      Romanian, just like Italian has certain rules based on the old Latin language....C before i is pronounced chi as in "chee"se, Comane"chée", also like Gucci or Pucci in Italian...C before e is pronounced Cha as in "CHA"nge.....Karolyi is pronouced "Carol-EE."

Watching her as an adult now, is even more impressive, knowing so much more about gymnastics. So many have come along since her days, and there is no one that can even come close to her talent! You graced the world with beauty. Thank you for loving the sport, and your mom giving you something to do with all of your energy.
    You are such an inspiration to so many.

    I wanted to be a gymnast because of her. However, Im 6'6" and at my peak athletic condition was about 300 lbs. I knew being a gymnast was not for someone with my body type but I wanted to embody her champion spirit. I became a power lifter, American football player, at a time when women werent really "allowed" and a cheerleader. The cheerleader side still allowed me to tumble but I was also a base in a stunt team through college. I feel like I honored her spirit even though I knew I couldnt go very far in her sport. She still inspires me at 50.

      @arwenevenstar0761 5 місяців тому +12

      @@mustihanciorabai1363But the pronunciation was corrected before the gymnastics events in the 1976 Olympics had ended. We’ve known how to pronounce Nadia’s name for 47 years now - it’s not like she’s new to the world stage. She’s also one of the most famous and well-known gymnasts in history. Aside from all of that, if one is going to make a video about her, it’s shoddy work and very lazy not to make sure one pronounces her name correctly.

    As a 14-year old, I was inspired by Nadia Comaneci. I tried to write a letter and getting her address during the days of the cold war not easy - I even visited the Romanian embassy in London but they were no help. Eventually I got her address from the Romanian Olympic Federation, and wrote my letter. I sent it off for translation, but my pocket money did not cover the fee - the translation company kindly waived the fee and I finally sent my letter off (I remember I waffled about Zen Buddhism in the letter which was my interest at the time). I never got a reply, and to this day I wonder if she ever read it. But great video, a happy ending and so glad she escaped to freedom in the end.

      It is possible that your letter was never delivered to Nadia.
      All the letters we received from abroad were opened, checked and read. Everything we received from abroad was controlled, and then they asked us to be responsible for correspondence, for contacts with people...
      How do you envision your letter being delivered since it contains a religious focus. In a communist country, you go to jail for that!

    You know another thing that drives me crazy in these stories of Bart Conner and Nadia is the ones who feel they have to shred Barts gymnastics career to make Nadias look better. Yes, Bart is no Nadia yet he is The United States most accomplished male gymnast. He is a 2 time Olympic Gold medalist and he is the most accomplished American male gymnast, Bart Conner starred at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games as he led the U.S. to the team all-around gold medal and won a gold on the parallel bars. And he's the only one to have gold at every single level. On top of that, his Gym and his business career is extremely successful. He (and Nadia) have almost single handedly grown the ParaOlympic association as well.

    The voiceover is terrible, multiple words mispronounced, especially Nadia’s name! The video clips have nothing to do with what is being said, in addition to showing other random gymnasts. It’s like you read her Wikipedia page alongside a mash up of video clips.

    I remember her as a pure girl, a #10 gymnist. She should have kept her brunette look and not that fake blond look which would endear her more to her fans. She should also should not have ditched her beautiful country.
