  • Carbureted 5.7 L Volvo penta GS PWTR. Was getting intermittent fuel related issues, but after replacing the entire fuel system; carb, pump, pick up, filter, anti syphon valve it was apparent further exploration was needed. The fuel pump would get power then it wouldn’t, turned out it needed new diodes, and I replaced the relay housings and some burnt wires in the process. Good luck,

Great video.. I'm a mercruiser mechanic and just worked on a Volvo fuel pump problem up on Lake Winnepausake in NH. These Volvo Penta fuel pump set ups are quite different than the Mercruisers ( and GM vehicles ).

I'm Working on the same motor with the same intermittent pump issue with a brand new pump. Now I got some things to check tomorrow 👌 I appreciate it.

I did this repair last year and as far as I know he hasn’t had any issues since. Good luck.

Mercruiser uses the oil pump cut off. Volvo Penta does not.
Start circuit powers fuel pump until engine running. When release starter switch, and engine running, ......Alternator powers same Relay socket, and powers the fuel pump at that point, when all is working correctly.
