I'm American and I am VERY proud of Mary Lou Retton and Simone Biles and lots of other great gymnasts. But Nadia, for me, will always be the Queen of Gymnastics.
I can’t stand Simone biles. She is very overrated because of her tumbling. When it comes to gymnastics there is a lot more to it. Simone biles is not good when it comes to to required dance skills. She should have spent her time taking more ballet and working with her choreographer. Instead she tumbled which is how she got higher scores. Simone is not a team player and a very selfish gymnast. I hope she retires soon so gymnastics can get back to the sport it used to be. For those of you who don’t agree with me take some time and watch gymnastics from the late 1990’s. It’s a much better sport when the gymnasts perfect their whole routine. Biles often can’t properly land her tumbling passes because she is not good enough to perfect them. Olga Korbut is also a bit overrated. She has a huge chip on her shoulder and thinks Nadia beat her because of government coverup. She failed to acknowledge her poor performances.
@@terywetherlow7970 I enjoyed watching Olga, certainly. She did things on gymnastics apparatus that no one had done up to her time. But Nadia did even more unique and amazing things. They were both thrilling to watch.

Awww! I have always loved Nadia!😍❤️ I remember watching her for the very first time when she made her debut at that Olympics. I remember everyone was mesmerized and astonished at her athletic abilities, professionalism, her precision, and that cool calm demeanor that she exhibited throughout those Olympic Games. She was sheer perfection and rightfully deserved every gold medal she received.🏅 She became the world’s sweetheart and it was difficult not to support her and root for her through every step of her journey as she was so adorable. I was so happy when she defected here to the U.S. I was even happier that she and Bart married and went on to open their own training program. She was truly an amazing gymnast and I wish her and her family all the happiness in the world.😊❤️🥰
I got into gymnastics because of Nadia. I was 6 yo & already in dance classes when I saw her perform at the '76 Olympics. I went on to do gymnastics until I was in my early 20's. I saw her perform for a tour after the Olympics in the 90's...I was in awe. Even though I was well more advanced than what she was doing, I knew her age & it was great that she was still able to perform at that stage in her life. She was very elegant & graceful in her performances during that tour.
It's so good to see that Nadia is living a happy wonderful life now, I remember when she first defected back in the late 80s, and I thought her mannerisms were kind of off. Hearing what happened to her after she defected because of the guy who helped her, it makes sense. A happy and blessed life for you Nadia
As an American watching her perform, I wanted her to lose, but the Girl was just that good and was a perfect ten in several events!! I am glad she came here to the USA!!
Yes, it was, and that particular move was banned afterwards. Considers too extreme and dangerous. Olga Korbut changed the floor exercise back then that still reigns. She changed it from the more beautiful, classic style to one of cutesy moves and and completely different from the prior. Obviously, I prefer the older style. The Korbut style? I hope it goes back or into a new more classical style. I would love to see a gymnast bring it about! I dislike everyone doing that same cute style. It’s boring to me. I like the grace and beauty of the old style. Maybe some gymast(s) will come up with that again. Nadia was the best. I watched those Olympics in 1976 and remember everyone being so excited about and blown away by her. What a jewel she was, sparkling in spite of her serious demeanor. I’ll never forget her. It’s a shame her abuse didn’t get recognized back then!
I remember watching her in the 1976 olympics. She was just mind blowing. We all screamed when she got a perfect 10! I think it didn’t matter what country you were from, you all were routing for her.
Always respected the athletes from Eastern Europe as they were basically science projects. Glad she made out so well in her life. She is an amazing woman.
In person wow! How was that? I remember when the scoreboard would not show the right numbers and she looked so confused! Did you jump and scream too! She looked like such a tiny little fairy girl doing all of those moves and jumps and twists.
I remember Nadia she was such a dynamo performer as a gymnast. I remember when she was the first to get a perfect 10 score. Wonderful to see that her life has been rich and continues to be fulfilling.
Nadia will always be the gymnast that stands out for me. I watched her from her first competitions and also saw her achieve those ‘impossible’ 10s. I am truly happy that her life finally is the dream that she deserves. 😊
As a young teenager I had a crush on Nadia Comaneci. She was amazing to watch and seeing her perfect 10 scoring was even more impressive. She still looks great today. Bart Conner was a solid figure of the US representatives and carried himself well. They make a great couple and have done a lot of good in the world. God bless.
Ahhh yes I clearly remember those Olympic days, I was14yrs and had a big crush for Nadia. I loved her expression of dedication to the sport and how she went about ; this was captured on t.v. back then was still black and white not many had the colorful screen. I'm glad she is the Humble Human Being she is since a teenager. Now me 60yrs, I appreciate her even more and Thank GODCHRIST and HOLY SPIRIT for the Blessings Guidance Protection Nadia continues to receive, AMÉN PEACE.
Nadia developed such a fast audience that she became must-see TV...all eyes in the Olympics were glued to her! Nadia was the very best to ever compete, nearly flawless in all her performances!
I met a Romanian foreign exchange student a few years ago, and when I said Nadia commenicis name , his eyes lit up and he said that she is a national hero in Romania. She deserves it!
I’m disappointed that there are no snippets of actual footage of Nadia doing some of her most famous gymnastics routines. Nadia on the uneven parallel bars was a jaw dropper.
Actual footage is owned by NBC television (or whoever) Any use would lead to the creator of this video receiving a copywrite strike. 3 strikes and you lose your channel. You have to be very careful even using these "creative common" photo's. Many photos are also copywrite material.
I'm sure it is out there. If it isn't the owner of the video, they got a copyright problem. Small channels don't care if they make money playing Google ads on their video. This channel is legit and deserves whatever ad revenue it can generate. Maybe 5 or 6 dollars per 1000 views. That would be zero if they get a copyright strike. Do it twice more, and your channel is done
Thanks for sharing I saw that Olympics in 1976 words can't describe how much courage that child had. Delighted she went on to have a good life..pure gold That girl...a legend
So true, she inspired so many to join Gymnastics. When I was in it, it was just a fringe sport. We never had many spectators, and even relatives of mine asked me why I was wasting my time in gymnastics, since the “real” sports were baseball and football. Boy they were stupid, it helped me to be coordinated and in better shape than most, even up to now that I’m 78!!!
Absolutely true. I was in gymnastics but also ran all the time. I'm 70, and have now weathered a lot of storms in my life. Gymnastics was part of the developing of fitness and strength, and coordination.
I remember her performances like it was yesterday! Every girl wanted to be her! I did. My Dad and I always watched gymnastics competition. When she got her first TEN I cried for her cuz I knew she lived in a Commie country. My Dad made sure I understood that. Thanks for the memories Nadia AND Bart! We love you 😍
Nadia is an amazing athlete and human. I loved every moment of her performances. Thank you for telling her story. She had a tough time that displayed her unique courage. May God bless her with a long life and many happy memories.
I enjoyed this presentation on Nadia, very nicely done. I think she and Bart are great examples of Olympians who took the talent and achievements they had as young adults and really made a contribution to the world with it. I'm glad to see her still making contributions to gymnastics in a big way, because with all she went thru as a young adult, she must know what not to do, to keep young athletes from having damaged bodies and souls. Hopefully the gymnastics world will be a healthier place for young athletes thanks to the contributions of her and Bart.
I remember the judges had to explain the scoreboard could not register her score. Because the crowd threatened to riot believing they had scored her a 1. They said they would recalibrate the scoreboard for future events to properly reflect her score. Nadia was one of my heroes. But another hero showed at that Olympics. Most people have forgotten. A male gymnast. Shun Fujimoto. Fujimoto- San scored a 9.85 on the still rings. A high score. Bug deal, right. It's not a 10. Fujimoto San performed his entire routine with a broken femur! His.15 liss was because he did not land perfectly. 1976 had some amazing athletes. Teodora Ungereneau. Average score in competition9.85. Best friends with Nadia Comaneci. Who always scored higher. Leon Spinks Michael Spinks John Tate ( silver medal. 6 months as a boxer) Sugar Ray Leonard Lyudmila Turischeva. Russian and world champion. 36 yrs old Olga Korbut Mark Spitz 7 gold medals There were some great people there
I remember as a young girl, I watched Nadia, on the balance beam. I went outside to play, climbed into my grandpa's pickup bed, climbed up on the edge of the box, I balanced myself walking the box rim, dipping my feet and waving my arms around pretending I was a gymnast like Nadia. I'm 59 now, never took gymnastics, but have never forgot her, my inspiration!!
I have loved nadia comaneci since the first time i watched her performance. Thanks for your video i got updated about her and she's truly an admirable lady.
Her Coach changed Gymnastics too. He realized that girls "peaked" in their teens so they have to start younger. I am the same age as Nadia and LOVED how Olga and Nadia brought excitement to the sport!!! ❤️
Not anymore. Women’s gymnastics used to rely heavily on flexibility & moves that only very small women who were practically underweight could perform. Hence, the emphasis on very young girls as participants. Rules changed - I think you have to turn 16 by a certain date to qualify as a potential participant. Also, strength is now the most important ability to possess. That is why Simone Biles is so dominant and why she, and lots of women over 20, are still competing, even in the Olympics.
I was 16 in 1976 and an athlete so I was kinda in love with Nadia, lol, what she did was so breathtaking, I played hockey, baseball, not gymnastics but I appreciated the skill and dedication they take, I'll never forget her performance
Thank you for telling about a story of incredible talent, discipline, courage, the tragedy of fleeing a country and abuse by manager but also a final triumph of her life turning around for so much good, god give her love and infinite happiness to the greatest female gymnast of all times … a true role model for women of the world!!!🥳😍🙀😻👩🏼 very beautiful story
It is sad that you left out the high-bar flip that only a Godess had the courage to perform! It was so dangerous, it is now outlawed. Utter PERFECTION!!!
I remember seeing Nadia on tv when she first scored that perfect 10 and thought she looked like a sad withdrawn little girl. I knew nothing about her other than her gymnastics success. Not as cool as naming a child as someone stated above, but my wife bought home a beautiful but scared kitten from the shelter. She hid from us and wife says she is a real gymnast. Now, we have a happy house cat named Miss Nadia
She was a flat-chested little elf with iron legs when she earned those 10s. She did fill out well. Back in those days, Americans didn't root for the eastern block, but she was such a talented cutie that everyone loved her.

She became the world’s sweetheart and it was difficult not to support her and root for her through every step of her journey as she was so adorable.
"More advanced than Nadia Comaneci."
@@lizziesangi1602 Perhaps by the 1990's Nadia was down to a 9.75 or so due to being middle aged.
@@lizziesangi1602 Re-read what was written. She saw Nadia perform in the 90's. Twenty yrs or so after the Olympics.
She is one of a kind ... she is Admirable .... she is an amazing lady ...
It's so good to see that Nadia is living a happy wonderful life now, I remember when she first defected back in the late 80s, and I thought her mannerisms were kind of off. Hearing what happened to her after she defected because of the guy who helped her, it makes sense. A happy and blessed life for you Nadia
So thrilled Nadia’s life has become what she dreamed it could be-she so deserves happiness
As an American watching her perform, I wanted her to lose, but the Girl was just that good and was a perfect ten in several events!! I am glad she came here to the USA!!
THE GOAT OF GYMNASTICS ❤❤❤❤….Her focus performing was mesmerizing. I watched her make history as a 6yr old in the United States🙌🏿💯🥰
Thank you for this update into her life now. What a fantastic role model!
Not really. You have to ignore the dating of Ceaucescu and the eating disorders. More like a cautionary tale.
I will always remember Nadia Comaneci! She was awesome and made it look so easy!
I still remember her on the balance beam smiling behind her feet! From that point on I knew she was the best.
I think that was Olga Korbut?????
Nadia Was the best. No one compares to her.
I remember watching her in the 1976 olympics. She was just mind blowing. We all screamed when she got a perfect 10! I think it didn’t matter what country you were from, you all were routing for her.
Romanian born here! She is a great person and she changed gymnastics forever! Thanks Nadia!
She will always be the girl that changed the world of gymnastics. I was in love with her and still am .
Congratulations to Nadia. Here is hoping her life continues with health & happiness.
Always respected the athletes from Eastern Europe as they were basically science projects. Glad she made out so well in her life. She is an amazing woman.
I watched her compete in 76 in person and I was blown away by her ability...I was blessed to have watched her compete live what an amazing athlete.
Vow !
In person wow! How was that? I remember when the scoreboard would not show the right numbers and she looked so confused! Did you jump and scream too! She looked like such a tiny little fairy girl doing all of those moves and jumps and twists.
She's a legend and a wonderful human being, who was blessed with so much talent and made it into a positive experience.:-)
I was 10 years old and Nadia was the first person I ever viewed as awesome. I never forgot the feelings I had watching her in the 1976 Olympics.
13 myself. Bi-Centennial. Frampton Comes Alive! And, of course, Nadia!
Me too !! I wanted to be just like her !! it wasn’t to be lol
I remember Nadia she was such a dynamo performer as a gymnast. I remember when she was the first to get a perfect 10 score. Wonderful to see that her life has been rich and continues to be fulfilling.
It makes me so happy that her life has been so great. I admired her back then and still do!
Nadia will always be the gymnast that stands out for me. I watched her from her first competitions and also saw her achieve those ‘impossible’ 10s. I am truly happy that her life finally is the dream that she deserves. 😊
Loved her so much that I named one of my twins after her, 28 years ago.
So cool!!
As in Oklahoma I am so proud that she lives here. I bless her and her family. Keep safe.
Nadia developed such a fast audience that she became must-see TV...all eyes in the Olympics were glued to her! Nadia was the very best to ever compete, nearly flawless in all her performances!
I used to try to imitate Nadia when I was little. I looked up to her! She is so amazing!!!
My first Platonic Love …. In 76 I was 12 …. I absolutely adored her ❤
I met a Romanian foreign exchange student a few years ago, and when I said Nadia commenicis name , his eyes lit up and he said that she is a national hero in Romania. She deserves it!
I’m disappointed that there are no snippets of actual footage of Nadia doing some of her most famous gymnastics routines. Nadia on the uneven parallel bars was a jaw dropper.
I'm sure if you did a search on YT, there would be some.
@@believeinjesus8862a good suggestion for producer Viral Nader .
There is a video of her. I’ve seen it a few times on UA-cam. It’s there!
Thanks for sharing
I saw that Olympics in 1976 words can't describe how much courage that child had. Delighted she went on to have a good life..pure gold
That girl...a legend
So true, she inspired so many to join Gymnastics. When I was in it, it was just a fringe sport. We never had many spectators, and even relatives of mine asked me why I was wasting my time in gymnastics, since the “real” sports were baseball and football. Boy they were stupid, it helped me to be coordinated and in better shape than most, even up to now that I’m 78!!!
Absolutely true. I was in gymnastics but also ran all the time. I'm 70, and have now weathered a lot of storms in my life. Gymnastics was part of the developing of fitness and strength, and coordination.
She was and is a legend!
What is it that we knew all along??? I think it slipped by me!
Exactly. What was it...that we knew...all along? She was a world class gymnast and trained for it all her life. She and Bart are married.
For us " of a certain age" she will always be an icon we claim in a way.
I'll never forget her at the 76' Olympics!
Perfect 10's! It was a big deal, as the Olympics were such a big deal back then!
She was Programed and learned very well. It's amazing She was able to live a fulfilled life.
Leon Spinks
Michael Spinks
John Tate ( silver medal. 6 months as a boxer)
Sugar Ray Leonard
Lyudmila Turischeva. Russian and world champion. 36 yrs old
Olga Korbut
Mark Spitz 7 gold medals
There were some great people there
I remember as a young girl, I watched Nadia, on the balance beam.
I always loved watching her compete! Happy for her. 🇺🇸💖
As a Canadian I have always appreciated Nadia.
Her Coach changed Gymnastics too. He realized that girls "peaked" in their teens so they have to start younger. I am the same age as Nadia and LOVED how Olga and Nadia brought excitement to the sport!!! ❤️
Now Explain Simone Biles, Please??
Not anymore. Women’s gymnastics used to rely heavily on flexibility & moves that only very small women who were practically underweight could perform. Hence, the emphasis on very young girls as participants. Rules changed - I think you have to turn 16 by a certain date to qualify as a potential participant. Also, strength is now the most important ability to possess. That is why Simone Biles is so dominant and why she, and lots of women over 20, are still competing, even in the Olympics.
She and Dorothy Hamill were my two heroes growing up.
I was 16 in 1976 and an athlete so I was kinda in love with Nadia, lol, what she did was so breathtaking, I played hockey, baseball, not gymnastics but I appreciated the skill and dedication they take, I'll never forget her performance
Not only a wonderful athlete but also a most attractive woman
Thank you for telling about a story of incredible talent, discipline, courage, the tragedy of fleeing a country and abuse by manager but also a final triumph of her life turning around for so much good, god give her love and infinite happiness to the greatest female gymnast of all times … a true role model for women of the world!!!🥳😍🙀😻👩🏼 very beautiful story
and what was it We we're suppose to KNOW ALL ALONG?
😂😂😂😂😂😂right!
she was russian
@@bobbys4327 Romanian
She was a CIA plant in the eastern block.
MTF?
Fantastic! This is just Awesome!
I'm 54 and always recognized how Great she was!
I always wondered what happened to her. Good to know she is going well.
It is sad that you left out the high-bar flip that only a Godess had the courage to perform! It was so dangerous, it is now outlawed. Utter PERFECTION!!!
The Salto Comaneci
The Korbut Salto is illegal in gymnastics, but the Comaneci Salto is not. Neither have been used recently anyway...
And the hand-less back flip on the uneven bars!!!!
I remember seeing Nadia on tv when she first scored that perfect 10 and thought she looked like a sad withdrawn little girl. I knew nothing about her other than her gymnastics success. It's so nice to see that she grew up to be a strong, and very beautiful woman after overcoming such adversity.
Bart Conner really struck Gold there!
Nadia will always be the gold standard for gymnastics.
Nadia was the BEST GYMNAST OF ALL TIME. She was so perfect in that Olympics it is stunning to watch replays now. So pretty and gracious. So glad she has a great life now in America with Bart
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PERSON !
NADIA COMANECI IS NOT ONLY A TRUE LEGEND. NADIA COMANECI IS A TRUE GREATEST ATHLETE OF ALL TIME(GOAT), AS WELL!
That was a great “documentary” of Nadia. I, to this day remember her performance in the Olympics. Nadia is a class act through and through.
Thanks for this!!!
Yes, so what were we supposed to not know. I already knew all that!
I thought they were going to say she was a he
Once more I missed what I was supposed to know all along. I have to quit falling for these things
Not as cool as naming a child as someone stated above, but my wife bought home a beautiful but scared kitten from the shelter. She hid from us and wife says she is a real gymnast. Now, we have a happy house cat named Miss Nadia
She’s the best ever I was 16 when she blew the world away.
She was a flat-chested little elf with iron legs when she earned those 10s. She did fill out well. Back in those days, Americans didn't root for the eastern block, but she was such a talented cutie that everyone loved her.
You're probably testicle-free and fat. Disgusting!
Exactly. Well stated. Bravo.
She has nice apples now.
Nice piece about a nice person who deserves all her blessings. Thanks.
Nadia's always been a class act, and all while enduring some difficult situations. What an athlete, and what a woman.
I'm glad that she and Bart are still together, worked out. They both seem like very good people. It's nice to see people like that find each other and make each other happy.
did they have kids together? do hope that they're not into gymnatics....
@@kyletorres202 Yes, they have one son. I don't know his feelings towards gymnastics, though. :)
He's got two terrific parents, from what I can tell. Certainly excellent athletes!
I watched like the whole world did.she is the best gymnast ever ....
The best in the World . She was an unique gymnast phenomenon . I am proud of her . The Queen of the Gymnastics . ❤I love her !
Hello, how are you Gabriela?
I remember seeing her and the team work out when here in Tucson AZ. at the University of Arizona. Such muscles and talent.
Nadia and Olga were my idols. Along with Dawn Fraser And Shane Gould. Gymnastics and swimming my thing. 🇦🇺
Penney Cason wow!!! good for you ma'am,keep it up.....
Yes, gymnastics really exploded after Olga Korbut and the 1972 Olympics and I think Nadia benefited from having to beat her and Nelli Kim.
You know you’re great when a song is named after you
Total respect to this woman
What a beautiful bright shining star... I remember her well. Wonderful talent and always appeared to enjoy her sport.
I hope she lives happily ever after. 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️
I surely remember 1976 the year my daughter was born n I was glued to TV watching her outstanding performance n seeing this video of how her life has turned around esp married to Connors great for each other again I enjoyed this vlog 💯💯♥️♥️♥️
Hello, how are you doing?
Bella Karolli trained Nada & Mary Lou. The things that are demanded from these young people is CRAZY!!! PHYSICALLY IT'S HARD ON A GROWING BODY
