After 4 Years of doing absolutely nothing, today i started muay thai. I was greatly inspirated by your videos. My body feels like its falling apart, but I feel great in my heart. Thank you a lot Mr Dewey
Ramsey! Thank you for another first rate video. I appreciate how well you cover the (necessary) perspective of a RESISTING OPPONENT, as understanding offense requires understanding defense (and vice versa). Pure respect.
Ramsey did you see that Hafthor Bjornsson will be boxing the ATG arm wrestler, Devon Larratt? To me this is a far more interesting matchup than two World's strongest men. Both men have qualities that the combat sports world has never seen.
@@RamseyDewey hey Ramsey, after watching your video I've been attempting the Tepee choke with pretty great success. This lead me thinking, do you think it's viable to do the Tepee choke with two arms out, instead of one arm in and one arm out?
That’s going to be very low percentage. Most people will pass your guard and flatten you pretty quickly, but it’s not impossible. Leg scissor chokes can happen- they’re just very hard to do.
This is why I love this channel. Much like Red Chuck's it's all about no nonsense stuff that works. Triangle choke kept me from being beat half to death by a dude about 40lbs heavier than me. It's was about the only option I had left. The guy was so strong. Bodybuilders man, most of em run outta gas fast but every once in awhile you'll get a live one. Lol

Hey, I really loved your sparring and training videos with some analysis or not. I'd love to see more of those if possible. This video is a really informative and fun too, it just reminded me of those! Keep on being awesome, coach.
Started using rubber guard a few weeks ago, and I feel it to be extremely comfortable, I thought it would have an awkward feeling to it or even pain, because everybody says how good flexibility you need to have to pull it off but I find it way easier than other techniques that are considered more basic, not only that but it also let me have good control from below which was one of my weakest points, I still can't pull off a gogoplata, but armbars, triangles and omoplatas are so easy from rubber guard PD: Some videos for strikers getting into grappling/mma would be nice, like I said I still struggle with some basic things Thanks for everything, greetings from 🇪🇸
Thanks for the video coach, especially going over the Polson, I'd seen it, but never really tried it. I'm gonna make it a personal goal to try and lock it in. I would also like to know if you can do a video on the different ways to lock an Omoplata. Whenever I attempt it, my regular training partner is able to roll out of it. I feel like I am controlling the pressure on the shoulder, but somehow, my opponents usually manage to roll out. I would love it if you can put in your two cents on the best ways to lock it, and to finish with it? Thanks as always for all of your insight, I love watching your videos, especially when I am looking to refine my technique.
Great video as always. Could you do a video about when to give up on a submission and start going for something else? I have a bad habit of just getting stuck on a sub attemp if I think I can get it, but in the end I just end up in a worse position because of it.
I remember when my friend *a boxer 145lbs 5years* and I a bjj prationer weighing 135lbs 2years had a sparring match in mma gloves. I had no take downs, covered up and came in quickly pulling guard and used to rubber guard to finish with a triangle this was the moment I realised bjj is a superpower if someone doesn't know it.
Once when telling my dad about a funny comeback I came up with, I said I created it. I just meant that I came up with it on my own and not that I was the first one every to say it. My dad pointed out how he too had done the same many years before I was ever born. lol
I'm curious to know that if I get kicked and protect it with my elbow it will break something between the elbow or shin (I sorry my English is bad hahaha🤣)
Who don't love the rubber guard or the lock down.sometime try out body lock from the guard then apply sleeper from the the front utilizing your head be careful with your training partner
What do you think about using the close guard to sit up, drive my hip into the other guy's hip to make him fall backward, and when he planted his arm to not fall back, i swing my leg right up on to his shoulder into the triangle or attack that planted arm with the kimura ?
It’s a great set up. I use it all the time. Any time you can unbalance the top guy with any kind of sweep attempt and get him to post on a hand, you have a triangle choke and/or Kimura set up.
@@RamseyDewey thanks, it's my favorite way of using the guard for submission. Never a fan of trying to sub someone while being on my back like how most BJJ schools taught
Your priorities from guard bottom should always be as follows: stand up, sweep, submission (in that order) A failed stand up attempt creates opportunities for a sweep, a failed sweep creates opportunities for a submission. A failed submission creates a scramble that creates opportunities to repeat the process.
Hello Ramsey. Today I do have a question for you, hope you can answer it even if not on video. I have been interested in taking up MMA classes, but due to Covid (and lack of cash) I have been postponing it, however I noticed that in my city, and nearby, there is no MMA gym. What I have in my city, however, are schools/gyms of other martial arts, such as Karate, Jujistsu, Boxing, etc... My question to you is, considering that there isn't a dedicated MMA gym around, could I take classes on 2-3 of those other martial arts and figure out how to combine them if I ever wish to step inside a cage? I honestly don't know how far I could go as an MMA fighter, considering I am already 28 years old, but I'd still like to give it a try and see how it would go.
I know you asked for the coach’s advice. But if I may offer my 2 cents. The early MMA practitioners likely came from a specific discipline anyways. They didn’t ‘learn MMA at an MMA gym’. So just start with whatever you have access to. What would be important is to spar with MMA rules, so you train in context. That would help you combine the different disciplines, or help you focus on certain techniques e.g. BJJ techniques which uses the gi might not be your no.1 priority. Or short range (compact) punches which are not used as often in MMA due to the longer ‘neutral distance’ to account for kicks.
@@ArianrhodTalon Any input is welcome, so thank you for your reply. And yes, I am aware early MMA fighters had to do with what they had, but in today's context you get better prepared to get into the cage if you learn from an MMA gym from the get go. However, I see both your and Ramsey's points, so yeah I guess I can make do by learning from different disciplines. I was thinking to go into BJJ and Karate (traditional instead of sport karate if available), with at least those 2 I would be able to cover most of the techniques needed (grappling, kicks, punches), and then with time we will see. As I said, being 28 I guess I'm coming a bit late, but I still wanna give it a try and see how well I could fare inside the cage. I feel like I have it in me, I just wanna find out for sure.
If your mobility is really that bad, you should see a physical therapist, because that’s a dangerous level of inflexibility that is going to seriously hamper your health and longevity. A triangle choke doesn’t take a lot of flexibility. However, I’m guessing you probably are flexible enough, but you’re not cutting a 90 degree angle like you should, so it seems like an impossible task.
Seriously, if you can't pull off a triangle, your body has a problem and you need a doctor. I think what you mean is your legs are too short for triangle chokes ?
You can see 100 year old film reels of Japanese judoka using rubber guard and 200 year old photographs of Chinese martial artists doing the same. There’s nothing new under the sun. Did I tell you about the time I invented the quarter Nelson?
Ramsey Dewey so are you saying that Eddie Bravo’s contribution was to apply names like the Dead Orchard to previously existing positions? You got me on Olympic Taekwondo vs eating insects for protein. I think you got me again! Well done, Sir!
Same reason you only see a small percentage of finishes come from ANY guard bottom position in the UFC: playing guard is what you do when you can’t stand up or get on top of the other guy. If you can’t do either of those things in an MMA fight, you’re losing the round.
"This submission is really cool! it probably has a funny name in Judo"- that's me everytime I discover a submission.
