doubt for the last 6 months about how to create my website and showcase of my work. It is just every day I'm surfing muzli websites, and there are such cool websites out there. With animations & transitions and all of that. I would love to have them on my website too, but to be honest me wanting to capture the attention of my future clients & people comes from the thought that maybe my works are not that cool to them, so my website can be a substitute.... but as you said, my portfolio is not another project. It does not have to be perfect.

Yes, unfortunately a lot of designers fail to see this.

Great video with a excellent clarity. Thanks.
nice ! very technical but nothing to difficult
Please make a step by step tutorial on how to start creating a portfolio and the best website to do so.
Thank you!!!!
Thankyou so much
How do you conceptualize a project to add to your portfolio? How can I know what to make when I haven’t done any client work before
you need to study first and learn many other things before, the projects you get from school can become part of your junior portfolio
Great!
This video deserves trending in graphic design
Thanks for the help.
Can you help me with your portfolio link.
Glad it helped! I removed my site since I only got spams and weird requests.
That is a gorgeous typeface you have there. What is it? "The Design the scenes"
Stratos is called my friend, its a wonderful type
Thanks a million

Hi im Jlee,a 1st year graphic design student and i wanna know the best tip for student graphic designers.

Yes, your website is not just another creative project, your website is just a project of conversion: converting your portfolio into an interview.

Where is your portfolio link?
Cant put links here to avoid spammers, you just need to dig a bit. Go on the design the scenes .com and in the books I wrote you will find my name.
Another mistake in many portfolio's is rating your skills. It is a NO NO!!
oh yeah that definitely is a NO, well spotted!
why
@@ziolp becaue you are highlighting your weakness. And quite frankly, it holds no relevance.
Let your work do the talking.
Excellent video! Thanks
