One STEP to make sidekicks work. And Xiao has a crazy Bruce Lee theory

  • Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
  • One simple step (literally) to make the rear leg turning side kick land on its target. Simple footwork for targeting a powerful kick, based on exploiting your opponent’s good defensive habits.
A useful striking technique for MMA, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and other striking martial arts.
Aaaaaand, Xiao goes on a wild tanget about the secret meaning of Bruce Lee’s classic film “Enter the Dragon”.

5:57 Joachim Meyer in his 1571 treatise categorized three types of fencers: Type 1 fencers attack without regard for openings and are generally overly aggressive. Type 2 fencers will wait for their opponent to make a mistake and attack at any opening they're given. They almost always lose to Type 3 fencers who /force/ their opponent to make mistakes or openings in their guard by using footwork and being aggressive without being suicidal. Interesting to see that kind of categorization going on that early.

Ramsey, I have told you before that I think you are a gifted orator. Your voice, your diction, your thoughtful presentations are simply excellent! I would love to see you do some videos similar to what Anthony Bourdain would do. Take us around the area of China where you live. Take us to some of your favorite restaurants. Introduce us to the local cuisine. Show us a bit of what life is like in your area, even for your family. Introduce us to some of your friends. China is such a mystery to so many people. I think your fans would love a few videos like that. Who knows, I believe you have the talent to be the next Anthony Bourdain!!!

    • @RamseyDewey
      @RamseyDewey  3 роки тому

I have no idea who Anthony Bourdain is. I don’t eat out at restaurants much. I spent my days training at a few different gyms. That’s where my friends are. You see them in my videos all the time. I spend most of my free time helping my kids with their homework. The videos you’re imagining would probably be radically different from the real “day in the life” videos I would make if I was being honest.

Imo if any kick works it's the sidekick. It's the most powerful or rather the easiest to generate most amount of power from and does not require spinning which may disorient you or overextention that would open you up. It's safer than more basic front kicks as you don't hit with your toes but with heel or sokuto (side foot) which are much denser and bigger bones obviously. If that kick would not require human to do a less natural motion of swinging leg to the side as opposed to more natural front I'd say I'd be a basic kick instead of a front kick.

Its true about the brathwaite comment. Writer micheal allen, who wrote the script for " enter the dragon" originally titled "blood and steel", did not get along with bruce lee. So he put characters like roper, played by john saxon, and brathwaite, in the story becuse he thought that lee, with his thick Cantonese accent would have trouble pronouncing them. Brue lee being bruce lee did a great job pronouncing them dispite this.

Pro tip you want them to square up so you don't kick a elbow. Couldn't use side kicks in my last fight because I side kicked someones elbow in sparring 2 weeks out. Elbows are harder than the soles of your feet. Still have ptsd if throwing side kicks.

Here's a question about some possible insight in some Kung Fu techniques, particularly the "Cannon Fist"/Shízìchuí posture ("the cross-shaped fist-hammer" (what ever it's called, it has the arms extremely far apart). What's the reason for this? Is it perhaps a training method to develop power, or is there an actual application behind this?
The other is the straight double punch, one you often see in so many movies. It's just two straight punches aimed at the same area. Any reason or situation to use this?
While not a Kung Fu practitioner, I do find it incredibly interesting

"Come back here Xao and let me squeeze your neck with my thighs!" rofl, completely lost it..... I remember my first encounter with BJJ, It was at my Tang Soo Do academy in New Jersey. Our teacher always liked to involve other training styles into our dojang in order to open us up to a little bit of everything. I was only 13 at the time, so when they laid us down into closed guard my first thought was, "this is gay as hell, i'm not gonna do this." I remember telling my dad about it, and how gay it was, and then having him chew me out. He was in the military in Chile and so BJJ was a big part of their combat training. At the time I didn't know any better because MMA wasn't nearly as main stream as it is now, so I thought Tang Soo Do was the be all and end all style at the time. Now one of my biggest regrets is that I took so long in taking up Muay Thai and BJJ. My biggest take away from it was never to allow myself to close my mind to something ever again. Great lesson learned, just learned a little bit later than i would have liked. One of the great things that came from Tang Soo Do though, was all my exposure to the Front, side and roundhouse kicks, all three of them are my go to kicks even to this day, and setting it up by stepping to the side has been my go to for years now, as long as they aren't dropping those elbows on it, it's a great way to catch the liver...... In the words of the great Terry Silver, "a man can't breath, he can't fight!" 😂.

Coach Ramsey out of context pt. 3:
"Its not gay, Xiao. Get back here and let me squeeze your neck with my thighs."
    "Stare at the feet."
"The dragon is an obvious phallic symbol."
"The phallic symbol... And you enter it..."
"Bruce Lee did die in the bed with some beautiful hong kong actress [...] While doing some entering with his dragon."
".... Xiao is dragged to the ground and dominated by sweaty muscular men..."

for the record, I really like grappling tips (though I haven't had the chance to watch your videos of late). I find it easier to react properly when I 'see with my hands'.
